Don't let them stow your bananas in the luggage area! They run over suitcases sometimes with their little airport vehicles, and you'll have a puree! And the fruit can freeze in the cargo bay. You don't want a banana split. It's worth the price to buy two seats, one for you and one for your bananas. And put the lil' bananas in a window seat, as they will ripen in the sunlight and dance with great glee at the stunning views of the prairie.

In America with a short sighted bastard at the helm we have a real lack of looking at the long term, the bigger picture & have done absolutely nothing in the way of trying to find the root of terror and why people feel the way they do toward us, not that terrorist & the like need to be understood, but why are we now in the business of creating more & MORE people who feel like they have no option but to resort to seething hate & terrorist tactics:sobbing::sobbing::hysteric:it a bad cycle & the world already sux enough.

I don't think the war or whoever is in charge is to blame why the world hates americans. Even without a war, they hated us. They hate us because that"s what they are taught, to hate america, and are not educated enough on the rest of the world.

yes but when people live with war in the streets everyday, something we could never conjure...they don't need to be taught anything, it becomes an ingrained feeling and hostility...it would make me quite emotional.

if you want to fight something as big and broad as a "war on terror" you have to find the multiple causes and fight them too not just fight the effects.

The problem with the Iraq war is that it has just turned into a big mess with no real solution. If someone had a reasonable solution that would be effective, it would already have been implemented. Nobody can overly criticize Bush's original action following 9/11, something needed to be done. Just look at who is viewed as possibly the worst president we've ever had, James Buchanan. Why? Because he did everything he possibly could to keep the status quo and avoid a civil war. He didn't do much during his presidency as a result.

My point is that while Bush is easy to blame for the current situation, he had to do something following 9/11. That's not to say that he did the right thing, but now that we're involved there are no easy solutions.

No more politics for me

I know Americans are a nice bunch, always liked them and stuck up for them and feel that they are viewed on harshly by the world.

I prefer Democrats but I feel Bush as much as I'm not a fan, is nowhere near in the league Saddam's in. Those who say he's worse also hate the Democrats, so really no one will stop the USA being hated the way it is.

Why wouldn't it work? Of course there's going to be an x amount refractory period if/when it passes but you already see hybrids out there and alternative fuel technology just starting on the rise. I understand the tax on the oil producers will ultimately be a tax burden on us but I guess as a driver of a gas guzzler I don't mind the little extra pinch now if it means possible viable alternatives, especially if it means more environmentally friendly energy sources. :p I guess we'll have to agree to disagree :) ...or at least with your dad. :p

Yep, it's a real congressional race up here. A pretty nasty one too. 10+ year Republican incumbent (Doolittle) with ties to Abramoff and other questionable activities against an Air Force vet whose son is in Iraq right now. It's been fun. Charlie Brown could very well win, but the district is so Republican, he would probably lose the next time around.

I'll be voting against 87 too. I like the idea, but that kind of money must have accountability behind it and this one has way too many fingers in the pot in my opinion.

What is it with American elections these days? Without fail, they are nailbiters! :scared: I love it. For me personally, the academic/historical side of it is more interesting and more important to me than the practical results. I doubt that the House (and maybe the Senate) turning blue will really make that much of a difference, especially considering so many of these candidates are so very similar on many of the biggest issues, it's just fascinating from an academic perspective  :geek: :p

Well if the Assembly thing doesn't work out, perhaps I can move to London and work for my cousin...

Joanie is alive! Have you started teaching yet or did you just move in?

I just moved in, I got here Wednesday afternoon. We're having a long weekend because of Rememberance day, so I start teaching on Tuesday. I'm staying at a residence for kids with 'leadership skills' and the kids here are really friendly and they were pretty excited to see me. The weather is already averaging -10 C and it's still fall... I dread winter.

Today is a pretty good day, I went out for a walk with the other volunteer (his name is Nick) and we went past the dog kennels and watched the guy who breeds and trains these racing dogs hook them up to his atv to go out for a ride. Those dogs are extremely hyper and they make an ungodly amount of noise.

How's everyone else doing? I see Amber's pictures from Hawaii... sun, sand and a marked absence of snow. :sobbing:

Hey everyone

I already told Deb about my latest late night adventure...but I'll give you guys a summary too: So a few of my friends and I may or may not have "cleaned up" the election signs around town and stuck them in our government teacher's yard. There were over 15 huge signs "decorating" his yard. It was beautiful.

Amber, you look gorgeous!

I just now finished watching an episode of "Unwrapped" on the Food Network that was all about LA foods. And one of the features was Sprinkles Cupcakes. I immediately thought of you.
They sure did look good.

The other places the show covered were Fatburgers, the Pig 'n Whistle, and some bakery at the farmer's market (I forget the name) that makes pink elephant cakes. Do you also endorse those places? This is very important just in case I ever make it to LA so I know where to go eat.

What is funny is that under the name of each person they interviewed, they described what the person did, so like for Sam donaldson it was "news reporter" or something like that, right? So they had a couple of linguists in the movie and under those people's names they were titled under their name "a cunning linguist"
