IF Federer won FO/Wimbly double...

Beating Rafa in both finals of course:

* he would have the slam record(15)
* career grand slam
* beat Rafa @FO

I think Roger would be totally relaxed the rest of his career if pulled this off. So the next 7 weeks are pressure-packed and he MUST get the job done!

well, his season hasn't been all THAT bad, he can totally pull it off at Wimby and the USO if he plays like he did against Rafa in Madrid ;)
still, RG is WAY OUT OF HIS LEAGUE, as long as Rafa is there (and maybe Djoker if he plays like he did Rafa on Madrid SF) he won't win it :sad:

He has to remain consistent, something foreign to him this year. I think he's a lock for the FO semis.

Nobody would like to see him end the GOAT debate more than me (if only to remove Sampras from it entirely, because I'm a big hater). But this is almost certainly not going to happen. If it somehow does, good. Debate over.

Let's put it this way, if he pulled off the FO, 25% this forum would never see Wimby, and 25% of those remaining would be on suicide watch until he lost at Wimby.

*Estoril + Halle + US Open + Basel* last year won "the Grandslam" :p

but this year:

kooyong=AO
Madrid=RG
Halle=Wimbledon
Basel=USO

2 Grandslams in a row :eek:, Rogie will do a laver feat!

I love RF, enjoyed watching him play so well in Madrid, but came here for laughs and got quite a few; lol, the idea of the thread, all posts on the liklihood of it happening, especially the analogy to the world going flat. I loved the "suicide watch" idea. I'm hoping for Rog to play well enough at the French to keep building his confidance, a win over either Murray or Djokovic seems possible and would do that for him, and then, to get the Wimby title back seems a possibility. That's me rational mind, but I could live in a world gone flat with posters committing hari-kari, lol.

I tell you something that would be better and more likely:

* Nadal defeats Federer in straight sets in the Roland Garros Final

* Nadal defeats Federer in straight sets in the Wimbledon Final (like he would have last year if there was a roof)

* Nadal wins the Calendar Year Grand Slam by beating Federer in the US Open Final

Actually that might be the least likely. Have the same two guys played in all four slam finals ?? That would be a historical year no matter how it turned out. In 62 Laver-Emerson almost pulled it off, and in 64 Emerson-Stolle almost did, and in 65 Roche and Drysdale screwed it up. I went all the way back to 52 and gave up.

Makes sense though, when was the last time 2 players have been hyped up as the next GOAT within 2 years (start of 2008 Federer was supposed to be the GOAT, now Nadal is projected to be the GOAT). So I can see why there will be world firsts this year. I can see them being in every slam final.
