Well played. Hewitt is a very good matchup for Nadal, really allowing him to play his game, but he's looking better with each round.

As for Lleyton, not much he can do. Should do well on grass.

Nadal was incredible today, lifted his game a few notches from his first two matches. I thought Lleyton played very well, played attacking tennis and tried not to let Nadal dictate play.

Nadal was just freakish out there, barely made a mistake the topspin he generates on his forehand is scary. Full credit to Lleyton for hanging in there and trying to be positive throughout, really not a lot more that he could have done today, Nadal was in the zone.

There is no way anyone is beating him again this year, no way.

Rafa was too good. hewitt played some good tennis in patches.

Hewitt tried to mix things up and tried to use a good tactic in the second , attacking Rafa's backhand then making fast strokes to the forehand side but he wasn't so precise and Rafael managed to skip this pattern after a while as well.

Actually RAFA was showing LLEGS respect by crushing him so badly..
Its precisely because Nadal knows that you never count Hewitt out that he was fully focused from beginning to end, and ensured he brought his A-game.. If Nadal had played a lesser player he would have lost concentration and lost a few more games..

Anyway its disappointing but not unexpected><.
Hewitt can still look forward to a good run at Wimby & USO.!

Cmon Hewitt. Gabashvilli gave a better fight.

Llegs doesn't have enough firepower for Nadal on this type of clay. He was struggling with high bounce top spin balls on both wings and whatever angle he used on his favorite BH CC was just going to Nadal strength. He completely failed at creating angles on FH CC, especially on shorter balls.

rafa was in devasting form, he was just toying with hewitt. he got angry to let hewitt get a game in the 3rd set. almost every hewitt service game hewitt won he was almost broken, hewitt was hitting hard to nadal's forhand and backhand, with angles, coming to net, but nadal was just coming up with some mind boggling shots, esp. to get the break in the 4rd set at 3-3. now rafa needs to start giving some bagels to his buddy soderling.
this was like the nadal of last year's french open. dominating and in devastating form. it was man against boy.

i must say that the french crowd are a bunch of filthy wild animals. i think it might be a good idea to give the french open to spain or germany to host it. most of that french crowd seems like unemployed and frustrated lower class level people. i guess they lack basic human manners due to poor education. i thought tennis fans that attended matches were posh people, not rowdy hooligans.

hewitt.... gave the fist pump and c'mon at 0*-1 serving 40-0... then relaxed, got sloppy, and promptly made 3 errors then went on to lose the game...

massive sign that hewitt hasn't rediscovered his game yet...

most decent club players know you dont give a solid c'mon + fist pump combo so early - unless, you have already WON the game... silly mis-use of emotional energy... people love feeding off such misuse of audible encouragement and love nothing better than to let it stoke their fire... i am sure hewitt just wanted to let nadal know he was up... but f*** me swingin mate, leave it till the game is over - then it actually means something...

nadal was gonna win it, but, genuinely thought LleyGOAT was worth a set today with his lead up...

anyways, blessing in disguise - early grasscourt prep... Stella Artois :wavey:

There were probably more Rafa fans that thought Hewitt had a chance. There was certainly an exponentially larger number of them posting ,, :scared: or some combo of the three. Take Sawan for instance, crying about the draw left and right because Ferrer and Almagro, Simon, and Wawrinka, each a monstrous claycourt challenge, arewere standing in Rafa's way...

I didn't see the match itself and probably won't get to later tonight, so I'll toss my two pennies in now. I didn't think this would be much of a match, though rumors of Nadal's health posed potential questions. Hewitt is cannon fodder for Nadal, only more so on clay. Rafa can do pretty much everything Hewitt can do and then some, so it's no surprise that he took it here. Is Rafa injured, unbeatable, playing possum... still don't know. Verdasco and the following semi (hopefully Tsonga or Murray) will be the first indication, but if like '08, there won't be any real indication at any point as to what Rafa's limit is.

Given that Hewitt put up a much better fight against healthy Nadal next year at FO he must have improved tremendously on clay in that one year span.

It's a big load of shit. Losing 1-6 3-6 1-6 on clay, your worst surface is definitely less embarassing than conceding a double bagel on a fast hard court, your best surface, in a Slam final, within your prime time.(l. to Federer 0-6 6-7 0-6 in USO 2004).

Additionally, Nadal was not injured, just out of gas.

Federer's stats for that final were like 44 winners and 5 unforced errors- Hewitt wasn't embarrassed, just powerlessly outclassed.

Most open post to the idea Nadal could potentially lose in RG 2009. Also confirms awareness that Nadal might have an injury before the match Nadal played against Soderling in the next round to finally lose at RG.
