—No, no escuché nada.

David Nalbandian walks out of his apartment in which he's staying in
the Centaurus neighbourhood, where the Argentinian and American
delegations are staying. He has a cellphone in his hand and, when he
approaches this journalist, he changes the direction says hello, very
politly. There's been 4 days since he withdrew from the Olympics. In
Argentina Guillermo Coria (surgery)and Gaston Gaudio (heel problem)
had withdrawn. And, a day after beating Beck, Agustin Calleri
withdrew too because of a little strain in the abs. To make things
worse Mariano Zabaleta, Juan Ignacio Chela, Mariana Diaz Oliva and
Gisela Dulko lost in the first round. Paola Suarez lost in the second
round. Also said goodbye the doubles, except Paola Suarez and
Patricia Tarabini that made it to the QF yesterday.

Dispite of the defeat, Nalbandian is here. Enjoying of the Olympic
Games that hadn't him as a protagonist. He is there to cheer for the
female hockey, Jose Meolans and the Football team. No one could cheer
him. The guy from Unquillo just could play one match in almost three
months because of several injuries, The chat is being made while he
walks towards a bus that will take him to the Cafeteria. It was snack
time. The blond guy was in a good mood and, maybe a little hungry...

-What happened to you exactly?
-I was training in Miami, I had withdrawn from Cincinnati to be ready
here. But when I was training really hard, very well, and on tusday
in the afternoon I had a little bothering in the left thigh. I
thought it was just a contraction, but then we made some tests here,
in Athens, and there was a little tear or something like that. We
tried to play but there was no way.

-Didn't you notice that before coming here that you had that?
-It happened to me the day before coming here. I was about to travel.
I didn't think it was serious.

—To get the gold medal you have to win six matches. If it was just
one, like a final, have you been able to try?
-The doctor told me that it was inconvinient to start playing, that
it was not worth it.

The feeling we get from the Argentinian delegation is that for some
tennis players the Olympics are not a priority. Several sportsmen,
and above all, some members of the Argentinian Olympic Cometee are
still doubting of that level of compromise. This subject in the chat
is changing his mood and the original cordiality. It's akward now.

-Have you heard what people is saying about the tennis players?
-No, I haven't heard anything.

-That the Olympics are not your priority. That's very weird that all
of you are injured together, and especially now.
-But, why, what's the matter. No one gets injured...It's just that in
an individual sport you get injured and is over. If it were a team
sport, one gets injured and the other one replaces him and no one
finds out about it.

—Are these injuries because of the schedule?
-Yes. It's not easy playing tennis, you have to play all the time.
None of the people that's here compete week after week.

—Does it bother you that your willing to play here is in doubt?
-No one wanted to play here more than myself. It was my dream to get
into the court and to fight for a medal. Besides, if I don't get well
for the US Open, what are they gonna say, they will still be doubting
that I didn't want to play...

-Maybe yes...
-If you want I can get you the tests. I'll do it if you want. Are you
a doctor? I think you're a veterinarian. The thing is that the
journalists write a lot of bullshit, they don't know anything and
then people think anything.

It's the end of the interview. Not the chat. The cordobes is feeling
accused, I tell him that's not right. But he doesn't get it. He gets
in the bus and leaves. There was no explaination that he could find
convinient. It's a shame, there was a lot more to be asked and the
things are not clear.

It seems that David is really pissed off being asked questions about his withdraw. And being asked the way he was...The reason he left without any explanation looks clear to me.

I don't think David's attitude was the best, after all the journalist was asking fair questions...

The journalist is asking the questions in a rhetorical way. Seems to me he wanted David to say he didn't want to play. David's reaction wasn't as polite as usual, but understandable.

He was??? I really like Pepe, even more now. There are some journalists that said horrible things about him, like Mario Pergolini, and I was soooo mad at him! The guy won a lot of medals in his career and now he has a poor performance and he's useless!!!I don't get it. I hope he can participate in the next Olympics, he says that he will retire, but I really hope he won't, he's amazing.

Yes he was there, sreaming and jumping really nice....I hear what Pergollini said, but Jazz...is Pergollini, he knows about the sports, what we know about the political goverment....means NOTHING!!!!!
So don´t worry, Conte(Hugo the voleey player) told last night that the whole world of the sport was with Pepe cheering and supporting him and that nobody can say nothing bad about him , cause nobody knows nothing about swiming and how hard Pepe work for this olympics....and the journalist that was with him taulking about the match told to that T&C sport was supporting Meolans always, that was just a couple of bad days, but that Pepe is our argentinian proud....
So i guess Pergollini doesn´t count anymore.....C´mon Jazz he was cheering for Gaudio, making a lot of promess in RG, that he never did....remember???

crigazzio
08-20-2004, 04:04 PM
I mean Pergollini never did what he promises to Gaudio if he richs the finals in RG....so his words are NOTHING!!!!

Vamos Negra/Pato...they have the first set!!!!!
I´m really nervious Jazz!!!!!!!

What happened with Horacio de la Peña's ex wife? Is she a mercenary? Is that why he left to Chile.
The woman is totally insane. She accused de la Peña of cheating, stealing money from her father and that he was stalking him when it was all the other way around. Really pathetic, and now she's in the gossip shows talking about her ex...
