Hamburg, Umag and Beyond...

I thought a new thread should be started for Willy's next couple of tournaments.

Unfortunately Willy and Prieto lost their dubs match against Massur and Dabul in 3 sets 9-11.

Wishing Willy lots of good luck in qualifying (I think, I will go and check) for Hamburg's MD.

Oops sorry, Aquarian, it is in the Netherlands indeed. Willy was supposed to play together with Recourdec, but the frenchman withdrew after the news of the passing of Mathieu Montcourt. Such shocking news! But i can't help feeling very bad for Willy, coming all this way to play doubles and then not to be playing at all. Ofcourse it's relative in respect to Montcourt's death but still.....

I am sure Willy would of thought nothing of it, it is a pity he couldn't of found a replacement partner. Anyway he will get some more practice time.

He could even go to and watch Argentina play DC over the weekend, aferall he is in Europe. Do you know anything about the new DC Captain?

Indeed it is very sad the passing of Montcourt, who looks like he was on the rise again.

Dunno much about the new captain. Willy wasn't practicing today as far as i could tell, but he was still there.
No idea what he'll do this weekend, maybe he goes back to bundesliga. There's no scedule yet, so it would be guessing at this stage

Willy beat Goransson 6-2 6-0 to make the MD of Bastad :rocker2:

Woot Woot a bagel in the 2nd set, in the MD he plays Frederico Gil (I think) of Portugal. This match is winnable.

Willy is going to play Grigor Dimitrov instead, I don't like this match up at all. I am rather nervous to say the least.

Woohoo Willy won in straight sets. I was lucky enough to watch a choppy stream and he looked good. He was focus and returned serve really well, his own serve was working well as was his fh. He even came into the net a couple of times. Oh yeah I even managed to see his hair down. Unfortunately no shirt change. His next opponent is Swede Vincguera (sp!), I think this match is winnable.

Well done Willy :yeah: (Wasn't as lucky as you AB, since I could only sneak to the SB from time to time at work :p )

If only he could get that 1st serve working...

martine I think maybe his wrist plays up from time to time and thats when the serve goes off. Oh yeah forgot to add the handshake at net was pretty good also. The commies also kept mentioning about his suspension and wrist injuries (boring) but made up for it by saying that Willy always had a smile on his face and was really personable.

Possible that his wrist is the problem, but then again the serve never has been his strongest weapon.
And yes, Willy's handshake always is warm. That's one of the reasons I like him :D

Good luck for the next round! :rocker2:

Yeah, Willy's always so friendly up at the net. Even with a few certain players. ;)

He plays Vinciguerra next, who could potentially be tricky.

Willy just lost a close 3 setter match against Vinciguerra 7-6, 3-6, 4-6. He had the break in the 3rd to make matters worse. He df on match point. I only got to watch a bit of the last set as I went out for dinner. His serve wasn't working as well as against Dimitrov. His bh looked ok though. I think it is more a confidence thing than his overall game. He gets into a winning position then loses it. Hopefully the confidence will come back. I think he is off to Umag now. At least he won four matches in a row and two tiebreakers.

Good news, Willy won his first rd of quallifying but to get into the MD he needs to beat Starace :scared:.

Oh dear Willy lost 4-6, 2-6 against Starace.

I posted this in the wrong thread.

It looks like Willy has pulled out of Umag, he is not listed in MD or quallies and on the entry list his name has out next to it. Hope he is ok and has just decided to take a couple of weeks off before getting ready for the hc season.
