RG R2: Simon def. Kendrick 7-5, 6-0, 6-1.

Confidence seems to be returning slowly but surely. Stats like last year apparently, 31-11 according to the tracker. Cant really trust that though. Still, good result. Hanescu next, harder then his first 2 matches.

Kendrick is a total, total clay mug. Words do not describe how bad he is on clay.

05-27-2009, 12:34 PM
Was competitive for the first set. Kendrick's serve/volley was allowing him to hold despite his serve being relatively ineffective in the cold, and slow Lenglen. In rallies he was being aggressive enough to win a fair few points.

Howver, at 5-5 Kendrick had bps, missed em, Simon held. Then Kendrick threw away his serve and the set with several silly UEs.

Opening service game of 2nd, Kendrick again had a bp, missed it. After that a total tank job, just gave up, errors galore.

Simon is coming back :)

05-27-2009, 01:36 PM
Routine for Gilles. Twilight making a comeback here?

I'm not so sure about a return to form here, but at least the ease of the win should allow Simon to get his head straight. Onwards and upwards.

Well done Gilles. Good luck against the Count.

Routine for Gilles. Twilight making a comeback here?

 I like that.

Good stuff, hope he can reach the quarters.

Go Simon!!!! Just waiting on the bulge picks

05-27-2009, 03:27 PM
Congrats Gilles :yeah: But I wouldn't read anything into this win, really. Kendrick is not good on clay, and Simon in any form is a bad match-up for him gamewise.

05-27-2009, 03:34 PM
Oh yesss, Simon! :yeah: Great job!

05-27-2009, 03:34 PM
Good job Gilles!!

good luck simon.

I like Kendrick

Oh Robert :sobbing::unsure:. Good effort though this tournament :).

that's the way to win matches vs mugs
well done seemoney

Oh Robert :sobbing::unsure:. Good effort though this tournament :).

Don't think he had much chance here - he needed to be able to blast through Simon, and it was just too cold out there. Add on the match being schedule on Lenglen....

There was also a heavy amount of money put on Simon this morning before the match, which usually indicates info leaking out about player's health (trainers/physios/masseurs, whole bunch of people have access to this sort of thing, and there are a lot of pro gamblers who follow the tour and cultivate these contacts). Not matchfixing amounts of money, just new info, as happens with maybe 10% of matches. He was hospitalized just the other week, so after the long match against Brands it was a question of whether he would recover just in time - he is 29, after all.

Shame - I thought there might have been a chance of an upset here tbh. Needed hot weather, Kendrick to be fit and serving countless firebomb aces. In the event he produced 5 aces (admittedly Simon on clay is very hard to ace, but still), rather than the 35 against Brands, and was just under too much pressure on serve. Once he went behind, he folded completely.

What an joke draw to the second week for Simon... good for him to be taking advantage.

Simon is still a long way to his usual form. The SL reflects more of the terrible match that Kendrick played. I don't see any disagreement between Kendrick and the umpire but after the match, he didn't shake hand with the umpire. That's pretty rude.
