I couldn't find the News thread so I started a new one ;)
Anyway, I was reading La Voz del Interior and they said that David
had this injury while pracising in Miami, but it wasn't something
serious. It got worse in Greece and it didn't let him serve. Now he's
gonna stay in Greece and be treated for his injury and will go to the
Usa on thursday.

Javier Maquirrian(doctor):“David tiene una distensión en el muslo izquierdo, que lo tiene molesto desde hace una semana. No es nada grave, pero no está para jugar.”
"David has a distention in the left thigh, that's been bothering him for a week. It's nothing serious, but he can't play".
I've been reading the news and apparently many directors are mad at him cause he didn't withdraw before and he couldn't be reaplced by another Argentinian. He didn't want to talk to the press either.

well do understand why he doesn't want to talk.. he really was looking forward to see this, and well then to cancle it. it must have been a hard decision.. so guess that is why he made it so late.. he wanted to try and failled..

I'm watching an interview with David right now and he said that he feels bad for not playing, especially since he is already there. That the circuit is too hard and believes that Paola Suarez can do well there. He didn't say anything else really and didn't mentioned the US Open.

poor David. i hope the media press won't be too hard to him. but could understand the directors are mad to him, coz he looks so healthy and happy in the opening ceremony, that it is difficult to believe he got injured in Miami.

Hi guys! I just watched another david interview in Athens and he said
that he has a 1cm distention in his left thigh and doubts that he'll
be ready for the US Open. But he's having fun there, he went to see
the female hockey team and tomorrow will be at the soccer match.

That is very sad news. I really want to see David at the USO. Though considering that the USO is around the corner, it might be good that he does not play in Flushing Meadows. Even if he feels healthier, he probably should not play because of the risk of prolonging or making the injury(ies) worse. It's really disappointing because this could have been "The Year" for David. Get better, luv!

Well i can understand to those directors and too i ´m with David, is difficult ....is sad that we don´t have now any chances to fight for the medal, and maybe Cañas could be there, but i guess that David really loves the chances to be there and play for Argentina, so maybe he didn´t mention this injury for get the chances to be in Athens....

Nalbandian is in doubt for the US Open
After withdrawing from the Olimpics just hours before playing the
first match, the Argentinian tennis player David Nalbandian-N°9 in
the Ranking- said that he doubts playing in the US Open, the last
grand slam of the year, that start at the end of August.

Nalbandian is in Athens, where hours before his debut decided not to
play because of an injury in the left thigh. "Today I don't know if
I'll be ready to play the US Open, because I have a distention in the
left thigh. I didn't play (in Athens) because I wasn't 100% ready. I
could have won one or two matches, maybe none, but I wasn't ready to
play for a medal", he said.

Nalbandian's decision caused bad mood among some directors of the
Argentinian Olympic Cometee, because he let Argentina with one less
chance of getting a medal, and also because his place could have been
replaced by another player, like Guillermo Cañas, for example.

In a statement for ESPN+, Nalbandian affirmed that "my coach, the
doctor and my physical trainer advised me not to play".

The tennis player pointed out that before friday he will go to New
York, where he will complete his recovery.

In this season, the cordobes barely played 8 tournaments. It was the
player that played the least tournaments among the best 50 in the
Champion's Race.

The injuries, from a year ago till now, were a lot. First, after the
US Open 2003, where he reached the SF, the tendonitis in the right
wrist that took him out of the Davis Cup against Spain and left him
out of the circuit for a month and a half.

At the beggining of 2004, Nalbandian, after playing the Davis Cup in
Morocco suffered a problem in the left ankle. He missed the ATP
Buenos Aires and the Master Series of Indian Wells and Miami, and the
Davis with Belarus.

After the SF in Roland Garros (where he lost to the Champion Gaston
Gaudio), el cordobes had an intercostal strain and missed Wimbledon,
and after, because of a bothering in his right elbow, lost quickly in
Toronto and didn't play Cincinnati.

David on Houston:
"Claro que sigo pensando en el Masters. Es mi objetivo de acá al final de la temporada. Si consigo buenos resultados en la gira indoor europea estoy adentro"
"Of course I'm still thinking about the Masters. It's my goal from now till the end of the season. If I get good results in the European indoor season, I'm in"

I hope he can make it, that would be a good way to close the season....
But i don´t think that he´ll play in Houston.....Henman , Hewitt and Marat are making good jobs, so at list that David win all the tournaments (thing that is really hard to make) he can´t rich nHouston right??? :(
Well let´s hope that in 2005 everything gets better for our boy.....

Think about it all you like David, get in shape and do whatever it takes to get fit and win matches.

novanora
09-08-2004, 04:56 PM
Whether he can go Houston or not, it's just depends on his performance in the European season, coz he has not many points to defend. however, think what he should consider first is not how to qualify Houson, but how to play every tournament well, step by step, mainly for recovering his state and fitness for the court again.

tell the truth, i don't much care if he can go Houston or not ;), i have seen how that place treated him last year, so think the good side if not entering. but, if he can't make it in 2005 TMC, i will be mad of course.....

I agree. David has plenty of other opportunities to play in a Masters - hopefully one in a place he prefers and where he gets treated better than he did in Houston. Winning a few matches (and yes - hopefully a tournament too), will do more for his confidence than a few matches in front of the ghastly Jim McIngvale

I hope he fully recovers from his injury problems and wins enough matches in the rest of the season to put himself in a good position for the beginning of next season and a good seeding at the Australian Open. Wouldn't it be great if he could put all the difficulties of this year behind him by taking the first slam of next year? :)

Hi guys! I just found out that David is nominated for best tennis player of the year. I must confess I didn't vote for him, but I'm sure you want to know about this ;)

I saw that. I think David has fainted from shock because he was even nominated. I guess I have to ask how that was, considering how shitty his year has turned out. Well, guess some people have all the luck.

I didn't vote (I probably can't), but if I could, no, I wouldn't vote for David; I'd vote for Gaston. Sorry for being the "dissident" here, but Gaston is a deserving candidate.

I actually agree with you Sigma - much as I love David he hasn't done enough this year to warrant this award. Gaston as a Grand Slam Champion would be a deserving winner I think. or perhaps Nicolas Massu for his Gold Medal triumph, as I see this poll is for Latin American players in general not just Argentines. And hey - can you imagine the bitter, twisted Coria trolls if Gaston wins :p ....off to vote for Gaston now I think............ :)

:haha: Brie cheese is too good to waste on Coria trolls though - most of them aren't old enough to appreciate it! Maybe mouldy cheddar and vinegar to replace the wine, would be more appropriate :) The vinegar would match their bitter natures

yeah its a little bit strange, with the RG Title from Gaston and the gold medals of Massu.. but well just saw this morning, he just has 3 percent.. and Massu has over the 50.. so guess its almost certain who will win...

OK, then, blue cheese and vinegar it is. No sense in wasting good money and good food on bitter people. They wouldn't appreciate it; besides, they would be like hogs to a trough and eat and drink it all in one sitting, rather than sit down and savor the taste.
