I'm really looking forward to Pico's next match. I hope I find a good quality live stream, since I adore both Pico and Tommy. I hate picking between my faves because I like Pico and Tommy almost equally (though I'd say Pico that tiniest bit more), so I'll be happy whoever wins this one. And whoever wins this match better go on and take the title.

This was a great idea Ferrero Forever about chatting. FF what have you been up to over weekend. I went out to dinner last night, lunch today and movies tomorrow. Going to see Coco Chanel movie.

The weather in Perth is really wintry. Rainy and cold.

Hiya Snoo how is New York.

Back from some jogging at the beach, weather was ugly but nice to run. I am terrible at this as I spent my entire life in the water, but still I like it :)

Hey everyone. My name's Mary, so that should make things a little easier for you all:)

And my weekend has been awful. I broke up with my boyfriend that I've liked for about 4 years, and we were only together a few days but I've been devastated. And I've got my ears totally blocked so I've had to cancel all my music lessons and stuff because I can't hear. Yeah not too happy.

Thanks for the livestream too Kai.

 Mary, well lets hope that Pico can win which will cheer you up a little bit.

My name is Angelique or Angie. And yes it is still raining in Perth. I love the sun and I totally don't get winter at all. Though my bulbs are loving the rain.

Hola a todos

My name is Corinne or Corina, I am from Switzerland. I have been supporting Mariano Zabaleta since 1999 and since Pico and Mariano are very close friends (they grew up in the same tennis club), it was clear I would discover Pico soon.

I first saw Juan live at RG in 2004, playing qualies and of course I liked him from first sight. I love that he is so passionate on the court, that he always gives his best and also that he is emotional :). And of course he has a very friendly character, is very often smiling at practice sessions and is always nice to his fans :) He really is worth supporting all the way :)

I am sure he will bring us lots of happy hours by following his career and supporting him:)

Love and vamos Pico! :)

07-23-2009, 09:03 PM
I am also very sad for Pico :( I would have liked him to reach the quarters. But anyway, it was a good match and I hope Ferru will win the tournament now.

I hope Juan wil have a nice rest now before going to the States. Vamos Pico:)

Caio_Brasil

Movie was awesome, it's a french one called "Welcome". Have any of you seen it? If not it's really good.

Sad that Pico couldn't make it, and the scoreline suggests a pretty close match. But that's tennis and another day will be Juan's one. Also it was to an ejoyable player such as David :yeah:

Ferrero Forever
07-24-2009, 12:07 AM
Ah thats ok, Ferrer's a quality player, so its to be somewhat expected. I'm glad you enjoyed your movie Caio. Welcome and thanks for your messages Corina and Michele. Corina, Mariano was awesome wasn't he (so hot!)

Aquarianbabe

Thank goodness it's Friday :) and to make it a lot better I took the day off work.

Caio I love French movies so I will keep my eye out for it.

I don't mind Pico losing to Ferru or Honey Badger as he is referred to on another forum I post on. As long as it wasn't Almagro as he is still dead to me. My fav players are Willy Canas (another player who is always smiling and seems really friendly), Pico, Gonzo and host of other players.

Well I thought I had a date tomorrow but it fell through as both of us are busy and couldn't get our shit together.

Ferrero Forever
07-24-2009, 05:58 AM
Honey badger? I really wonder whats behind that.

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Canas, I don't mind the guy, but I don't like him either. Gonzo is awesome:)

And at least you'll have your date another day Angie:)

Mariano still plays, he is playing challengers. Sadly I missed him at RG th is year (he played qualies). Yes, he is hot, but also a great and very special person. No wonder Pico adores him :)

FF, I like the players you support btw. It's always nice to see Chela fans, as they are not very many of them here :)

Honey badger? poor ferru, he is so cute, doesn't deserve it

Ferrero Forever
07-24-2009, 09:14 PM
I always found Chela to be awesome, even though he hasn't done too much lately. I remember the first time I saw him play it was like 42 degrees on an outside court, and after the whole Hewitt spitting incident at an earlier Aus Open I was so scared to ask him for an autograph. But he was so nice despite the intense heat. And as much as I can't stand spitting, it is just something his does in any match, so I don't believe it was directed at Hewitt at all.

Honey badger is meant to be endearing as he is her fav player. I think it is more to do with his hair colouring.

I had a feeling that might of been the case.. let's just hope he doesn't draw a Federer in round 1 and be stuck on a court we can't go to!

In hindsight it would have been extra special at Camp Nou if I'd done the tour. The megastore was awesome and seeing the ground from the outside was cool, but I SHOULD have gone in. I'll keep regretting it until I get the chance to go back :(

Well look on the positive side, at least it gives you an excuse to go back (not that you'd one).

And yeah, I'd be so pissed off if he draws Federer or Nadal in the first round. I've got Hisense tickets (I'm so not used to typing that name, its still Vodafone in my mind), so he just can't be on Rod Laver Arena. Or he can't be playing at the same time as Ferrero. Otherwise I'll be at his matches:)

Happy New Year everyone, I hope everyone had a good time celebrating with family and friends and yeah tennis is back on my tv.

I went away for eight days with friends and had such a great time, stocked up on my wine and brought myself a lovely pendant.

Mary you must invest in Foxtel.

I know I must! Its a bit too pricey right now though, so maybe into the future. I don't get to watch much tennis on TV at this time of year though...coz I get to go live.

WOO!!! Can't wait until it all begins next Wednesday (i go to Kooyong, and then the Aus Open the week after)

Mia! Hi! I didn't know you liked Pico :D I met him at AO last year and he was so friendly and polite and I got a lovely photo with him where he was pretty much hugging me (shame about the bad lighting. I really need a new photo this year). I'm relatively new to being a big Pico fan although I've liked him for a while.

Hi PP, :D. Is 'bad lighting' you being modest? or was it just really chronic? But WOW a hug, niiiiiice. Gotta be lush to have those hands on ya, (I have a teeny tiny thing about hands, and his are :hearts:). Hope you get to hug him this year, and in better lighting ;). Seeing people play live changed my opinion on a lot of people (Tomas, Fer etc), i wasn't expecting it tbh. Until Paris, I had a love/hate relationship wit Pico, cos he annoyed me cos he kept beating Marat et Jim:lol: but he's firmly won me over now. And it certainly helps that he is a total cutie patootie

Birte, I am not complaining about the picture, I really love it for the fact that he's kind of hugging me and it's really sweet :hearts: ... I just don't like the yellowness of the lighting because of the sun that I couldn't get rid of no matter how hard I tried. The only way I can make the photo look normal is to make it black and white which annoys me a little - but it's still an lovely photo ;)

Ouch 0 degrees is awful. I went to a place an hour from where I live in Melbourne, and it was 4 degrees when I was walking around the streets, and that was far too cold for my liking and I didn't stop complaining. But other than that I'm surviving winter well enough. And yeah I was hoping Argentina would win it, and well Maradona is coaching them and he's awesome:) I guess I'm hoping that Spain wins it now, but I saw one really hot guy from Uruguay on the ads, so I hope they do alright too haha. [Anitaa I wanted to practice my translating so I did this but if you want me to delede it or change anything I definitely will.]

A few days ago during the Valencia tournament, we had the chance to chat with Juan Mónaco and we asked him the following:

ETQNV – Champion in Dusseldorf, finalist in Santiago, semis in Acapulco, Buenos Aires and for the first time in an Open 1000 in Shanghai… How would you evaluate 2010? Would you say that you've achieved the goals that you set out for yourself at the beginning of the year?

JM – I think the assessment for now is good, there are still two more tournaments left and the goal at the beginning of the year was to finish in the top 20. So now I'm 26th, I have these two very important tournaments left. And considering that I was injured for two and a half months and I didn't get to play all the tournaments on the schedule, I think it was a good year. But yeah, at the beginning of the year the goal was to reach the top 20 so I have two tournaments left, I'm going to try to get there.

ETQNV – Many people say there's a “current crisis” in Argentine tennis. What do you think about that?

JM – It coud be. I don't know if it's a crisis, maybe recent years were too good. I don't think it's a total crisis, I mean, there are still players, there's Nalbandian, Del Potro couldn't play much this year. But I think there's an important new batch coming up, very good, like the kid who won Roland Garros Juniors, Velotti, and another boy, Argüello, Guido Pella, Delbonis. They are young players under 20 who I believe are going to start breaking into the top 100 next year or the year after.

ETQNV – You rarely play doubles with the same partner. Who do you think is your ideal partner? Who best complements you? And who do you have the most fun playiing with?

JM – I think I most like playing with, and I get along best with, Machi González because I've known him my whole life, we've played since we were kids and we had good results: we won a tournament, we made the semis of the US Open. I also played a lot with Lucas Arnold and it was very good. And lately I haven't been playing doubles much because of my wrist injury and this is going to be the first tournament where I play doubles and I'm going to play with Cuevas, who I get along with well enough, we're pretty good friends and this year in Rome we did pretty good, we made the semifinals.

ETQNV – What match do you remember coming out of and saying “that was the best match of my life”?

JM – I think the final of Buenos Aires, the first tournament I won, where I beat Di Mauro easily, I felt great about how I played. Then I remember a semifinal match against Verdasco in Kitzbuhel one year where I also played incredible, I won in two sets. But it's very rare that I feel like I played incredible, you always demand more from yourself and try to keep getting better so I very rarely think that I've played the best match of my life.

ETQNV – Do you feel accomplished in your career so far? Is there anything left that's still gnawing at you?

JM – No, I think I'm in the middle of my career. I have a lot left to give, I think. Although I've made it to 14 in the world, my long term goal is to be in the top 10. I think I will be accomplished when I reach the top 10. That's my goal.

ETQNV – If Argentina was back in the Davis Cup final again, which rival would you choose, Spain or France? Why?

JM – It depends, it depends whether we're playing at home or away. I think both teams are very difficult but if we had to play another final at home maybe I would like it to be Spain. That way we could have vengeance for the Argentine people, the people of Argentine tennis are still a little hurt. And we would try to reverse the situation.

ETQNV – Our page (ETQNV) closely follows the Futures and Juniors. What advice would you give to those who are fighting to earn their first ATP ranking point? Tell us about your experience.

JM – Sometimes when you don't have any ATP ranking points it seems way too difficult. And the truth is that yes, it's harder to get that first point than to get the next 10 because it's something you yearn for and you're working so hard and it looks so difficult because everyone is better or bigger when you're young, a kid. I think I would tell them that they have to be calm, don't be impatient, don't be so obsessed with getting that first point but look forward and grow in the rankings.

ETQNV – You've lived in countries outside of Argentina such as Spain and the U.S. What did you like most about each place? Anything that you miss? Would you live outside Argentina again?

JM – Yes I think I would do it over again because being outside Argentina really helped my development. I could do things like play a tournament every week if I wanted but in Argentina I couldn't have done it because they weren't happening, because of scheduling and economic issues. It made me grow up fast, it made me leave home and experience a suffering that afterwards formed me in my tennis career. I mean, all the suffering of having gone away so young was transformed into the desire and enthusiasm I put into my career to one day become a professional tennis player, which is what I wanted from the first day I left home. Also Miami and Barcelona, when I lived there, I loved those cities, they are still the most beautiful cities I could have lived in.

ETQNV – A few days ago you commented on Twitter about a football game on PlayStation and the penalty for the losers. What is the funniest thing you've had to do for losing a game? And that you've made somebody else do? And who was it?

JM – I think the hardest one we had to do was with Rafa in Indian Wells once. We lost to Moya and Ferrer and we had to go from the room to the gym, about 200 meters, in our underpants and in front of everyone do 10 pushups, I think that was the roughest of all. Then in Hamburg also we had lost and at 9 at night go downstairs in our underpants and do 20 pushups in front of the receptionist, also dying of embarrassment. And we've made them do something similar, or run around like a dog all over the players lounge, I don't remember whether it was Ferrer or Moya we made do that a couple of times. And then on Twitter Murray talked about us playing, we beat him and he had tweeted that they beat us and it was all a lie, we won ourselves and I don't know why he said that.

ETQNV – And last of all, what did it mean to you to be able to go to the World Cup in South Africa?

JM – A beautiful experience to have gone, to have been there but painful to have gone there and lost. I wish it was 2014 alreadyd so I could erase this image of the World Cup that I'm stuck with.

My problem has been that I'm still totally without interest in tennis :sobbing: At this rate I am not even excited about the AO and that kind of depresses me :( I know I probably just need to get there and I'll be fine - I hope so!
Awwww Sommarsverige thats sweet  and you're right, this board should be more active :rocker2:

Ya know Sommars (can I call you that? Its easier :o) I am moving to Spain, after just being there for months, but where I was living/am going to live is where Ferru was born!! His father runs the local tennis club which I went to have a look at :hearts: When I get back I might join
So you ARE moving to Spain more permanently now? :) ... but does that mean you won't be around Liverpool or Manchester next year when I am? :awww:

Peta, I absolutely know what you mean...But I am sure once the AO will get even closer, you will be excited ;) When I haven´t been following tennis for a while, I have the same feelings...But at the moment and especially after this georgeous tournament in Valencia I can´t imagine happening this to me soon again ;) Peta, do I read correctly that you will come to Europe again next year??? That would be sooooooooo great :)

:Zaz: Nice to meet you :) Are you serious you are moving (or have already moved) to Jávea??? How lucky you are :) I was there one day during the trip to Valencia and just loved that place!!!! Especially the wonderful weather they have there compared to Northern and Middle Europe :(
And btw, you can call me Birte which is my real name, probably even easier

Talk soon again everyone

Hi Birte :D Nice to meet you. I am Mia. I was in Jávea from September to the end of November, and I go back in January - can't wait :bounce: The weather was incredible, I came home at totally the wrong time - now stuck in all this snowy madness!! I spoke to a friend back in Spain and they said it was -1 a night ago, but during the day they had warm sunshine. But still, hot compared to -20 no? :p Did you like Valencia too? I want to make a trip there when I go back, maybe coincide with the tennis tourney - especially as Pico goes annually ;)

Whereabouts in Germany are you?

Yes I'm going back to Europe but this time only the UK. I'm going to London (again), Liverpool, Manchester and Scotland for about a month :) Now got to wait for the next 8 months to fly by!

As for the AO, my plans for that seem to be falling apart so I really don't know if I will enjoy it at all. It promises to be my most unenthusiastic visit there ever at this point.

I really think we should re-activate this Pico Chat Thread back to life again :)
Aquarianbabe, Peta, Ana, Zaz, Nolba, Corinne, Mary...where is everyone?

Let´s hope Pico wins against Djokovic and we´ll have lots to talk about ;)

I am sorry, I have not been on MTF for ages.... This thread should definitely be more active!! Pico ended the season as Nr. 1 of Argentina, despite of the fact that he was 2 months out of the circuit due to wrist injury. He played so well in his last tournaments, and it was so great to be there in Valencia to watch him beat Murray :) I am sure he will have a great year 2011, and I think it is even possible to enter the Top 10. VAMOS!!!!!

:wavey: Aloha everybody,
I wanted to ask a favor. I'm without a tv and with a very limited internet connection here, but I want to cheer for Pico more this year. I got to see him play in Madrid a couple of years ago, such fun to watch him fight and roar and laugh on the court. Will you help me keep up, please? Checking the scores doesn't cut it, but reading your cheers and comments should do it :) And if any tennis players happen to be checking out the Big Island I'll do my best to investigate it for you all ;)

I started out on the Gillou forum but skipped the last year. I live off grid, limited by solar power to run the computer, but I think I've got the hang of it now to spend time here and get re-obsessed with tennis while leaving some battery charge for lights and running the water pump :D

So in Hawai'i, Piko means belly button/navel.

Now when I think about Pico I can't help thinking of belly buttons, too
