Rome R3: Zverev def Simon 6-4 6-1Action Jackson 04-30-2009, 05:30 PM Eaaaaaaasy. orangehat 04-30-2009, 05:31 PM the slump continues. :o Cloudygirl 04-30-2009, 05:32 PM Gillou's crap run continues. :( virex 04-30-2009, 05:32 PM tennis wins rofe 04-30-2009, 05:33 PM Intelligent tennis from Misha. Kept the ball deep and in play and made Simon commit errors. On his own serves, good 1st serve percentage and a good 1-2 punch. Amazing for a guy that is more comfortable playing aggressive tennis. Labamba 04-30-2009, 05:33 PM Zverev  Simon was really poor though Lee 04-30-2009, 05:33 PM Zvereve played very well and Simon just lost it in the 2nd set. No breakpoints at all for Mischa. jmsx521 04-30-2009, 05:33 PM At the end, the umpire held Zverev's hand and was chatting something to him.... Hmmmm! They are not friends, are they? Clay Death 04-30-2009, 05:33 PM Eaaaaaaasy. easy but the score is unexpected. i expected a better response from the Frenchie in the 2nd set. Zverev was masterful so all credit to him. he didnt buckle under the pressure of having to deal with a top 10 player. DartMarcus 04-30-2009, 05:33 PM Simon top 10 player :haha: very strong tennis era indeed :o tennisfan444 04-30-2009, 05:34 PM :( finishingmove 04-30-2009, 05:34 PM pleasantly surprised by zverev habibko 04-30-2009, 05:34 PM when I wanted Simon to come through the most he failed me :smash: :banghead: Berdych, PHM, and now Simon, can Zverev upset Fed? finishingmove 04-30-2009, 05:34 PM when I wanted Simon to come through the most he failed me :smash: :banghead: Berdych, PHM, and now Simon, can Zverev upset Fed? zverev can't lose. jmsx521 04-30-2009, 05:35 PM Simon's game doesn't really work on slow clay. Also, did anyone see him holding his knee in the second set: Maybe he got injured? green25814 04-30-2009, 05:35 PM Simon tried to ballbash  Stick to pushing man. Jimnik 04-30-2009, 05:35 PM Another great result for Zverev. :worship: Maybe he'll finally get some respect around here. He was far too solid for Simon and his serve was booming as usual. Add in a few volleys and it was a great all round performance. Jōris 04-30-2009, 05:35 PM Some good rallies in the first from both. Congrats to Zverev Jelena 04-30-2009, 05:35 PM Zverev got his dream. Will be interesting to read his blog tonight. :) Guy Haines 04-30-2009, 05:36 PM the slump continues. :o x2. Ouch. Damn. I'd wrongly thought Gilles had turned a corner yesterday. He was looking to his camp immediately after each error from start to finish. Something is definitely wrong. He's about to steal :confused: from those who seek Ferrer pics. Zverev looks good on clay. It's refreshing to see some players who have aggression/power and some net skills do well on clay. jonathancrane 04-30-2009, 05:38 PM Great win Mischa :bigclap: rafa_maniac 04-30-2009, 05:38 PM Wtf. Action Jackson 04-30-2009, 05:38 PM Zverev played smart tennis, gave Simon no pace at all and rallied when he had to, then when there was a chance to finish at the net, he took it. Excellent week for him irrespective of what happens tomorrow. habibko 04-30-2009, 05:38 PM Another great result for Zverev. :worship: Maybe he'll finally get some respect around here. He was far too solid for Simon and his serve was booming as usual. Add in a few volleys and it was a great all round performance. his moment of truth will be against Federer, lets see what he got there  mikkemus23 04-30-2009, 05:39 PM Very impressing. He will rise even further during clay season. I think this is enough to give Roger serious trouble, serious indeed. Jimnik 04-30-2009, 05:40 PM Q1 def Ramirez-Hidalgo 6-2 6-3 Q2 def Ferrero 6-7 6-4 7-5 R1 def Berdych 4-6 6-2 7-5 R2 def Mathieu 3-6 7-6 6-0 R3 def Simon 6-4 6-1 And the funny thing is the markets had him as underdog against Ramirez-Hidalgo. Puschkin 04-30-2009, 05:41 PM Simon's game doesn't really work on slow clay. Also, did anyone see him holding his knee in the second set. Yes. He was not great before, but after that he was just poor. Can well be a physical problem. But very solid from Zverev. totenkopf 04-30-2009, 05:42 PM Zverev didnt just play well. He played phenomenal. Lets just hope he can keep it up against federer. TMJordan 04-30-2009, 05:43 PM Surprising. Corey Feldman 04-30-2009, 05:45 PM Who is this mug morningglory 04-30-2009, 05:46 PM when I wanted Simon to come through the most he failed me :smash: :banghead: Berdych, PHM, and now Simon, can Zverev upset Fed? No. GlennMirnyi 04-30-2009, 05:49 PM Awesome. Zvereve is probably the most talented of the youngsters. Ilovetheblues_86 04-30-2009, 05:51 PM Who is this mug Gilles Simon, the mug. Truc 04-30-2009, 06:10 PM Simon's game doesn't really work on slow clay. He's pathetic regardless of the surface atm, don't judge his clay game on his current awful form. Clay actually is his favourite surface. He's won 3 out of his 5 titles on clay. (And Rome isn't slow, but he doesn't mind slow clay at all, on the contrary, he liked Hamburg.) scarecrows 04-30-2009, 07:17 PM the slump continues. :o what slump, this his ordinary level, his couple of fluke runs last year were the surprising part MalwareDie 04-30-2009, 07:22 PM what slump, this his ordinary level, his couple of fluke runs last year were the surprising part Seconded. Ciarán. 04-30-2009, 07:48 PM :spit: tealeaves 04-30-2009, 07:49 PM Simon  heya 04-30-2009, 07:56 PM Simon's better than everyone in the top 10. Blake and Verdasco are not far behind! Federer was smacked by Simon.... Just in case you don't know, Sampras should be thrown a faint praise bone, if there's no post that could make Federer look greater, in a Simon thread. This era's strong! alfonsojose 04-30-2009, 07:59 PM Counterpouchers who lack of pace on their shots suffer on clay  miura 04-30-2009, 08:02 PM Simon's better than everyone in the top 10. In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. Poetry is the exact opposite. Horatio Caine 04-30-2009, 08:41 PM what slump, this his ordinary level, his couple of fluke runs last year were the surprising part Ugh, poor result for Simon, even if Zverev can be a tricky (and unpredictable) opponent at the best of times. Needs to get his form together pretty sharpish. :awww: Spes 04-30-2009, 08:48 PM Mischa :worship: :worship: Geo 04-30-2009, 09:08 PM Zverev is playing well and having a great week, but this was a pathetic display from Simon  For someone who wins matches by not making mistakes, he sure was making loads of mistakes today, especially on the forehand side. In the 2nd set he was playing junior tennis :tape: :o Not sure what's going on with him this year but he's certainly no where near the level he was at last year. :o StanisKing 04-30-2009, 09:33 PM Zverev the new GOAT. Overtaking the crown from King Oscar. bobbynorwich 04-30-2009, 09:39 PM Zverev is 21. Where has he been all these years? Guy Haines 04-30-2009, 10:31 PM He's pathetic regardless of the surface atm, don't judge his clay game on his current awful form. Clay actually is his favourite surface. Truc: :wavey: Bad days. What do you think is going on? ArgieFan 04-30-2009, 10:37 PM I love misha's style, hope he beats Federer... Sommarsverige 04-30-2009, 10:38 PM I was happy for Misha :) Since I follow his blog regularly I got really interested in that guy and it makes me happy that he reached his best result ever this week in Rome :) (no matter what happens in the next match...) luie 04-30-2009, 10:46 PM Clay is not for pushers. roberthenman 05-01-2009, 12:34 AM SImon :confused::confused: malisha 05-01-2009, 12:39 AM great result always good too see Simon losing...Zverev playes smart tennis good week for the German:yeah: LinkMage 05-01-2009, 12:54 AM Some of the worst top 10 players ever: Wawrinka, Simon, Mugfils, Boredo. Arkulari 05-01-2009, 01:42 AM I don't think Wava is THAT bad, at least he has had a couple decent clay seasons and even if I dislike Robredo, the man at least got a MS win ;) the worst top 10? of the last times: Simon and Monfils HattonWBA 05-01-2009, 08:39 AM Zverev moves great and tactically was awesome out there, ive seen him play a lot but this was much better than previous times based on his ability to pack more weight of shot from the baseline, keep improving mischa HeretiC 05-01-2009, 11:38 AM Yonex rules. :rocker: rocketassist 05-01-2009, 11:56 AM Strongest era ever, definitely. :haha: Kolya 05-01-2009, 12:00 PM :haha: ORGASMATRON 05-01-2009, 12:00 PM Some of the worst top 10 players ever: Wawrinka, Simon, Mugfils, Boredo. Stan is a good top 10, he will be bakc there soon probably. Merton 05-01-2009, 12:25 PM Excellent tournament for Zverev here. :yeah: JBdV 05-01-2009, 12:39 PM He's pathetic regardless of the surface atm, don't judge his clay game on his current awful form. Clay actually is his favourite surface. He's won 3 out of his 5 titles on clay. (And Rome isn't slow, but he doesn't mind slow clay at all, on the contrary, he liked Hamburg.) Those 3 clay titles weren't exactly of a very high standard to be honest, Bucharest twice and Casablanca. I still think he is a better hardcourter than claycourter, although I'm not saying this is why he has performed so badly this clay season so far, something is clearly not right with him.
