Juan's part of MAIN draw:

[1] Nadal vs BYE
Melzer vs Montanes
Kohlschreiber vs Almagro
Granollers vs [13] Cilic

[12] Ferrer vs Q
Lopez vs Monaco
Kunitsyn vs Ferrero
BYE vs [7] Verdasco

Granollers, who got MARCA WC, got in MD after a few more withdrawals and Juan got WC into the MD! :bigclap:

Yeah, I just saw the draw and that he got the WC :yippee:

Here's for a good start and a good tournament in Madrid :rocker2:

(He's totally surrounded by Spanish players on that part of the draw  )

Yeah, it is a tough draw but still.. the excellent 'ride' he had in Rome is still fresh, or should be still fresh so maybe it'll help a little. If only he could've gone further in Estoril ... :awww:

Don't know how much the voting helped him, but surely the withdrawals had a lot to do with it I think

Vamos Juan in Madrid :) He plays the night centre court match tomorrow at 8 pm.

Great match. :worship: First set - beautiful. In the second he struggled a bit, most of the times on his opponent’s serve. Managed to break him in the end and served for the match at 4-6, 5-6. He had one MP and it was all he needed, he made good use of it.

I’m attaching match stats for those interested. It was definitely a match worth seeing again. Pico produced some fabulous drop shots, also a lot of net action as well, including throwing himself after a ball
Next one David Ferrer.

Lots of BP, most of which wasted but no problem as long as Juan is not frustrated because of that.

Juan is 2-0 up against Ferrer on clay. He played some great tennis there! Hope he will make it again. :) Vamos, Juan!

Actually he was getting frustrated as the second set was ending, he kept trying to break Lopez and kept missing it. You could clearly see it on his face. It was a bit distressful to see that struggle but fortunately he did break Lopez.

I'm sure he's all focused on the next match :)

I've been following Pico for only a short time - since his match against Murray in Rome, to be more exact - and from what I've seen so far he doesn't strike me as the type of player who would remain stuck on a lost game or point. That's a good thing for him and I like that. I've been trying to follow his matches whenever possible and I can't believe how good of a player and what a fighter he is. Better late than never, I guess ;)

Easy win by Pico it seems 6-4 6-4. I haven't seen this one :( Match stats attached.

Did anyone get a chance to see this match and maybe do a little report or something like that?

Next stop : Verdasco. Third Spaniard in a row :rolls:

Sadly Juan lost 5-7, 2-6 :( The first set was very entertaining. Juan had lots of opportunities to win the set, he was up 5-3 and served for the match, but that service game was very bad. In the second set Fernando played very well (congrats to him!). Still, good tournament for Juan. He is ready for Paris :)

I loved Raul and his lovely kids in the stands, very cute :)

The second set was almost unbearable, despite the fact that he started it very well. Too bad that he got mad and lost his head a few times. At 4-2 the difference was a little too much to come back from (being led by one set already). Verdasco is a much improved player than he was when they last met, but I still think Juan could have won this one. He just made too many mistakes  He put up a good fight but Verdasco was better :sobbing:

Well, at least he made Verdasco work hard to earn his meeting with Nadal. I would have loved to see a Nadal - Monaco QF...

Vamos Pico :rocker2: Vamos Rafa :rocker2::devil:

Raul's kids : cute. People who come to the match in the middle of the second set : annoying :ras:

Juan is showing some good form in some of his matches (ex. Lopez and Ferrer) but is still having problems at times keeping on task and not getting nervous (the end of the first set against Verdasco).

I still think/hope if he plays to his potential he can get to at least the Ro16 at RG.

It is nice seeing him a bit more now that he is starting to get some better results again and not losing in the first or second round as he did after his problems last year. But after seeing a couple of matches with him at Rome and Madird - it always feels like the hotness quotient of a tournament goes down a bit once he exits.

Pico won 6-4 7-6. 2 hours of play. In the second set he came back from 2-4 and won it with a nice TB. Towards the end of the TB had a little chitchat with the umpire but stayed calm and finished it with style :)

first post here... sorry to jump in but i have a question... why did they replace pico with maximo gonzalez in the current match at dusseldorf? the stream i'm watching was jumping all over the place and i didn't catch what the commentator said. disappointed not to be able to watch pico and hoping there's no bad reason why he isn't playing.

edit: never mind. got the answer. injury :( i hope it's not too bad.

ATP website say "left wrist" is the reason.

Hopefully it's just precaution for RG, where he should peak :)

Polgara

Sorry, but it´s no precaution. He made a stupid movement when warming up for his match later, he showed it several times. It was something with his left wrist, I hope he will be fit for RG. I´ve uploaded some photos from this practising.

Today he had something like a bandage around his wrist. But it can´t bother him too much because he had a very long and pretty intensive practising session today and he´s bound to play tomorrow. So RG should be OK.

Thanks for the good news :). He's had that left wrist bandage in Madrid and before, maybe it's some precaution, something like Nadal's knees bandages .

Pico won his first round against Baghdatis, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in 1H56'. I saw only the second and the third set. Baghdatis played poorly, Pico was OK imo. No trouble from the left wrist, which is encouraging. He'll probably get better as he progresses in the tournament. :)

Tsonga was too good today and his first serves were killers. Poor Pico, in the fourth set I had a feeling he couldn't handle that force coming from Tsonga, it was too much... :sobbing: :sobbing:

Watched the whole match in Oz where I had to put up with the commies Wally Masur and some French ex player going on and on about Tsonga. Pico played pretty well just got out muscled in the end. He prolly could of won the first set as he did waste a lot of bp opportunities.

I did have Pico beating Tsonga and getting to the semis in the bracket challenge.

This is what happened indeed. He played pretty well but frustration got him eventually. And me too  No matter how hard he hit the ball, it came back harder from Tsonga. It was so annoying! He made mistakes but overall it was a good match, it's just that Tsonga was in a much better place. The crowd was really loud cheering for Tsonga and sometimes applauding Pico's slip ups :o Far away from the idea of sportsmanship. I'm glad Pico showed such class at the end. :worship:

You're so lucky to have Foxtel, I only have free-to-air and it's so crap that I can't even see one match of RG. And the time difference can be a killer if the matches are scheduled late too. Nowhere near as bad as US Open though

Aquarianbabe
06-01-2009, 02:17 PM
FF I've had Fox for a year and it is the best thing I have done and me being in the West matches start at 5pm so I at least get 6 hours of play in more on the weekend.

With Wimbly though, Fox only shows outside courts which is still great but they don't show the finals.
