NID. Although it is only Tsonga on clay it is still a good win for Richie. He was the more versatile player, dominating rallies, taking the risks, charging the net, very good mental composure on BP he faced (saved 7/7). Ones who will say that he doesn't have guts should go and...you know the drill...

Tsonga is just saving himself for RG so he can end Rafa's winning streak there.

Absolutely, Tsonga and Blake will fight for the title in the RG final.

Rome is too fast for Tsonga, he prefers real clay.

Well said :worship: agree with all (especially the "you know the drill" part).

was just Tsonga on clay but after Richie's disaster last week it's nice to see him hang tough and beat a Top 10 player being aggressive and showing his variety.

Now take it to Ernie!:worship:

No umpire changing good line calls to bad calls outside of Paris? Poor charismatic Ali Jr.

tsonga would've won this with a few practise matches under his belt.

I’m not around here often enough nor am I quick enough to start a Results thread, but if I were I‘d like to start one wherein Gasquet loses that says: “Tsonga (or whoever) blows a Gasquet, defeats Richard”

Although knowing this place, it's probably been done.

gosh, how bad did Tsonga play? :help:
Richie isn't in his best form right now, even if he's more than a decent clay-courter when on

I don't know if anybody else heard it but I was watching on Sky interactive and heard some people in the crowd make what sounded like ape noises at Jo and whistling when he was trying to serve. Absolutely sickening and disgusting. Jo did turn to the crowd at one point and say "stop it" in French. I think this is why Jo probably played as he did. He was not himself today and as much as I love to see a win for Richie, I don't under circumstances like these.

Congrats to Richard, certainly did not see this coming. I'm disappointed to hear that the crowd was mean to Jo.

Pretty much like he always plays on clay against aggressive players or when someone steals the net from him: relies solely on his serve and some limited defensive skills.

Of course, the reason Tsonga lost was because of the fans making noises, not because Gasquet outclassed him and has outclassed him a couple of times in recent years now. :)

Jo did look out of sorts but it just might have had something to do with his opponent, playing on clay, etc. Jo was just upset he couldn't get the crowd going to fire him up and do his dance. But I actually heard the crowd cheering for both and overall seemed fair, of course there could be a few bad apples that I didn't hear. I think Simon had to deal with a lot worse playing Fabio today. If Jo is going to be the French Davis Cup hero he'll have to deal with a lot worse.

I did not say that exactly, I meant that I think it more than likely affected Jo and how he played, I think that sort of thing would affect any player. I really don't get you because you have acted like Richie21's love child on GM in the past and then have come on Richard's boards and made utterly derogatory comments about him and now you are defending Richard as if he is beyond reproach. Richard played quite well yesterday and Tsonga did not, but it wasn't as if Richard was utterly brilliant yesterday was it?
