That's what I thought. Montanes is a very good player on clay, but a semi is out of teh question. Will get to 3rd round, and then probably lose to Murray.

That report was full of crap.

Montañes in a hot run ? WTF ? :retard:

Viktor Troicki: One of the better players you may never have seen. Unfortunately, del Potro looms in second round.

Troicki it's like one of most boring players in top 100. :o

2. Roger Federer: The plot got a bit more interesting after the unexpected -- and unexpectedly easy -- win over Nadal in Madrid. Still, an awful lot of stars have to align for Federer to take down Nadal in Paris. Plus, he'll get an early test against Alberto Martin.

This is the same Martin that had this result:

2007 Australian Open Murray def Martin 6-0 6-0 6-1 when Murray was still a pup. Wertheim is an idiot.

Wertheim always goes with 1 bolt from the blue.

Best he ever did was calling Gaudio as SF in 2004 and he had no form.

Alberto Martin a test? A test of what? If Fed can lose a match without losing a single point? Come on, that guy is a clown. In fact, Fed can sleepwalk to the semis, where he is sure to take on Djokovic.

Nadal vs. a Surprise is only somewhat right. Murray will probably lose 1st or 2nd round. Someone posted betfair odds of that happening, 12-1 and 14-1. I think if you were a betting person, you could clean up here. But who will the 'surprise' be? Gonzalez? Dunno, but I doubt Montanes!!!!

Now Bud just better keep his mouth shut, unless he utters the name Federer.

Wertheim is a smart guy obviously, but a poor tennis journalist. Having no background in the sport, he seems to have little understanding of the match-ups and technical aspects of the game. That is evidenced enough by his very dodgy predictions and oft-elementary errors in his writing. SI should do the sport a favour and hire someone who is actually knowledgeable about tennis.

marcRD

Wertheim has done his homework, Alberto Martin could very well cause an upset against Federer. In 2006 monte carlo Martin managed to steal a game from Federer to avoid the double bagel, this time he could do even more damage.

Bodo thinks the semifinal spot against Djokovic is between injured Monfils and superchoker Mathieu. Mathieu is going to take Federer to a new low by beeing outchoked by Federer in the 3rd round.

Bodo and McEnroe called Federer a victim of bad fitness.
Bud Collins worshipped the coaching skills of Brad Gilbert, begged for brainwashed tennis players to hire Gilbert.
Werthless and Federer bitched about Djokovic's retirements and "humanity", brainwashed Mama's boy Roddick, to go on TV with insults.
Thereby, he handed Federer a free ride with a media-scared Djokovic.

They can join the pansy Courier, Pat Mc, Arias, Tracy Austin, Shriver, Cliff Drysdale, Barry McKay and Mal "loser" Washington.
Too bad Blake didn't retire too, even though his huge mouth is something to cherish.

I've wondered about that, too. But Mathieu today isn't close to the one who triggered the first Bananagate of 2006. And if he got close, could he pull the trigger? Monfils is struggling, too, though I guess he always struggles.

Clearly this is the King's time to lay clay claim to Federer's quarter.

Really, it's amazing how many clay court clowns are in Federer's quarter of the draw.

For once, the only year he doesn't do it, then he makes the semis.

Hmm. If Montanes is the answer, what on earth is the question?

Who can rally endlessly on mudpit-slow clay (eg Estoril), but gets overpowered on fast clay?

He could quite easily lose to Tipsy in the first round, who looked good in Dusseldorf (admittedly a faster court than Roland Garros), and beat him in Barcelona. Mountains is favourite, but not by a great deal.

I don't get these predictions that Montanes could come out of Murray's quarter. I think Gonzo would be a better bet.

Anybody know who that other "expert" predictor Bud Collins has picked. Bud made some sort of prediction today. :drink:

THERE’S NEW LIFE IN ROGER YET, AND THE FRENCH BECOMES INTERESTING

PARIS — So, does Roger return to his former status as “the greatest player of all time”? Probably, at least with some of his countless idolaters, who took his recent hammerings by Rafa Nadal personally. They suffered. He suffered. The Federer family suffered. But Madrid alleviated some of that suffering. However, Madrid isn’t Paris. Just as Little Rock isn’t Las Vegas. The difference is that Madrid was a tournament of admitted substance in a nifty new ball park — but Paris is a limited edition, one of the year’s four lalapaloozas, a treasure that dangles temptingly above 256 outstretched male and female hands like the apples of Hesperides. Paris, for Roundhouse Rafa, and Sister Serena is halfway to the grail — the Grand Slam. Odds are better for Rafa since he has showed he could win Wimbledon, a year ago — but he’s always been a mess at the Meadow’s season-ending U.S. Open. Still, in winning Australia he gave proof that he can win a hard court major. Serena has won the French — yikes! 7 long years ago — but appears in no condition to do it again this year. (Prognosticators beware: saying one of the sisters won’t win something can leave egg all over one’s face.) But in this case, Serena, well, does appear hobbled. At Key Biscayne she clearly suffered a leg injury while beating Venus in the semi. Serena gamely played the final, losing to Victoria Azarenka, then should have taken time off to recover. But what does she do? She flies to Spain to lose quickly in a minor tourney at Marbella. Why? Can you imagine that a juicy appearance fee was involved? Whatever, she hasn’t won since. Before the Madrid final, Nadal was virtually conceded the French title. Why would the other 127 guys bother to show up (except for very generous losers’ shares)? The situation changed (maybe) in Spain with Novak Djokovic running Rafa ragged for more than four hours in the semis, holding 3 match points, and Federer actually beating him. Of course that was best-of-3 sets. Rafa had worked up oceans of sweat in winning Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Italy in succession, and now has had a week off. Federer got a morale transfusion in his 6-4, 6-4, win, and played smarter. ”Yes, I was more offensive,” he says, pleased again with his forehand and serve. His attacking was shrewd and paid off. I think winning the French becomes possible for Roger. Or was he just flogging a dead horse in Madrid? Rafa prefers the courts, balls, atmosphere of this neighborhood where he is 28-0. Yes, Fed, the Lord of the swings, has reinstated himself as a threat at the only major he has yet to win. But even more so, I feel, is Djokovic. However, picking against Nadal is like wagering that Gibraltar will crumble. The women? It’s a tournament no one can win.
