There aren't challengers either in the AO qualies week and AO first week, so I think he will go to Australia :)

Great season ending for Grigio, hope he can do a good preseason and start well 2012. He doesn't defend too much points in first months, has a good chance to keep climbing in the ranking

Had a great season with alot of promısıng sıgns for the future. Hopefully we will see continued improvement next year.

Yeah, this year was a sucess for Laurynas. Jumped over 200 places, from 405 to now provisionally 195.First Challenger title, and a near entrance to his first GS. He's now more stable from the FH side, although it's still needs to improve. Every part of his game vastly improved, including his character on the court. Next season could be a mix of him playing Challengers and ATP's, so good luck Grigio :yeah:

In first months of the year he has to defend few points (18 from Courmayer QF), hope he can take advanatge of this and can rise in the rankings.

Laurynas will play against Paul Hanley (34 years old australian well known by his perfomance in doubles, but without singles ranking) in Brisbane 1st round qualies. Then he would face Bobby Reynolds or John Millman, and in the final round his opponent could be Rycka :sadface:

Grigio - Hanley is the 4th match of the court 14, the first begins at 10 am local time (I think is 12 am GMT), good luck for him :)

Konstantin Kravchuk has 26 years and is 185 in the ranking. This year lost against Zemlja in 1st round of Doha qualy. Watched a few games in the first set, then I had to leave. Thought he would win :sadface:, anyway Kudryavtsev is a good player, this season he qualified fo AusOpen, and he had beaten 2nd seed Zemlja in 1st round. Obviously it would be better if Laurynas had win, but is a good signal he can give battle this kind of players.

In the second set Laurynas looked nothing like in the first set. He made a lot of UE, Kudryavtsev didn't even have to do anything... In the middle of the third set Laurynas "woke up" but it was a bit too late...

I thought exactly the same, last week he could have played 2nd seed in 2nd round (finally he faced Kudryavtsev who defeated Zemlja, and now is in the final), now he has to confront 2nd seed in 1st round :(

Grigio needs to be more consistent if he wants to keep rising, he has great matches and in others he appears to be a completely different player. Even it happens in the same match like you said against Kudryavtsev.

Good luck against Sijsling, dutchman is the favourite but victory it's not impossible for Laurynas

"Uladzimir and I understand each other very well on court, we both feel what anotherone is going to do. I think that this is our strength" - said Laurynas after winning his first doubles title in challenger tournament.

Lithuanian started Wolfsburg challenger with first round loss in singles. World number 203 L.Grigelis 3-6, 5-7 lost to the eventual champion 24 year old dutch Igor Sijsling.

"I think that I played a good match but unfortunately I lost. I had a chance in the first set when the result was 3-2 and I was serving but I didn't take advantage of it" - Laurynas said with a pity.

L.Grigelis and U.Ignatik were the best team in the doubles draw. In the final match 20 year old Lithuanian and 21 year old Belarusian, after an hour and a half fight, defeated the third seeded team of Pole Tomasz Bendarek and Frenchman Olivier Charroin.

"In final we played very well but also it was the most difficult match. Our opponents were very strong - in the doubles ranking T.Bendarek is world number 140 and O.Chairron is world number 99. It was really tough match" - said L.Grigelis.

Lithuanian got 80 ATP points and jumped from 592 possition to 372, which is his career high. U.Ignatikas raised from 236 place to 187.

"In the past I played not so many doubles matches, singles was always my priority. But now, since I succeeded here I will play more doubles matches. Sometimes it's fun to play in a team" - said Laurynas

L.Grigelis and U.Ignatik already played together several times and they are planing to play together again in tournament in Great Britain three weeks later. [This article was written before they got into the doubles draw in Cherbourg. IMO, tournament in great Britain is Bath Challenger]

"we know each other well and we are on good terms. Last summer we played together in some tournaments in USA, we both liked it so we arranged to play together in Germany. We also have some plans for the future tournaments" - said L.Grigelis about playing with U.Ignatik.

Together with 80 ATP points and 1900 euros L.Grigelis and U.Ignatik got an a bit unusual gift - each of them got a bottle of German bear.

"Two liters" - Laurynas was laughing about it.

So far Lithuanian haven't tried the bear. Right after the final tennis player left for the next challenger in France.

"1100 km road was waiting for me which I had to drive myself, so I had no time to celebrate. I hope that I'll have a good performance in France and then I'll taste that German bear." - said Laurynas.

Tennis player Laurynas Grigelis keeps his supporters happy. He, partnering Belarussian Uladzimir Ignatik, won the second consecutive doubles title in Challenger tour. Also, he became world number 272 in doubles and for the first time in his career he has a better doubles ranking then Ričardas Berankis. However, in the interview with lrytas.lt Laurynas assured that singles matches will continue being his priority.

The team of Lithuanian and Belarussian didn't expect to get in the doubles draw of ATP Challenger tour event "Challenger La Manche" in France. Illness of one of opponents gave the opportunity for L.Grigelis and U.Ignatik to compete together for the second week in a row.

"We accidently got in the draw and we won. We signed up for the tournament but we were 14th team on the list and only 13 teams got in. But one Frenchman got ill and he couldn't play neither singles nor doubles. So we took the place of his team in the doubles draw" - said Laurynas.

In the final match the team of 20-year-old Lithuanian and 21-year old Belarusian defeated 27-year-old German Dustin Brown and 30-year-old Brit Jonathan Marray, 4-6, 7-6(11-9), 10:0.

With victory in doubles draw L.Grigelis and U.Ignatik earned 90 ATP doubles ranking points each and 2,650 euros. Lithuanian player rose from 372 to 272 place in the world doubles ranking, which is ahead of another Lithuanian player World doubles number 347 Ričardas Berankis. U.Ignatik jumped from 187 to 168 place in the world doubles ranking.

Last week the team of Lithuanian and Belarussian won the Challenger tour tennis tournament "Volkswagen ATP Challenger" in Wolfsburg, Germany.

- You won the second title in a row - what is the secret of your success? - lrytas.lt asked Laurynas Grigelis.

- You could say that we were just lucky that we got into the tournament, that we were not supposed to play. We both serve well and receive well. We don't play "in the air" as well as real doubles players, we still need to improve that. However, I believe that the receiving and serving are very important elements in tennis.

- Did you expect that fortune will smile at you again?

- After we won the first round, we thought that we can go deep in the draw, because the first opponents were a very strong team. In the final match we lost the first set, even though we had a chance to win. We got gloomy but we didn't give up. We were fighting till the end and we won.

- You are not really successful in singles draws this year.

- I wouln't say that I'm not successful, in Germany I lost to the eventual champion. I France I lost the match which I could have won, in the second round I lost to Frenchman Kenny de Schepper, who is world number 164. I think that my game is improving. I need to trust myself and work hard.

- In your career you have one challenger tour singles title and two doubles titles. Don't you have an idea to focus on doubles?

- I'm a singles player, therefore I give priority to singles matches. And I don't think that two titles in doubles should change that. Now I know that I can be successful in doubles so I'll play them when I have an opportunity, but if I feel that I might not have enough energy for singles and doubles then I'll refuse to play doubles. Singles stays my priority.

- After winning the tournament in Germany you didn't have time to celebrate it, you hurried to France. How about your second title, have you celebrated it?

- We had some hours to celebrate our victory and then Uladzimir had to go home. So, we just drunk the bear that we got in Germany, that's it.

- What are your plans for the nearest future?

- I'll return home to Italy. There I'll rest for a few days and then start practising again. On saturday I'm going to Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina) to play one more challenger tournament. After that one I'll go to England. I'll play doubles with Uladzimir only in England because he couldn't go to Sarajevo, there I'll paly with Italian guy Marco Crugnola.

- The beginning of the season for Laurynas was full of highs and lows, why do you think this happened?

Probably he put too much pressure on himself, and failed to reach what he was expecting. But since Bergamo things are back in place. He played a good match and this is positive

- In what aspects do you think he improved comparing with 2011?

He's more aware of what he can do, and can handle situations better. He improved his shots too, he still can grow more with the drive, also he's physically more robust and more powerful.

- What do you expect from his season?

As he has been a huge rise last year when he won Aptos and keep winning matches I expect the same this year. He has to recover that consistence and keep it

- What does he need to make a quality jump?

It's hard to say. Some things arrive quickly others take more time. We hope he can reach Top 100 at the end of the year, but I think maintaining current ranking would be great too.

Good to see Laurynas and Crugnola get to the doubles quarter finals beating Beck and Marx 76(7) 67(2) 10-8. However, Brown and Marray prevailed in the quarter finals 63 62. Laurynas, let's start from clay and RG. How do you feel after Paris?

I'm good, the last tournament went better than we expected. I wasn't optimistic about the RG, you know what were my results on clay, I couldn't find my game on this surface. However, at the RG I played two nice matches. It's a pitty that the last one went not so well. The last opponent wasn't the strongest one, just I couldn't find and play my game. I couldn't relax, probably that's why my game had no success.

What's next?

Now I'm at home in Italy. I was planing to play the first challenger in Nottingham but we decided to stay one week at home and to practise here. The reason is that after this week a very long marathon of tournaments is waiting for me.

My plans: Nottingham 2 CH, Wimbledon; then I go to America and there: Winnetka CH, Newport ATP, Binghampton CH or Atlanta ATP, Los Angeles ATP or Lexington CH, Vancouver CH, Aptos CH or Toronto ATP. Later we'll see, it will depend on the results in these tournaments.

Are you looking forward to playing on grass?

I haven't played much on grass but most of those matches were quite good. I can say for sure that I like playing on grass better than on clay.

And the last question - who will win Euro 2012?

I'll cheer for the Netherlands!

Disappointing result but Weintraub is a lot higher in the rankings so it was a tough draw.
