Why are people surprised by this result?
I said few months ago that Gasquet was finished for tennis and his results have only been proving me right since then.

So true. And I don't see how he can blame the shoulder when he served 14 aces.

Whatever is broke with Richie needs fixing and quickly.

He had a nice win over Hernych, 1st couple of games back on the clay, bound to be abit rusty.

Look at what happened to monfils and simon in monte carlo

Well, Christophe was a semi-finalist in Hamburg in 2005. He's shown isolated patches of quality on the surface.

That said, Gasquet did crush him in that semi-final...

Good history check :) 2005 was Gassy's clay golden year with that win over Federer at Monte.

Gasquet should take a damn break from tennis

:haha: i think he is! didn 't he just lose?

as for a longer break my crystal ball tells me that that is foreseeable too!
anyone as bad as gasquet is right now need not worry about a vacation

i just cant believe a player can actually play much worse as he ages, but gasquet is proving a lot of people wrong

Especially not around those years!
I mean,he is probably the only pro male player i can remember whose level of play has gotten worse from 18 to 22(years where you are supposed to improve).
Incomprehensible.

On the other hand,C.Rochus seems to have improved from 26 to 30(he got destroyed by Gasquet in 2005)

The scoreline would be the same but Gasquet at least can play a couple nice backhands against anyone, Rochus can't.

Wow, I find most of the people in this thread very disrespectfull to C. rochus.
He gets soooo much flack on this forum

Sure, he's not the best player in the wordl.
but have most of you actually seen him play?
If he plays well, he's extremely versatile, and does well for someon of his "posture".
i'm not too keen on his "attitude" either, but you gotta hand it to him:
At his age, he has won several good matches in recent months.
Mayeb he deserves some credit, once in a while?

too bad for gasquet. he seems to struggle with himself for quite some time now.

Ok, maybe he can be entertaining when he play against... I don know, Soderling, Santoro, and some other players. The guy has no weapons to be a competitor for the best players, completely different story with his brother. Olivier in good shape was able to play equal matches with the best players, enough to say he had match point against Nadal and Federer, played also very tight 4-setter against Safin when the Russian won the Aussie Open. Christophe in some match ups is just a waste of time for spectators. He isn't even a good training session for Nadal who will play another match with completely different opponent.

i dont know if u ever saw the 1st round match of nadal at the 2009 aussie open, if u didnt, i will tell u! it was nadal vs christoph rochus, and nadal was manhandling him gruesomely!!! christoph looked like a boy up aggainst a man!
rochus couldnt even handle the power of nadal and i felt sorry for rochus! the final 2 points of that match nadal smashed 2 flat and fast forehands that was like 180km/h forehands! i tell u it was a slaughter, go watch that match to see why u can bet ur life savings for nadal to win his next match!

Hingis defeated venus 6-1 6-1 LOL and look what happened?

Venus is the Federer of the WTA. Lucky escapes on grass. Hope your opponents are too fat or short to beat you on all surfaces. Look at Davenport (Roddick, Rochus, Soderling, Mary Pierce, Seles, Henin).

True, perhaps playing a solid defender like Rochus might have been more difficult for him, having been away for weeks...but, really, it isn't like Rochus is a world-beater.

Yeah, Simon was apparently horrendous in Monte Carlo, but Monfils was injured (knees) which doesn't make that particular result a surprise.
