Lurch Hanescu gets revenge on Simon for beating him in Bucharest, by returning the favour in Paris.

Very solid from Hanescu, served well, kept good length and used some good touch as well. Had a poor break conversion, but was able to get it done eventually.

Simon at *2-4 in the 3rd set serving and break point down, called for the trainer, he tried to slide, but got stuck in the court.

Nice and solid thrashing from Legend. Perhaps he can go one better and obtain again the best result of his career QF at RG. Legend!

Good for the game Hanescu winning and also kudos to Simon played it out after getting the treatment, it didn't look good for him.

Dracula seems to enjoy playing in Paris. Impressive run and it should be an interesting one against Gonzalez.

It would have been 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 again if Simon didn't get hurt.

He has as easy as possible draw but I still think he will be upseted.

Rude for quoting myself but couldn't help it cause all of that master tactician discussion about Simon in previous rounds.

Calm and well placed shots from Hanescu with no pace for Simon to work with it and of course he doesn't know what to do with them, making errors while trying to be aggressive.

Lurch's run in 2005 when he made the quarter finals, at the time he was ranked 90th was impressive he beat Chela (when he wasn't rubbish), Horna and Nalbandian in a row before losing to Federer.

Yep, I still recall the match against Nalbandian. Nalbandian after the match said something like "there wasn't much I could have done, he was on fire".

Big ups to the Count.

Gilles had a cakewalk draw for the first week and he blew it. Hope he isn't seriously injured.

Yeah, you have awesome Nostradamus-like powers. I don't think the whopping two people you're referring were trying to say Simon is some master tactician. At least I wasn't. I was trying to counter your inference that he has no tactics.

One would never guess you have some kind of grudge with him based on your posts.

Thank goodness I didn't put vcash on Simon. But I expected him to pick his level up in the second and third sets instead of Simon bitching ang moaning and bulging

That is the point, I don't have any grudge with him, and why I brought it up is exactly because what was the main story in those discussions: That Simon is the best tactician on the tour - that was said more then once. I can understand fans being protective and overestimate their favorite player, but that was way over the top. And whopping anyone was definitely not my goal. I just wanted to point out that it is much better when you( not literally you but everyone) keep it down a notch when it comes to your favorite player cause you are rarely being objective and you are seeing good things that are not there and not seeing bad things that others can.

Were it not for Simon's ultimate cunning tactical play, this would have been a triple bagel.

Alright, I hear you. But if I yammer too much about him it's because if anything the popular thing on GM is to mindlessly mock him. The haters who regurgitate the same 'tennis won' crap outnumber the people (not me) who called him a tactical genius by about 10 to 1. It was possible to see he had underrated abilities long before he committed the Ultimate Crime in Tennis History by reaching the top 10. But this year has been a comedown for anyone who likes him, no doubt.
