Seppi at least played a decent 2nd set, though missing that forehand at 30-0 up in the game he lost serve, was poor.

The Toad is up next.

yeah the bottles incident was the highlight of the match, especially considering it happened right after the point of the match.

it would be fantastic if someone could make a gif of that.

Solid match by Nadal. He served much better than in Montecarlo and Barcelona.
Next match he will badly kick stupid Soderling's arse.

Rafa played an excellent match :bigclap: Very few UE and good net play. The point to break Seppi in the 2nd was magic.

BTW all those pics "63 62 if I play an awful game" are already very boring and soooo unoriginal

I wonder what's the real story behind Nadal and his bottles.

I always believed that it was his way of thinking though his matches. With a touch of OCD.

Good match, babe! Crush Soderling tomorrow! I don't want another upset. Andy was enough!

Good solid match for Nadal: the serving was better than it's been lately, and the open-stance crosscourt backhand looked magnificent. Nice to see him not killing himself to get to those wide forehands, too. His side of the draw is opening up quite nicely.

He shouldn't have a hard time motivating himself to play Mr. Toad :p

Nadal is clearly giving the backhand a different role in his game now. A lot of times when he would have run around it to hit the forehand up the line or inside out crosscourt he's now opting to hit the flat backhands crosscourt.

I guess I was expecting him to slip back into his old topspin-forehand-or-bust game in clay season but instead it looks like he's using these matches as a means to practice things that will help his game on other surfaces.

Gracious Federer's head-to-head records mean so much in the weak-assed 2000-2007 period.

But, somehow they could live without getting run over by buses.

Too bad that some people can't accept that Nadal is a great player and appreciate a good sportsman and athlete when they see one. Wonder when you watch a great soccer player or football player if your lack of knowledge about the sport makes you not appreciate what they do on the field.

The world is full of ignorant people. Nadal is most likely the best clay court tennis player there has ever been and it is a shame that people can't accept that fact and get over their dislike of him.

I am not a Federer fan by any means but I never once said he wasn't a good player........

The crowd was being quite restless throughout the match and the umpire several times asked to hold up play. Hope this helps :)

Does anyone else notice how flat his forehand is? I know this has been discussed a lot recently, but I have really been able to see it in his past few matches. His forehand looks incredible. It is flatter than I have ever seen it. He almost looks like a different player. His movement also looked great today as well as his backhand. His serve looked the best it had in quite a while; there is still room for improvement there though, and he will as he needs/chooses to. If he can continue playing like this I can't wait for the rest of the season.

I am starting to think that his poor play in Miami may have been due to the changing of the grip on his forehand. Perhaps that was the first tournament that he played with the new grip.

In any case, he looks to be in devastating form *again*. Roland Garros seems to be a formality at this point; I can't wait for Wimbledon and beyond though! :armed:

Spot on! Yes, the forehand is flatter and last night they were making a comparison between Nadal of 2009 and Nadal from an old match with Coria. The movement now doesn't make the full circle, therefore the topspin is not as fierce. Good improvement which requires less of his energy and makes him more suitable to other surfaces.

Regarding Miami, I have no clue what was wrong with him.

No, no, no. Please stick to the general criteria: Nadull is a one-dimensional moonballer that can't improve his game. In fact, he has no game other than topspinning his opponents to boredom.

rafa_maniac
04-30-2009, 03:55 PM
Flatter it may be, but the forehand is still landing too short in the court when he hooks it cross court. It's something I really noticed against Seppi as Seppi was moving forward and smacking the backhand down the line off this shot quite often. Obviously Nadal is way too good for Seppi, but a player like Djokovic could really take advantage of this strategy (and did in MC to some extent).

You can watch his matches over and over to see he takes the time for the crowd to get quiet... (Indeed I believe umpires know the rules better than both of us ;) )
