Just read a rather worrying article on the Internet about this tournament on http://www.sports-city.org/news_details.php?news_id=8620&idCategory=34.

An excerpt from the article:

"Authorities in the German city of Hamburg have issued a cease and desist order against online gaming operator bet-at-home.com and local tournament organisers, in an attempt to block the company’s title sponsorship of the ATP Hamburg Open which is due to commence later this month.

Last week the event’s organisers renamed the tournament the bet-at-home Open, dropping the .com element from all promotional material and removing hyperlinks to the online gaming site after a legal intervention by Schleswig-Holstein's state-licensed casino. The casino operator argued that the sponsorship deal represented a clear breach of the State Treaty on Gaming since bet-at-home.com does not hold a valid German gaming license.

Despite the name change however and removal of links to the gaming site from the tournament website, Hamburg authorities have increased pressure on the organisers to completely drop bet-at-home as a sponsor of the event. "

On the tournament website I cannot find anything about this. Has there been anything in the German press about it?

bet-at-home.com is not the sponsor any longer.

There is only a German article at the moment.

Thanks for pointing out the article. Looks like they are continuing, even with the loss of that sponsor money !

Yep, the subforum should be renamed, it's called "International German Open" now.

yes but he want to withrew from indianpolis and play here!

That's not allowed, I think. :awww:

Edit: (from the ATP rulebook) 7.12 Wild Cards: "d) A tournament may not offer a wild card or accept the entry from any player who has either accepted a wild card or been committed by an entry method to another tournament in the same week."

yes but he want to withrew from indianpolis and play here! That's not allowed, I think. :awww:Correct. The relevant rule is the one tournament per week rule. Once a player is entered in one tournament, he cannot withdraw & play another tournament in the same week. The exceptions are 1) a player can withdraw from a tournament to play Davis Cup or 2) with permission of the ATP which is usually reserved for extreme circumstances such as a force majeure that cause the tournament to be canceled or a player to have extreme difficulty getting there. (Examples: the Covington challenger was canceled after Hurricane Katrina so players entered there could accept a wild card or play qualifying at other ATP events that week. Also, in Bangkok recently (2007?), there was some kind of political unrest right before the tournament so the ATP authorized players who didn't want to travel there to withdraw & take wild cards or play qualifying at another ATP tournament. No one did.)

Players aren't allowed to withdraw & play somewhere else just because they get a better offer elsewhere. (I can only remember one time that an individual player was allowed to withdraw from an ATP tournament & play another tournament & in that case the second tournament was a challenger so he wasn't asking for an exemption in order to make more money.)

It says the wild-cards go to Florian Mayer, Dominik Schulz and Daniel Brands.
(And bet-at-home will still give money this year even though their name can't appear anymore, so the tournament should be fine.)

They should have changed the surface to hard.

I appreciate it that they gave WC to Dominik Schulz. He probably won´t have a chance to defeat anyone in this field but it´s a great experience for such a young player.

i don't understand the reason for giving the wc to schulz. of course it is a great experience but it is for many other young player too. i think its a shame for such a grat tournament to give a wc to player who even nerver played a future in a main field. why they didn*t give a wc to guys like julian reister? he is living in this region and he played a very good year. and he knows michael stich very well because they played in a team together in the 2.devision.

I guess there´s hope, that Schulz becomes a decent player in the future. Reister is already a couple of years older and his results aren´t that good in my opinion. It´s not likely that Reister reaches Top 100 at all in my opinion.
