Looking forward to tomorrow! It's "de Lokerse feesten" (kinda festival) and DAVID BYRNE is coming

Missed his concert in Athens 3 weeks ago. According to the press critics it has been the best concert so far this summer... for some reason, this song has been stuck in my head for this week...

Whereabouts is it located? Open air discos, they can be fun, though you might need more than the usual fuel to get you through.

He choked again, serving a double fault on match point, probably a good thing cause Davydenko was awesome against Melzer.

I'm just here for the month as my parents rented an apartment, then I'm moving to Dortmund. I've got many good friends in Benicarlo. Current Valencian players in the top ten: Ferrer, Ferrero (Ferrer means "smith" and Ferrero is just a corruption of Ferrer), Ramirez Hidalgo, Gimeno Traver.

Valencian and Catalan are the same language. It's just we speak a different variety or dialect than Catalans, but I have no big problems communicating with Catalans just speaking Valencian. Actually not all Catalans speak the same dialect. Eastern Catalan, Western Catalan, Valencian and Balearic, those are the four main dialects. Differences are basically pronunciation and some words, but the base is the same. The grammar and spelling rules are the same for everyone, but local differences are standard in the respective areas of course. It's basically political separation causing a unified language to diverge. You should know about that as a Scandinavian.

Dortmund, you working for a brewery or are you going to do some study here? Gimeno Traver is a cool guy, he supports Los Ches, you can tell he liked Moya when he was growing up. Worst of all he copied Moya's forehand, he has choked too many times, especially against Troicki at Wimbledon.

Is it true about Nadal's Catalan? Someone was bagging his English and one of Catalan speaking friends said, well he speaks like Catalan like that, so it's not a surprise.

As for being from Norden, there are enough differences between the main languages, that aren't always apparent to outsiders. I mean Icelandic and Faroese are very different from Norwegian, Danish and Swedish, as they don't have as much outside influences in their language and it's closer to Old Norse, they have letters that aren't in use within the other languages.

Danish is the one that is the most bastardised and worst to listen to.

About Nadal's Catalan, my best guess is someone from Catalonia said it, and it's a rather stupid comment. Nadal speaks his dialect: Majorcan. Of course it's different from the Barcelona dialect, but that doesn't make it worse. He speaks Catalan with his uncle and with Enric Molina, I know that.

I knew about Icelandic and Faroese. Cool languages the Nordic ones. So many vowels it's unbelievable. My flatmate this year has a Danish bf. Potatoes in the throat isn't it?

I got a 5.5l cooker for $40, so I got a good deal. What you do is make everything in the pot on the stove, then pour in the cooker. It worked out well, kept it on low for the afternoon, as I had things to do and tasted fine.

Since Montreal starts today, would love a poutine, with proper cheese curds.

I did get a recipe to make cheese curds once, but haven't used it, would need a cloth to pull them out and then use straight away. They need to have the squeaky feel about them.

Must be happy with the football season coming up and World Cup year as well next year. I wonder if Justin (fast_clay) will go to Limerick for the Aussie/Ireland friendly.

I will try it one day, though maybe next time I am in the northwest of Tassie, I can go to a dairy farm and ask for them for the curds and use them that night, that could work. Quebec, they have a great flag and I think the women are pretty good looking.

Some of the housemates I live with, need to fuck off really.

The bathroom upstairs had to be redone totally, as the tiles were cracking because these idiots let the water run out of the bath. The toilet as well was blocked for ages and we found out why today, these fucking numbnuts are wiping the arse with paper towels and not toilet paper, so of course the towels don't dissolve and blocks the drainage.

Then downstairs, the bathroom I use, these cockchimps and morons think it's funny to piss on the seat and not clean up afterwards. Using the shower like it's a heated fucking pool for ages, then not opening the door afterwards so the air can circulate, then condensation builds up.

Now the downstairs shower has to be fixed, as the base has a crack in it, never had any problems until this new lot of clowns with no commonsense moved in.

Been watching the athletics this Usain Bolt is a big time legend and won't be forgotten.

Too cold for icecream LOL

I had baked beans for tea last night and today maybe I'll eat some soup. Kit Kat chocolate bars have been going down well though. They are only skinny so not much chewing to do.

My big one will be when I get back from Europe - I will get BOTH my right wisdom teeth out on the same day. Lots of pain to be had then :sobbing:

My tooth was actually going really, really well, but then last night it was feeling so good that when I brushed my tooth I forgot about it and just jammed the brush straight into the wound :sobbing: Luckily the stitches didn't come out, but it's been quite painful ever since :( Still, I haven't had much trouble eating all weekend so it could have been a lot worse :)

Hooker's after event interview was great, he was so surprised and genuinely bemused that he won. I will upload the interview to youtube, because it deserves that. He is a likeable guy as well, there is a bit of the Paddle Pop Lion in him, but not fully.

Sunderland and England doing alright for you.

Oh God, the Paddle Pop Lion?? Haha he reminds me more of the Gooch than he does Cameron Ling :o Linger is the only one that can pull off the TRUE Paddle Pop Lion look :)

Sunderland I'm so proud of so far :D Bent and Jones going well, and Cattermole has been a great signing :)

I think Hooker is more like Ling than Gooch. I remember something with him in the Herald Sun, where he was making fun of people who couldn't accept their gingerness.

Sunderland, well they are the pride of the North East. US Open qualies, I have more players to follow in the qualies than the MD, as long as they make the AO, then I am happy.

For those who might be interested, you can watch the Metz final on the web. Just click here: http://video-direct.france3.fr/player.php?id=556 It's 3PM local time.

Of course, I'm all behind Monfils. He played great yesterday against Richard. It was a very good match from both. The show was on I should say. The 1st semi was almost boring compared to the 2nd one. Not that Kohli and Paulo didn't play a good match, on the contrary. But seeing Gael sliding like he's used to and being able to make such amazing points was very entertaining.

I also watched the doubles semi between Clément/Llodra and Schüttler/Zverev. I'd say that the Frenchies had the match in their hands from the very 1st point. I spent a long time observing the Llodra family in the players lounge. Was very funny. His kids are adorable and very lively! Mummy had a hard time keeping both under control. Was pretty funny.

And the cough sounds pretty scary...anyway. It seems we're gonna have bad weather all weekend long, so I guess it should be easy to stay home, doing couch potato.

I can't wait for Monday, that is when my weekend starts, hehe, then again I always work strange hours. At least some football qualies on this weekend.

Hi Vale. I survived through those last 2 days. Won't go back there till Nov 5th. I need that break, deeply. It's not just me having a hard time at work. It's a general feeling. I mean, the situation of students is more and more complicated and we have more and more stuff to deal with, with less means to do it. And that clown as co-director isn't making it easier

But it's over for a short time now, so I just wanna relax :) I started going back to the swimmingpool last week, which I hadn't done for years. Was really cool. Helped me feel better so I decided to go regularly now.

Have I mentioned I'm helping a young foreign student with French? I don't think so. She's 17. She's arrived from Thailand only 2 years ago. She's learning to be a cook. So you can imagine how hard things must be for her. Learning a new foreign language is never easy but with all the specific vocabulary...Anyway, she's so eager to learn that it's a real pleasure working with her. Kinda brings some fresh air at work I should say :) I'm also helping her with English, but it's easier as she had already started learning in Thailand.

Malisse, there was definitely no intention to dope, but the problem is that there aren't logical ways of interpreting laws. It's understandable why 3 missed tests deserves a ban, but with tennis there needs to be better communication between the bodies.

cobalt60
11-07-2009, 11:56 AM
Not just in tennis- lack of communication seems to be a pervasive problem in all walks of life. I don't know if it is laziness, the inabilty to communicate well, disorganization or just plain incompetence. Or maybe a bit of all the above;)
I think as a society we make stuff way too complicated most of the time. And if we could only see the simpler way to do things and make life more simpler overall we would be so much better at running things whether it be a business, government or whatever.
How are you today GW? BTW you have most likely noticed I am off facebook ; just found it too intrusive and way too many effing ads etc. Speaking of turning something that was fun and easy to communicate with others more complicated :silly:

martine2
11-07-2009, 12:00 PM
He missed 1 test and this was when he reported to be at his parents' house before RG, but because of injury he stayed in Florida. I agree he should have reported the change in the whereabouts, but then again I can also understand he forgot to do it being frustrated with being injured again. Moreover the system was new and the players weren't used to it yet.
They should have given him a warning of made him pay a fine, but what they're doing now means the end of his career.

I saw his press conference in Antwerp yesterday and he was in tears. I still feel bad about it :(

If he wouldn't have been Belgian (or better "Flemish") this couldn't have happened, because he isn't a top 50 player.
And what about Tom Boonen getting away with a small fine and a warning even after being caught twice for taking cocaine??? But yes, cycling is loved in Belgium and so is "Tommeke Tommeke"...

Got a backlog of topics to get through as well. Got to say I am happy that Luczak has finished inside the top 100, he proved a lot of people wrong.

i also hate shopping, always trying to make it as spartan as i can... i do love bookshops though, particularly the ones with an opinion and haphazard arrangements...

Got a few things on at the moment, should be sorted fairly quickly. Old Lucho decides to retire, well he knew the time was right for him. Will do an entry for him tonight.
