Yani smacks down Tomic, Young, and now Russell too

This may not be worthy of a thread, but great win for US journeyman Michael Yani who rarely picks up challenger level match wins. He put out Bernard Tomic at the Sarasota Challenger yesterday. It looks like Tomic may have a ways to go before he's ready for the big tour. Go Yani!

In fact, two things helped Yani:
1- Tomic sucks a bit now on clay.
2-They were playing in USA.

He won 7-6 in the third.

What round of the tournament was it?

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if Tomic won't get triple-bagelled at his French Open R1. Clay's not his surface by the sounds of things.

Tomic would probably lose to Starace 1-6 1-6 1-6 on RG.
Just kidding, he would take at least 10 games.

Mike got into a groove about this time last year, then won Yuba City from the qualifying rounds and got into USO qualies for the first time in his career. Shortly after that he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his leg and sat out for months. Glad to see him doing well, would be nice to see him defend Yuba City. :)

Tomic can't do much worse than last year's Wildcard recipient Smeets. Maybe Australia should think about getting rid of the reciprocol wildcard with the French as come French Open time we out of players to give it to but at Australian Open time there are always a couple of players who are unlucky to miss out.

Never liked Tomic. He always came off as a little arrogant prick to me.

Nice to hear he lost.

Well, a spanish guy to like some white aussie with slavian origins is something very difficult really. There are some nations that simply don´t mix well together.

Well, I'm not Spanish, my father is white, and I date a Serbian girl. So much for your theory.

But it has nothing to do with his race. That was the last thing on my mind.

Yeah Tomic's attitude reminds me of Hewitt, what a yellow bastard. Comes from upbringing.

Spanish= white. :p In fact [2] I hope Tomic becomes a very arrogant champion, we miss bad guys lately.

OK, this is more worthy than my thread yesterday about Yani beating Bernard Tomic. Yani backed up that win by smacking down Donna Young in straight sets today (Sarasota Challenger for those wondering where this important tennis is going on). You heard it here first, Michael Yani is the future of American tennis! OK just kidding, but it's fun after pulling for the kid for what is it 10 years, that he's finally getting some noteworthy wins. Go Yani!

Who is Prodon? He's an unseeded player and he's on the oher side of the draw? Why would you think they'd be playing. Prodon would probably have to make it through Xavier Malisse first.

Michael Russell will be a big favorite next round against Yani. It would be a great win if he can pull it out against Russell.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure his dad is Japanese. Based on his appearance I'd guess he's half (or a quarter maybe) asian.

Beating Prodon isn't exactly noteworthy. He's one of the most whimsical players out there. If he doesn't care, anyone can beat him.

He beat Michael Russell today. I won't even suggest that being noteworthy :) but if Yani gets by Carsten Ball in the semis it should be Xavier Malisse in the final. That would be much more interesting to watch this weekend than seeing Nadal romp over Federer in another clay court final.

Looks like the dude has a week of his life, so I'll try to take away from him - Tomic is an inconsistent kid who couldn't lately play futures cos of a ban, Young is in a deep slump and loses to everybody, Russell was fatigued after Savannah and he won't be killing himself before RG :p.

Beating Russell on clay is noteworthy, but GWH is right in pointing out that Russell's priority is in Paris rather than in Sarasota.

So why Russell who "didn't care" played 3 long sets against Yani instead of losing 3-6 4-6? In case he won he could always pull a PimPim and retire from the tournament right after winning :D

But no, these days even Yani has haters in the General Misinformation on MTF.

Ward is having an amazing week. Even if this is on clay, his results this year should land him a Wimbledon MD WC.
