Just insane. Previous was 51 at Wimbledon too, and that went to 12-10 in the fifth.

At one point a well-known book was offering over/under 99 aces, something like 4/1.

What are the top 4? Who played the one mentioned above, 12-10 in the fifth at Wimbledon? And is Agassi/Johannson, 2005 Aus Open in the top 4 too?

Ivo :-) 51 aces, (previous) joint top with.....

.....Agassi/Johannson, 2005 Aus Open.....

Kuerten is 4th I think. Can't remember who's third.

These are all on grass/hard I imagine. Anyone got a record for clay?

55 Karlovic vs Hewitt RG 2009 (lost)
54 Muller vs Lundgren W 1993 qualifying match
51 Johansson vs Agassi AO 2005(lost)
51 Karlovic vs Bracciali W 2005(lost)

You should check Voo's stats, he got all this covered in details.

The most authoritative compilation of the records and histories of tennis written by Bud Collins, the Hall of Fame tennis journalist, broadcaster and personality, documents American Ed Kauder as the holder of the record of striking the most aces in a match. Kauder fired 59 aces in a 6-2, 3-6, 9-11, 10-8, 6-0 first-round loss to fellow American Ham Richardson at the 1955 U.S. Championships at Forest Hills. Karlovic's 55 aces stands as the second-most all-time tally and as the most aces in a match at Roland Garros.

Obviously 1955 is a different story, 13 years before the Open Era :wavey:

Karlovic loses everywhere, not just RG.

And you need to learn what "moonball" really means, not the MTF version of moonball.

The previous record on clay was Guccione at 39 in a Davis Cup match against Switzerland three years ago, and even then, it was played indoors.

Bla, bla, bla, I'm not sure what you'd need to say to make it less ironic that a Roddick fan is ridiculing someone for being all serve. You like ultimate pusher better as a description, I don't care. I also don't care for Karlovic, just wante4d to say you're ridiculous, which is not that uncommon, but can't let them all go.

It's a wonder how Roddick wins so much more often than Karlovic....with a worse serve and that's "all" he has.

The courts played extremely fast for RG clay today. Verdasco hit a lot of aces, Gulbis had 26 in a relatively short match, and Andy M. had 10 in a very short match.

Roddick def Chang 6-3 6-4 6-7(5) 7-5 - Roddick had 37 aces (previously record holder) - Roddick wins

Hewitt def Karlovic 6-7(1), 6-7(4), 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-3 - Ivo had 55 aces - Karlovic loses

Karlovic has a bigger serve but worse english.

That's about the only difference.

I'll tell you what's not right, his game would be non-existent without his serve. He doesn't even try to break his opponent's serves because he knows he can't AND he can rely on his serve in tiebreakers.

If it wasn't for his big serve, Karlovic would be a weekend hacker like me.:)

Yes, that's what he relies on. And three, four tie-breaks per a match is annoying if it's all serves + waiting for the ue. :)

Ah, maybe you two should have a hit without serves! How would that turn out? :p

I'm prone to exaggeration :). He would crush me like a bug (I'm 5 foot 1 ha ha). I just think if he didn't have such an effective serve, he wouldn't be anywhere near the top 100. I have a friend who is 6'10" and he can't serve worth a damn. Imagine the possibilities if he could.

No, he lives on his serve out there. It's effective but his other game is no top 100 material.

Wow, your friend could have huge possibilities! Make him improve his serve
