Dimitrov def. Capkovic 6-3 6-0

The match started pretty even until 3-2* for Dimitrov when he pressed his opponent and broke. He held and then managed to serve out the set after going 15-30 on serve at *5-3. The second set was one way traffic. Dimitrov presented his usual powerful forehand and nice one-handed backhand, but he also showed the needed baseline retrieving which is the key to outplaying many opponents on clay. He was solid in defence and ran the balls down well, which is not typical for him. Capkovic on the other hand was very shaky and could not concentrate to finish points. His serve left him after getting broken in the first set. He made a lot of double faults and had huge trouble serving on the advantage part of court (he even had trouble tossing the ball well on that side). In the second set he gave up early and just forced his shots wide by taking chances too early in rallies. Overall a good victory for Dimitrov, but his opponent was really too erratic to be considered a real test.

Catatonia what do you think , Grigor win next match ?

catatonia
09-21-2009, 02:33 PM
I would love him to, but I really doubt it. He plays either Bubka or Hajek and the Czech is the big favorite for victory there. Hajek is very good on clay especially on Challenger level and he is coming off a title in Freudenstadt. Grigor on the other hand is far from his best on clay and he will have huge trouble against Hajek. If the opponent is Bubka (which I really doubt) things might be a bit different as the Ukrainian is also not very fluent on clay. In short - Grigor will be outsider against Hajek and favorite against Bubka and that sums it up well enough :)

Catatonia what do you think , Grigor win next match ?

Martijn, surprised to say, Vanek isn't so much out of form. He played really well against Serra in Szczecin; I'd say it was Serra who played an awesome match. Panfil must have been rubbish, probably celebrated the MD way too much :o

We will have no live score from Dolgo-Schukin, will we?

Pathetic that this one is on a outside court, it's about the best 1st round match in the draw...

Why don't they have live score for court 6? I know all the scores, except from Dolgo. Should have been finished already, except when it's a very long 3-setter.

There is nothing wrong with placing them on court 6, but the least they could do was to update the score, after the match.

He played an ok game. His service wasn't very good, but he had some nice returns and great groundstrokes. He could have given away a set, but took it in two. His motivation seemed big, but he lost his temper from time to another - when making a stupid UE ex.

Hajek def. Dimitrov 6-3 6-4

The Czech showed that he is a real clay court specialist with good defence and ball retrieving and some patient display. He moved his opponent well from side to side and waited for the error to come. Dimitrov spilled silly errors all over the court with his desire to finish points fast. He always went for too much and that brought the mistakes soon enough. Hajek started with a break and quickly went 3-0 up. Dimitrov got broken after missing an easy volley at 1*-4 and then managed to break back for 2-5, but then Hajek served the set out easily. The Czech kept himself in the second set until 2-2 when he once again got an easy break. Dimitrov had two break points at 2-4*, but missed them and that was it from him in this match.
