Will Wayne Odesnik take out Gilles Simon in the 1st round of RG?

Simon is not exactly in great form and "the Hebrew Hammer" Odesnik doesn't mind the clay, though he doesn't believe in the slide technique.

Odesnik has the kind of game, where he won't give Simon the pace he likes to generate off the opponent. He will run all day and he has 3rd round points to defend as well, plus Simon has struggled to perform at Roland Garros?

yes he will take him out, i mean if Schuettler can do it why not Odesnik? :P

I haven't seen Odesnik play since the US Clay Courts, but with Simon's current form, this lefty will give him some real problems..

Gillou will prevail :p

Gillou will prevail :p
For his sake, he should. If he loses this then that's a whole clay court season's worth of points that he could've added to his current points gone. He's going to go through hell in the last part of the year defending all of his points if he doesn't pick up his act

Simug will lose. His RG record is 1-4 and he is abysmal on clay.

I wouldn't rule this out, given the extent of Gilles' slump recently.

But I'll always admire him as the unassuming guy who waltzed into the top 8 and pissed legions of tennis fans off. Love his game or loathe it, it's hard to hate someone who must have been one of the most unlikely candidates to break through to the top.

That would be amazing, but I doubt it.

I like Wayne, but I hope Gilles will stop the ball-bashing bs and win. He makes things too complicated for himself this year, and it messes up his outlook.

Whoever makes it out of this first round scrap has some easier rounds ahead of him.

This match has the potential (along with Djokovic-Lapentti, Steps-Gaudio, and maybe Murray-Chela and Baghdatis-Monaco) to be one of the best first round matches.

But regardless of the caliber of play or outcome, the results thread will be filled with Simon insults.

odesnik is a machine and should piss in a cup immediately to see if it is brake fluid...

Simon has lost to worse clay players than Odesnik this season....so I wouldn't be surprised at all. Odesnik wins in 4.

Oh god, you raise a good point. I remember his match against Monfils at the Aussie Open this year. Neither wanted to take the initiative. The rallies were soooo slow.

It won't be like that, Odesnik does hit quite a bit of topspin off the forehand and he won't be just pushing, but Simon likes to play guys like the Toad or Tursunov, who will give him the pace and then he generate from their shots, whereas big Wayne will be getting them up shoulder high to Simon, it depends if it's heavy or not.

Interesting poll result so far 20-19 to Odesnik.

Anyone's got a shot against Gillou at the moment, so it was good for him to come through it :)
