The UK really is expensive to live compared to North America.

Yes, not only because of the currency exchange, but the clothes and food... they're more expensive. I mean, compared to Spain and some other countries in Europe, it was.

London was my least favorite. Having lived in New York City and grown up near Boston; I found London just like any other big city EXCEPT for the sights. They were great but I don't think I could live there. I enjoyed NYC when I lived there but I knew it was for a short period of time.

Hey hey hey. London is a great city and needs to be explored. It's the most cultural city in the world and there is only one other city comparable which is Paris. If you only walk through the touristic parts, that's not London.
This place is full of things to do, places to go (a lot of them are free if compared to museaums in other cities!), musicals, concerts, plays (even Hollywood comes here to do cheap theater), fashion, food (you might not believe but London became one of the best places to eat in the last 10 years), buildings, libraries, schools, the people, everything is full of history. NY might be great but it's a very new city compared to London and it doesn't have half of the culture London has.

Besides weather and terrorists, it's a fantastic place.

So my mother has decided she had to become the cheapest person in the world. I have to perform in front of like, 1500 people in 10 days and she's telling me I shouldn't have signed up to sing and dance because now she has to buy the stuff to like, have a costume. The one I'm doing is a Chicago song, I'm singing it and I've told her a thousand times what I was thinking about doing, but she won't listen and like, she doesn't understand. And she keeps telling me to grab things that I already have that have NOTHING to do with what I want. And for the other ones I just need black pants and a white shirt. (which she'd have to buy for me anyways cos I have a project a few days afterwards and I have to wear that.) So we had a big fight and like, I was already feeling nervous about this whole thing, but damn, now I'm 100% sure I'll look like crap and will come out awful.

I should just tell my profesor I'm not doing anything or something like that.

So I decided Halloween was coming a wee bit early this year. Momma Spook showed up, snuck up and I still can't figure out if I heard screams of delight or horror. NY might be great but it's a very new city compared to London and it doesn't have half of the culture London has.

I disagree with the assumption that older cities necessarily have more culture. London has a longer history than New York has, but the diversity of the New York population and its identity as a center for the arts, intellectuals and business has led to an individuality and richness of culture that rivals the other major world cities. Plus 350 years is still plenty of time to acquire an interesting history. ;)

Nothing against London, though, a city I greatly enjoyed living in for a few weeks.

 Yeah, same here. ;)

Same here Q, only 25% of London is actually English. I still think London wins over NY on the same grounds you have just listed above and I'm not English either. :)

But I did get pnemonia trying cuz all I had was a Harry Potter scarf! No coat! We had dinner at the Cheesecake Factory both nights and I'm in love with it. We went to a lot of bars. On Saturday we pretty much just chilled in the Quincy Market area since that's where Craig was. Friday we just ran around the city looking at everything like lame little tourists... and we did the whales on Friday too, or tried to see them. We went to the aquarium both Friday & Saturday cuz Steven and I are nerds and like to look at the animals . That's about it nothing too crazy.... BUT CRAIG FERGUSON IS MY LOVE. The aquarium is soooooo great!!!!!!!!!! I especially love the penguins and the sealion exhibit! :inlove: Quincy Market used to be a lot cooler than it is now b/c all the big chains came in and took over. there used to be more of the fun cool little places and carts and now it's like GAP and Disney Store, but it's still cool :)

The Cheesecake Factory is in so many cities now, you'll get to one someday.

Mary, you nut, sounds like you had a great time.

My tournament is over, but I have a head cold to remember it by (hooray...) and a little hug from Amer today (Amer is lovely).

That earthquake in Hawaii this morning was 10 miles away or so from Jan-Michael's house, but I just spoke to him and he's okay. He sounds a little bit stressed, but being thrown out of bed by violent shaking can do that to a person... (I grew up in So Cal, so I've been through this before, specifically the very big Northridge/Santa Monica quake in 1994).

Wow, I never thought my fun weekend would end up getting everyone pissed at me. I didn't know where anything was being as I've only been there once before when I was like 12. So I just went around where my friends took me to. Take it up with them if they took me to the wrong places. We only even ate meals three times, the rest of the time we were just drinking our asses off. It's not like we were there for a week. We were there for like a day and a half. Sorry to disappoint everyone by not eating at the places I was supposed to but the only places I remembered being told that I should hit up before I left were the Cheesecake Factory, the aquarium, and the duck pond. And I got to all of them but the pond... Next time I go to Boston which will be in either December or January I promise I will hit up every place y'all want me to. Make me a list, and I'll gain 50lbs eating everywhere that is neat. :p

Thanks Deb. It was somewhat sudden. She's had heart problems, in 5th grade she had a heart infection that somehow increased the size of her heart and caused it to beat irregularly, among other things. She was scheduled to have a pacemaker put in on Wednesday but it happened in the middle of her birthday party, while I was at my aunt's viewing, and her dad had to give her CPR. They actually had to use the defibulator (sp?) to get her heart going again. The latest report is that she's only somewhat responsive...this day has been just awful.

They're burning down the oil palm plantations (mainly) to get ready for the new season, and it has been happening every year, for the past 10 years. And we're talking about thousands of acres of plantations - and this whole thing continues for months... Coupled with the start of the monsoon season, it just has bad news written all over it.

Our (Malaysia & Singapore) governments have stopped doing anything about it, although they have the responsibility to do something about it. Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore are worst because of the 'city jungle, where the sky-scrapers basically traps the smoke within the lower layer of atmosphere. It's not that bad here, where I am, but it's still causing people loads of health issues (flu, headaches, etc.) It's just all round sickening, really...

And, I've learnt this from my sister - apparently, South East Asian countries had all agreed and signed a treaty (?) years ago, citing that all countries will co-operate and keep this region as pollution free as possible. BUT - Indonesia didn't sign it, so they aren't "part of the deal". So, apparently, nothing can be done about what they do :(

It's just crazy, really... Haze problem happens all year round, but this time of the year is the 'peak' and it's just suffocating everyone...

The only thing that can clear the haze is rain - loads of rain... What our government used to do was plant rain seeds, and that costs huge load of money... I don't think they're going to do that continuously for a few months to get rid of the haze problem...

Some years are better than others. This year just seems to be really bad. With the world weather changing its pattern, although we're expecting loads of rain by this time of the year, it hasn't really been happening :( Strong winds, yes - heavey rain, no

Hey! Thanks again for the support...

I don't have much of an update but I did talk to my friend's cousin today. For some reason when it happened they were unable to contact an ambulance for about 30 minutes, fortunately her dad had just learned CPR just in case something happened. She was set to go into the hospital Monday for the surgery, it happened the day before. She's on a ventilator but is somewhat able to breathe on her own, and her kidneys and liver are functioning. That means that she might not have brain damage, they're waiting until tomorrow to see. So there is hope :)

Phew;)Ever since my dad retired many years ago, which gave him more time to coupon clip and stuff, he would give away anything we wouldnt use to the local pantry. Even if there was something on sale that we'd never use, if he had a coupon and could get it for nothing or next to nothing, he would just get it and give it away :) He jokingly compared it to being like Robin Hood - except that his "stealing" was legal through sales and double coupons and the like

The dad of one of the girls on the tennis team has a heart attack Friday and died. Man, this is a morbid tennis season.

I've been having an awful tennis season anyway. Today, third set, I was down 0-4 and came back to 5-4 and at deuce (we have that sudden death thing on deuce :o) I ran and got a drop shot, so I'd lost my footing. Then I got a stab volley but my foot got stuck and I slipped and fell, rolling my ankle and scraping up my knee and hand pretty well. Then I lost in a tiebreaker, my ankle is swollen and my knee and hand is bleeding. What fun. This physical shit just adds to the mental issues I have right now. :o

Don't they make the cloud heavy, that may be the way it triggers rain over time.

i don't really love the idea of seeds of chemicals planted into our clouds...that sounds super healthy.

lol...ALL HAIL MULTI QUOTE!

renee's pretty much said it all. it's a yearly event, for the farmers in indonesia to clear the land just before the next planting season to prepare the fields for the next year. the haze comes around pretty much every year but the last time it was this bad was in 1997. we haven't quite reached 1997 levels yet this year and hopefully we won't. the reason why it gets so bad is because the elements all seemed to coincide this year, meaning wind direction blahblahblah so it all comes right at us and peninsula malaysia and to a certain extent, southern thailand

why do they keep doing it? well for one, it's the fastest and cheapest way to clear the land, especially if you're a poor farmer and the latter reason if you're a company (big or otherwise) that's cheapskate. it could also be due to a lack of education and of course, a lack of control by the authorities that be. I was reading a news article the other day where they interviewed one such poor farmer who was aware that his burning practices would pollute the air in his environment (duh! he's living in it! lol and had to send his family to a relative in another village because his kids were having breathing problems) but was deeply shocked when told that the wind had carried it all around the region.

so yep..that's about the whole story. it's expected to last a few more weeks. we had a couple of HUUUGGEEE GLOORRIIIOOOUUSSSSS thunderstorms last week that cleared things up for a while. but the last couple of days have been pretty still and humid and blah.

The chemical reaction speeds up the process of making the clouds heavy. I don't know if it's as hazardous to health, as the haze is... But it's no longer being done.

*Sigh* :o

oooh oooh! cloud seeding...uhm. had to google it because i wasn't sure how to explain it ezackly...i think malaysia used it this year to fight the haze in KL and there's a rumour that we do it every year just before national day so that it won't rain on our party on national day lol

I'm so sorry.

Get better soon  because I still need to an autograph and take fanboy pics with you.
