I think so. Unless he has some exos going on somewhere. Isn't there normally a french exo at the end of the year?

I don't know, perhaps you mean that (http://www.mastersfrance.com).

Final Fling? Yep! Totally. Some interesting looks out tonight! I stayed til close... doesn't look like it because I live on campus in a residential college so it takes like 2 minutes to get home (so much more convenient than Sydney). It's a bit sad though because it's my last Stro Night... as we call it, the Uni Bar is called The Bistro, hence, the Stro.. I'm babbling. Anyway, my last night after 5 years. V sad. But fun. And it was way hot tonight!!! But my feet hurt so much dancing was done... Wow. I think i should eat something. Anyway, back to Richie!

Do you think it's weird that the two people up are the ones whose time zone is completely out for this? It's 2:40am... well.. 1:40 for you, and we're showing our love and devotion!

There are? See my friend prefers Gretchen because she doesn't have a cool name to fall back on. Her name is actually Jemima. And there's a children's television show character called Jemima here in Aus, so she cops some crap for it. I had to go back darker because the water here in the uni town I live in is very salty and chlorinated. So the blonde hair was getting to look quite unhealthy! But I really liked it because we are heading into summer here and it's helpful when I'm in the mood for a random colour. It's now a very dark brown, which I love... but I miss the blonde a little.

Are you naturally blonde?

No. I'm a brunette.. which shade though I have no idea, because I haven't had my natural hair colour since I was 11. I've been every colour under the sun since though. What sucks is that I have very pale features... sparse eyebrows and pale eyelashes so I have to have them seriously tinted all the time.. Nightmare.

Oooh where in California?

It is, I think New York is at it's best during the winter, summer is too humid, spring messes with allergies and fall is quite nice too but winter definitely takes the cake. The lights everywhere and the snow falling down, it's really beautiful.

 I love Gilmore Girls as well, the whole setting for the wedding with Jewish people is beautiful and all that but I dunno if I would want to convert to their religion and beliefs, I'm not a big religion person.

Yeah that was quite horrible, and he jumped in the library, where I have to go many times and it's kinda freaky now.

NY isn't that bad once you get used to it.I hated it the first time I visited but after a while you really see how amazing it is, and especially if you like in a good area like I live in the SoHo area, it's clean, not as loud as Times Square or most parts of Manhattan, plus I'm also close to everything good there is to see.

I loved NY.. I hated LA. I don't know why, but most Australians say that. It could be because I spent 2 weeks exploring NY and just 2 days in LA. I'm also theatre based, not film based, so I think I'd fit in better in NY. There's an attitude there that really speaks to me, and I just love being able to walk anywhere on the island for the day. That, and the shoes... haha!!

San Fran is gorgeous and just a great place to live, I've visited there many times during the summer, it's only about a 3 hour drive from Fresno(where I grew up). LA totally agree, it is one big mess, waaaaaaay worse than NY. San Diego best part is great restaurants, beaches and Disneyland :p

San Diego actually reminded me of Sydney... A lot. It just felt like we were at home for most of it, just wandering around the city. Very nice feel to it, and it looks a lot like Sydney.

Oooh that's good to know, so Sydney shouldn't be such a shock when I visit it one day :p

But I do agree, people in San Diego are also quite nicely, shockingly

aww - girls -LA is not that bad
if you avoid the traffic and the gangs
you just have to pick your spots
the beaches are great , and you can find something from every culture in the world here
( much like NYC)
but , I understand if as a theatre person , NY would be calling you
The theatre there is much better than in LA

USC has a great film school though - and FIDM is great for design /costumes etc for the movie industry

now - who do we want Richard to play tomorrow - looks like Isner / Gonzo have split sets

scmom
11-04-2009, 11:31 PM
PS - love San Diego too - people are great - as long as you don't try to surf on one of their prime surf spots
the surfers are pretty territorial
same can be said of the surfers in LA , though
and Disneyland is in Orange County - neither LA nor San Diego - about in the middle of the two

Gretchen.

LA isn't horrific but for some reason I just prefer NY over it  Maybe I'm really sick of the weather.

So it shall be Isner, I think it's winnable, Isner isn't that good outside the US and Gonzo wasn't playing at his best. Allez.

Is Gasquet's return up to snuff yet? Could be a tough match.

P.S. San Francisco is a great place to live indeed. LA is nice, if you like to drive, but SF has a better atmosphere. I'm not biased either, I've lived all over the place, and I visit LA every summer

Tough match today. But I would prefer Isner against Gonzo who can just dominate the match with his forehands.

Tough match today. But I would prefer Isner against Gonzo who can just dominate the match with his forehands.
According to the stats, the Gonzo/Isner match was damned close, Isner with a better 1st serve percentage, but Gonzo scoring more points on it, on the return advantages for Gonzo.

It is trivial, but Richard will have to serve well and try to get a grip on Isner's second serve. Unfortunately I am busy and can't watch. Maybe someone can record the match. That would be great. :)

There's an article in L'Equipe about him today, but it doesn't say anything:

His backhand is a beauty, but we're pretty much used to it. He has hit a lot of forehand winners, which is even better. But what I'm really impressed about is the fact that he hasn't hit a single forehand shank or a single loopy midcourt ball since I arrived (middle of the second set), I don't know if it was that way before.

So no one knows about Bercy?

simplet
11-05-2009, 07:29 PM
If he could make the semis here, he would end the year in the top 50, with a match against Federer. Not so bad (even better would be a victory), especially if we consider that he was 72 two weeks ago. With all his 0 pointers, he can only go up next year, especially after the AO.

Cloudygirl
11-05-2009, 07:31 PM
I hope he is playing next year :(

Would be great if he ends the year on a high. It actually benefits him not to be so high in the rankings at the moment. As you said apart from the AO he is defending practically nothing and if he can fill his points up with the smaller tournaments.

[QUOTE=Cloudygirl;9282580]I hope he is playing next year :( QUOTE]

I think everyone assumes that it would be ABSURD to reverse the original decision but yes he still has that hanging over his head. even MORE remarkable he played so well with that hanging over him in less than a week. Maybe he was inspired to play his cute little ass off just in case he doesn't see the tennis court for a while.

Cloudygirl

Do we know (didn't want to post this in GM because of all the Richard hating trolls) what the grounds for appeal are yet? My understanding was (but it's been a while since I read the rules so I could be wrong) that if it was anything other than procedural irregularities then the evidence stands and it is just the judgement that is reviewed. So it would be like they accept he didn't deliberately try to cheat (because that wasn't contested) but if it is procedural irregularities then it's like the first hearing never existed.

If you manage to get hold of a recording it is well worth watching. He was pulling off some wonderful shots in set 3 and I watched for a set and a bit and didn't see him shank a single forehand.

Oh wow. I wish I'd been able to stay up for this...!!! Sounds like it was an encouraging match all round. A match point down and he comes back. Awesome!!

That sounds gorgeous. I hope he can keep it up tomorrow. Did someone record it?

Ah, very good news. :yeah: When I saw him losing during my first break at school, I was worried all through calculus class. Chiudinelli should be a good match, let's hope the home crowd won't be too loud.

The article in L'Equipe:
Gasquet s’accroche

Thank you Fran and thanks everyone for the blow by blow match discussion, I was unable to watch it and you all kept me updated. I'm so glad that he won, Isner can be a very difficult opponent and once I saw that Richard had lost the first set, I really thought that would be it. I was wrong, thankfully. :yeah:

Interesting: the focus on clay! I wonder what this will mean for his game, becoming defensive or trying to win with attacking tennis on clay like in 2005? Back to the roots, Rich??? :D

edit: on court now, allez!

Richard is completely out of the match so far. He was just one break down and now he completely tanked his serve game. Almost like he does not want to be there. Hopefully it is just this set, but this looks very bad.

Something's wrong, trainer is out on the court, as well as tournament surervisor.
Richard's right wrist is hurt.

Argh, I went away for a few minutes and suddenly he'd lost about 4 games to lose the set.

Hope he is OK to continue. :awww: This would be just the icing on the cake after such a season (and we're not even through next week's happenings yet).

If it is his elbow, then why didn't he run for some shots in the first set or it affects his movement as well?

Maybe it hurts so bad that he can't concentrate on anything else?

But he doesn't seem to be going to retire yet.

The judgement+ this injury can explain his lack of intensity.
If he could chose he wouldnt be here I think. Tough situation for him.

I think it is his opponent who is full of desire and passion who psyched him out early in the match and Richard is now frozen.
Chiudi is playing well, no question, but he has inconsistent serve and if only Richard wanted this little more, he could be in most of his serve games.

Its painful seing him in that state losing to a journeyman like chiudinelli so better for me to retire before he'll do it or not.
No sense in playing such a level. Good luck richard for the finale judgement.

bye everyone here, its tough to be a richard gasquet believer.

Please Rich retire. If you don't want to fight, I forgive you, but don't allow yourself to be humiliated by this guy, who normally plays one good match a year.

Dini
11-06-2009, 07:00 PM
Chiudi plays one match a year because he's normally out with injuries. He nearly missed two years of play from 2007 to 2008 with injuries. Not to mention 2005 where he was injured as well. I've always thought he had more talent and results in him than his body allowed.

But yes Richie retire if it's hurting. This is quite painful to watch.

Yes, I think this as well, definitely. Marco plays extremely well tonight, much better than he did yesterday - he serves better as well. Richard completely blew his own service game after the missed opportunity to get back into the match in the first set, and since than he plays so poorly. Can't see an opportunity for him to turn things around atm.

I understand the judgement may be weighing on him mentally, but he is professional tennis player, he must be able to block it out, once he signed up for a tournament. This is such a contrast from his other match. The worst thing you can ever see on a tennis court is when one player simply not giving his best effort and this is what I am seeing right now. He may come up with his excuses, but I don't buy it. Injured or not this is extremely disappointing.. especially knowing this is potentially his last match of the year. He does not want to finish the year on this very sad note.

Because Gasquet is better than to give up because he's losing badly maybe? And I respect that a lot in players. I hate it when players quit because they're being outplayed.

It doesn't look as if he's limping out there to be honest.
