Could This Be The Year...

...that Rafa plays his first 5-set match at Roland Garros? Right now, his is not inspiring in me alot of confidence. There's Rome and Madrid next before RG, right? So, he has two more tournies to get back in the clay groove. I really, really, hope he does. I want so badly for him to tie Borg's consecutive record.

I don't mind if he loses a set, I just want him to win.

Unsurprising

Confidence! And there is plenty of time left before RG for him to do that.

Just checked. Rafa lost a total of 7 sets in 28 matches of RG he played.....

Wow! That's a helluva record! Thanks!

Sure it can happen.

Still, he'd win a five setter based on fitness alone.

christallh24
04-25-2009, 11:27 PM
That is most likely true, Pfloyd. It just that if it happens, I dread all the Rafa haters predicting the end of his career by the end of the season.

Oh, and hello to a fellow South Floridan!

:wavey: neighbor!

Well, to be brutally honest, given the way Nadal uses so much of his physical energy, if he "only" gets 7 slams, that's a hell of a career.

Sure, it may not be Federer big, but Nadal has so many records, he already is a legendary player.

I'm not saying this is at all going to happen, but IF it does, he still is one hell of a player.

Anyway playing the way he is now which is below average is still many times superior than Federer's current level and I'm confident he'll play better later on, you can't expect perfection every tournament.

Yep. Most players could only dream of having as many slams as Rafa does currently.

...but Nadal has so many records, he already is a legendary player.

Right, right.

Couldn't agree more!

Rafa is slightly below his average, but maybe it's too early to judge he or Roger's level and form.

Perfection? Oh, I'm no 2004-07 era Fedtard that expected perfection and "artistry" at every turn. I accept Rafa just as he is.

This thread title needs to be re-titled ASAP to: "Rafa is in terminal decline. OMG!!!"

Oh, stop it! I do not think Rafael is in any decline. But, I am a realistic person that realizes that he is human and him being taken to a 5-sets is bound to happen sooner or later.

You're being a little alarmist. Nadal is just moving through the gears, pacing himself and ensuring he holds something back for coming weeks. Your original post all but states he has yet to find form on the dirt this year. I saw his semi against Davydenko and it was routine after he overcame some opening, shaky service games.

If anything this kind of talk just undermines his achievements, and if he gets a splinter in his right index finger we don't need to hear about it.

christallh24
04-26-2009, 12:49 AM
Okay, BaselineSmash, I'll yield and admit that I'm a worrier. You and ClayDeath, I think it was, make alot of sense about him maybe pacing himself. No, this tournament isn't one he's required to excert himself.

I don't want to get into any disagreements. Especially, with fellow Rafa fans, but I don't think saying that eventually he'll be taken the distance is undermining his acheivements.

Those splinters, you mentioned, believe me I'll never complain about a splinter. I might "Aww, poor baby!" over his blisters, but not splinters, lol. Truce?

To an extent I can understand why Nadal's fans fret so much over everything in his game, even after all he's achieved. Provided you appreciate how exceptional he is (love him or hate him), I reckon you have the right to nitpick a little. But the claycourt season is not the time for all this hyper-anxiety.

No,this couldn't be the "Year".Maybe in 2011 u can ask the same question...

Not inspiring? What the hell?Win easily in MC(1 tough match against Djoko),win easily all of his matches in Barca.
U want for him to win all matches 6-0,6-0,90% first serve,10 Aces,0 DouFault,30/2 Winners/UnErr,15/15 Net,10/10 break points??:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Rome,U can look at the draw:
Easy 2nd,3rd round.
Quarters against Verdasco maybe.Definetely not a challenge...
Semi against Murray,Davydenko...
Final:Maybe this will hard for him

Madrid:Home tourney,like barca,and new.Here anything can happen. :p

RG:Who can win 3 set against him !!!in one match!!!? :)

Thank you. It's how I stay grounded and resist the urge to become a Rafatard.

But the claycourt season is not the time for all this hyper-anxiety.

Hyper-anxiety...be gone ye devil, lol. Seriously, though, you are right. I'll keep my concern to myself.

Wtf does the guy have to do to be "convincing" on clay? Dish out a bagel every set he plays?

In two tournaments so far he's dropped one set and had what, one other tight set? I mean it's borderline ridiculous when people come on here saying Nadal looks "shaky" or some other BS.

I'm not even a Nadal fan but come on people.
