How good can this Ouanna be?

05-27-2009, 08:44 PM
This is not meant to be a bandwagon thread. :)

Today we have seen a very good performance from this 23 year old frenchman. He is a late developer, only three years ago he was ranked around No.600, playing futures and last year at Roland Garros he was ranked No. 227 when losing to JMDP in the 1st round...after that he went back playing futures and challengers with good success. And now he is at No.134.

Looking at his ranking and playing activity I'm wondering...was this just one great day or a beginning of something big?
I think he could brake into top 100, it will be interesting to see if he can build on this, he has some weapons and a solid mentality. :rocker2:

He could be the next Oliver Mutis

solid top 100 player.

He will reach nr 99, and Sidorenko nr 100.
You go Sidorenko!

Good win against Safin but do we really need this thread? Ouanna was solid but nothing special, his natural ranking will be around top 40-80.

05-27-2009, 09:09 PM
I would think maybe top 50

05-27-2009, 09:09 PM
Guy is copy of James Blake, TOP 80

Top 5 easily

it'a not about Ouanna. It's all about Safin and how the mind can rule outcome in professional tennis. It's beyond being sad as far as Safin followers are concerned. Safin followers are speechless.

Where this will be decided is in the next few weels in the challengers and qualies. can Ouanna keep up this level of play vs loeeser competition. can he play up or will he play down to the level of his opponent? His consistency of results will be what decides this. if he can play at this level consistently than I will say he will be top 40

it's unbelievable he beat safin, he is the real number one

He needs to enter big events so that his ranking will improve to within top hundred,he is really a composed guy and doesnt make a lot of errors. He was toe to toe with big server Safina,he can drop shot, serve and volley and uses slice effectively.
If he enters top 100 and is able to get into big events his ranking will improve.

Sorry, no harm intended, but I just have to do it...

Let's not get carried away. It WAS one match against The Safin. And I'm a Safin fan.. But not that speechless based on recent performances.

This win does not erase losses like the one against Economidis:o

Based on what I saw today, I think he could crack the top 100. After he gets crushed by Gonzalez, he'll be somewhere around 120-125ish.

He's defending only 46 points from now until September, so the next few months will be huge to see whether he can build on this result.

he is already 23.:wavey:

05-28-2009, 01:07 AM
Top 70. Josselin's game is waaaay too inconsistent for a solid place in the Top 100, but he can crack the Top 70 with some good runs I think.

05-28-2009, 07:15 AM
Top 50 if he can keep that level.

05-28-2009, 08:19 AM
Top 50 player later this year..

05-28-2009, 08:54 AM
Too early to ask. He's got some good strokes and showed mental strength yesterday but one match is never enough.

05-28-2009, 09:39 AM
Surely he'll crack the top 100 but whether or not he'll stay there I am not sure.

05-28-2009, 09:52 AM
Well he has to cut down using the BH slice, & go for his BH a few times

Ability to break the top 100, but the rest is up to him. He looks good when he is on, but I can't imagine how hideous his tennis must be on a bad day. :scared:

05-28-2009, 10:29 AM
I won't be betting any more vcash against him

05-28-2009, 10:37 AM
Anyone remembers Jerome Haehnel? I rest my case, ladies and gentleman!

05-28-2009, 11:06 AM
Without this audience hardly top 50.

05-28-2009, 11:34 AM
Top 20
You'll see

I understand what your saying but they are not the same person.

well ranked 129 now, the win over Safin really did nothing for his career advancement.

Ouanna was always overrated, I can see him as a 60 or so ranked guy, and that's about it. His game is very generic in every single way, and he's basically an inconsistent ball basher with one good ground stroke and a good serve.

Multiple slam winner IMO
