Interesting list! Many good, interesting players. Maybe not the absolute top of the line players, but this will still be a very good event...

To bad my wife don´t wanna go to Croatia this year! It would have been nice to be in Umag this week :)

Volandri and Dodig got WCs. 3rd most likely to some Slovenian, best chances for Kavcic.

Nothing against Kavcic, Volandri has had good results in Umag, but not giving it to Veic (i don't like him much), as an up-coming croat is just crap

Exactly. I don't see how Kavcic got it and not Veic
Veic deserved it IMO, he has had decent results on challengers played on clay...

thanks for the news smucav, but only doubles? Won't he get WC to singles as well maybe?

This news was in the Serbian Press a few weeks ago. And at the stage, they said Novak wouldn't play singles - just doubles. Seems he is taking holidays around the Croatian Islands with his girlfriend over this post-Wimbledon period, and just wanted to play doubles in Umag to help out his brother, before concentrating on hardcourt practice for the US hardcourt season.

Why do they give a WC to a Slovenian player? Veic would be a logical choice here.

To draw Slovenian tourists to the tourney? Dunno, but the tournament director always had a certain affinity for Slovenia.

I must say with all the hype they tried to generate during last season's tournament for this one, seeing how it's the 20th edition and how they plan on bringing some big names, I must say that I find the entry list a bit bland.

Doubles entry list:
1. Cermak/Mertinak 59 (rank. combined)
2. Knowle/Melzer 61
3. Skoch/Zelenay 106
4. Darcis/Ch.Rochus 116
5. Bolelli/Seppi 119
6. Almagro/Ventura 122
7. Cuevas/Maxi Gonzalez 124
8. Chela/Ramirez-Hidalgo 129
9. Cerretani/Rettenmaier 143
10. Kohlmann/Stakhovsky 146

Canas didn't bother to enter quallies, I hope he is not injured. Or maybe he decided to head back to the States and concentrate on hardcourt.

Canas played Bundesliga yesterday and will probably also play tomorrow.
