No, it's the Open d'Orleans next week ;))
You would know;)

I had pretty good hopes that Richard would at least make it a competetive much but alas...

Completely unsurprised. Still Richie brainfarting to Ferrer is better than Richie not playing.

Seriously though he so needs to sort his head (and his forehand) out against these players. Let me guess without watching the match or reading any match posts, his forehand was shit and his serve was conspicuously absent? (it always is against Ferrer).

How did his fitness look? He looked awful last time Ferrer beat him. Also was he playing 300 miles behind the baseline or was he at least trying to bring his own game to the match?

Dini
10-12-2009, 06:21 PM
His forehand was solid compared to his backhand. He must have made 20 or more UEs off the backhand. Ferrer kept going after the backhand and it did break down big time. It's a very sad day when that happens. :awww: But his volleys were good at least.

And now I know why Ferrer didn't lose; you didn't watch the match Tori. :sobbing: This is the time when you are supposed to jinx him. :p

This loss hurt because I was expecting better to be honest. Pics was hardly walking on water.

I was at work and they have it blocked so I can't even get on the atp site. ;)

I can even jinx pics by livescores so this is pretty annoying.

It's in his head. He has lost with pics before a point is played. Same as Nalbandian. Bet thats why his backhand was shit, you know he has no confidence when even the backhand is shocking. I wonder if that loss against Tsonga hurt him too after being up a set and being semi in control.

So how was his fitness and did he play a million miles behind the baseline.

I'm pretty cross with him but then I think at least he is on court.

YEP! YEP! YEP!

He tried to play aggresive which is a plus but he's knows he's in trouble when his FH is more consistnet than his BH (and the FH wasn't great). Can't tell about the fitness - the match didn't last that long for fitness to be a factor :o

Dini
10-12-2009, 06:46 PM
No actually today he wasn't standing miles behind the baseline. I thought he was aggressive but his backhand let him down - often going long; I also got the feeling he just wanted to end the points quickly probably because he thought the longer the rally the more his chances of winning it decrease. So a lot of errors. But Ferru went after his strength and it worked. I guess it's a match up problem he has against him. When he was charging the net he was mostly successful but you can't always do that especially when your first serve isn't going in. It's confidence as you say and unfortunately he's low on it at the moment.

Guess that means I won't be seeing him in Bercy then. Are the CAS completely re-hearing the matter rather than just going through the paperwork of an appeal. Hope that doesn't bugger up his other tournaments too

Also maybe this was why he was pretty off today. Mind not on the job again.

Dini
10-12-2009, 06:50 PM
I know. I wanted to kill Robbie Koneig... THese guys have no idea how hard he works, just because he is talented and his game isn't where they think it should be they assume it is because he's not working hard.

I thought it was a very disrespectful comment to make. :ras: Richie gets a lot of stick for being talented. But what if your head isn't as good as your talent but you still work damn hard?! Don't think Robbie thought of that. But he was quick to spit out the "talented but lazy" phrase.

God, Ferrer's not a good opponent for him, I think he has a bit of a block when he plays against him, Verdasco and Nadal! When will he get a break. I'm not usually into conspiracy theories but it's almost as if these tournaments want to get rid of him as quickly as possible whilst this cocaine nonsense is hanging over his head and he is getting bad draws early on. Although in reality the further you slip in the rankings, the tougher draw you get, it's going to be an uphill battle from now on but I think he seems hungrier for the sport than I have ever seen him.

I am starting to believe in this as well. Now with the news of the hearing being during Bercy and how he might not be able to even play, it just wreaks of them trying to set something up.Not only is he getting horrible draws: Nadal at US Open(I'm sorry but his ranking wasn't even THAT low at the time) and Ferrer in Shanghai, but now they are even scheduling hearings during the last tournament in front of the home crowd! What they couldn't wait a week until the LAST tournament for every player out of the top 8 is over?!? This is just ridiculous :o

Cloudygirl
10-12-2009, 08:46 PM
I don't think he will have to attend. i imagine it would just be a lawyer on his behalf because it is unlikely to be a hearing where he has to give evidence. But still it's a huge distraction and he is just going to be asked about it in every interview. i think the ATP might hate him.

Puschkin
10-13-2009, 05:54 AM
Also maybe this was why he was pretty off today. Mind not on the job again.
I totally agree. I m rather sure that he got the news a little earlier than L'Equipe. He looked tense and shaky from the start and left the court after the warm-up. After changeovers, he was always the first to get up, yes, he looked as if wanting to have this over soon. I did not think he was too far behind, in fact he played rather aggressively, hence the tons of errors, particularly on the BH side. There were games in which he made three (!) BH errors. Compared to Metz, he was less focused, but still played better. But when I read the news of the hearing, my first thought was. Aha, that is why.

As for the character of the hearing: I remember having read in August when the news about the appeal came up, that it is more an affair of reviewing the decision, not coming up with new evidence, though I am sure that richard'S lawyers will somehow bring up P's failed hair test. But in a way, I think Richard would add credibility if he showed up in person. Anyway, I can't see him play Bercy, even if he decides not to attend personally.

Cloudygirl

Any news on whether he is playing for the next 3 weeks. I hope he doesn't withdraw from tournaments pre appeal.

OK so he's in the St. Petersburg draw ( his half):

[1] YOUZHNY, Mikhail RUS - GOLUBEV, Andrey KAZ
ISTOMIN, Denis UZB - SCHUETTLER, Rainer GER
SAFIN, Marat RUS - GASQUET, Richard FRA
STARACE, Potito ITA - [5] ANDREEV, Igor RUS

[3] TROICKI, Viktor SRB - BECK, Karol SVK
[WC] VOVK, Stanislav RUS - PHAU, Bjorn GER
GRANOLLERS, Marcel ESP - [WC] KUZNETSOV, Andrey RUS
QUALIFIER - [6] KOROLEV, Evgeny RUS

Good luck Richard!!!

Davodus

Safin is like the only person in the draw I didn't want him to play :o But at least we know Marat can error his way out of a match pretty easily, even if Richard plays 10m behind the baseline and isnt aggressive.

Why did he choose St. Petersburg over Lyon again?

Why did he choose St. Petersburg over Lyon again?

He went to Lyon last year but lost to Darcis.

But I guess he is just trying to avoid the french media atm as much as possible.

But this draw :o

Puschkin
10-24-2009, 02:20 PM
Marat is not the player he once was anymore. So Ricahrd has a good chance, Andreev has not been great either recently, it is Youzhny who seems mots dangerous right now. The upper half of the draw is packed and the bottom is ridiculous, but draws are what they are. Allez, Richard.

Ok, never mind my question in my previous post. I just found out what "cold fish" means...an aloof, unemotional person. I actually don't think federer is one :), he cries when he wins a title especially if it's a major one, w/c is a natural reaction. Maybe he's just not that expressive and outspoken?...he's quiet, yeah... i don't know :) I actually can see me in him a bit, and him in richard a bit, character-wise :)...but then it's hard to say, I've never even met any of these guys in person, so...but then to each his own, I guess. :)

no matter what happens with gasquet it is rarely boring.
so gasquet is entertaining like a play in a theatre-drama, sex, scandal, dance, melodrama, self-doubt, highs and lows.

much of what fed does is like a robot. the few times he changed were to cry when he lost. definitely not entertaining more like irritating. a cold fish. no great reading there. no chekov or ibsen

Yeah but he played brilliantly.. so he lost a two set lead, it was close the whole way! And he held on for a killer match. I actually came away from that match really happy, because before the match John Alexander (bah!!) kept saying Gasquet is a wimp and gives up when challenged. He wasn't saying that at the end of the match....

Come to think of it, last years Aus Open had heaps of those long epics...

Well I was happy with his level of play too, but I watched the match from about 4 in the morning till almost 8 so it wasn't the best of times to take a loss like that :p It was just annoying that he again lost a match like that where he played amazing and still lost even though it was his to win.But yes he did show good fighting spirit in that match that proved a lot of people wrong about his willing to fight and how much he wants to win.

Somehow Richard jumped 12 places up the rankings to number 57.
I don't really know how, but I wont complain

I'm guessing his 0 pointer for last years Bercy has come off it was earlier last year and so he can count a 90 pointer from a 250 event instead.

I think so. Unless he has some exos going on somewhere. Isn't there normally a french exo at the end of the year?
