Just discovered about Gasquet. Well, l'Equipe revealed one more case of supposed doping. It's not that I don't wanna believe what they wrote about, it's just that I've learned to remain cautious with them. I'll wait for sample B to be analyzed and confirmed positive before concluding anything.

The enigmatic one at it again.

The King will be on centre court today and of course doesn't matter as Oscar wins at life. This Madrid venue is crap. I mean 11am and there is massive shade already on the court, not easy for players to see the ball out of the shadows.

Too bad the mafioso Tiriac isn't in jail.

fast_clay
05-13-2009, 12:30 PM
that shade factor was the first thing i noticed when i saw live footage... i mean... one play is bathed in sunshine, and you have no idea what the is gonna do, or whether is gonna make the shot in the first place... its sh!t... they really need to get that sh!t sorted...

Action Jackson
05-13-2009, 12:44 PM
They didn't play any matches there, because the courts are absolute rubbish. I mean you and I both know that with clay being a natural surface it needs time to bond together.

It's like I have a friend that is a member of the club at Viña del Mar where they play the IS event. He is always complaining that they never resurface the courts at the right time. It should be laid minimum 6 weeks before an event.

We´ve been planning to go on a looooooong trip by car for some time... well, now the date is upon us! As there have been few swine flu cases in South America we decided to go ahead with our trip, imagining the situation can only get worse in the future, and we´re leaving tomorrow! We plan to be away for 33 days, returning on June 17th, and our travels will take us through Chile, into Bolivia to La Paz, bordering Lake Titicaca, into Peru, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Lima, (maybe farther north, depends on how tired we are!) and back again through Chile but stopping in different cities.

Of course my only regret is that I will miss Gastón´s matches, and I won´t have much access to the Internet either. I´m longing for him to get the RG WC and for him to do well there. So much would depend on the draw... I´m sorry I won´t be able to keep you informed by translating articles!

I´m hoping our hotels will at least have ESPN on cable TV and that I´ll be able to find out results of challengers and (hopefully) see a bit of RG!

See you in a month!

Must be a missing codec. There is a free program called avicodec that helps you find the problem. I have the Dutch version but here is an English link.

You should run the program to determine which codec is missing.
I guess you'll have to burn a dvd with the repaired file then to play it on yr dvd player.

It works fine but I only play dvd's on my computer or connect the laptop to the TV screen, so no experience with a dvd player.

Is the file the same format then other videos that do play correctly or yr dvd player?

Stani just wants to improve his 5 set record. The Fog/Andreev match was hilarious.

Looks like it's going to rain and be a bit cooler tomorrow, too late though it should help Seppi and Maxi Gonzalez making it heavier.

Justin would be a good one to ask, you could always PM him, he is very good in this technical sort of stuff.

As for the racquet issue, there is no reason to change racquets as long as you are comfortable with it, unless they are paying a lot of money. There are other things besides the racquet that are bothering Edu, but as my quote in the signature says, there are cumulative effects of other factors.

I guess when things go wrong there always are multiple causes. I hope he can sort it out, because it's sad to see him struggle like this. Hadn't expected this either after his good form last year. I thought he'd become a steady top 75 player if he stayed healthy.

Hi Choupi! :wavey:

Yes, I have quite a few of his last year's matches on video and he has the talent to have a fine career. What worried me most was the injury risk, but that doesn't seem the biggest problem now.
I guess the mental pressure of the points he has to defend won't make it easier for him either :awww:
To be honest, I'd like to see him going back to playing challengers for a while for his confidence.

hey... dont worry about me luv... when i die, an age'd Bruce Willis will act as me in a movie about the life and times of me... it will be called Lurk Hard 1.0... i like to stalk...

while that may sound a bit scary, it is not as scary as a player going from frame to frame... ESPECIALLY when you are a highly tuned athlete and you move to a Babolat Pure Drive... which, is, in essence a Junior's racquet...

Case In Point: everyone saw what happened to Djokovic when he changed frames this year... and, let me tell you, the change would have been minimal, simply because Head would have injection moulded the frame to pretty close to the exact specifiations to his old racquet... if Djokovic had have moved to the white head that you or i could soon buy at the warehouse, then he'd game would have moved in a reverse direction even more...

yet still, despite the very good mimic job Head now have now pulled off, it took over a quarter of a season for Djokovic to find the rhythm and timing on the shots... where now, we see him striking the ball as good as he ever has, it was the slow clay season that gave him those extra fractions of a seconds to find the optimum contact zone... he would have been better advised to have changed after the Aussie Open.. but, that's history...

this only serves to illustrate what such a small change can do when you are dealing with highly tuned athlete's... and, along with boxing, tennis is the most refined sport of all...

In Schwank's case, moving from a racquet of control to a racquet built for power like the Babolat Pure Drive... well... i wonder why a player would do that... A junior i work with used that racquet for a while... he was 5'10 when he began using it... and now, he i 6'3... 6 months ago, i recommended him to drop that and move to a Wilson KFactor (djoko model) as he was getting so big that he did not need the power any longer... he went from scorelines of 6/2 6/2 to scorelines of 6/4 7/6 vs me... i am on the court way longer, because the ball is in play way longer...

why Schwank would go the other way to the direction Elite Juniors go...?

well... i am sorry, but, someone in the camp clearly doesnt know what they are doing... Scshwank's issue would be Djokovic's issue multiplied by whatever massive number you want to throw in there...

Are you a tennis coach, Justin?

yes... once upon a time an electrican... among other things...

part time gigolo business running up until the recession... couldn't afford the back wax, beauty treatments etc tec... not having any custom in 14 months doesn't help either...

i prefer not to talk sh!t (tennis sh!t - no one listens, until they ask a question)and keep it light hearted... when i first came to mtf, it was apparent that any sort of tennis jargon was unacceptable and seen as bullsh!t, while heresay, slander, true bullsh!t and asshatery were the norm...

fortunately, i was a full time arseclown once upon a time as well...

lucky aj spotted me early on, otherwise, i would not have developed my 'mtf sh!te filter' and went away...

I keep my mouth shut on all topics... guess I'm just playing right...

keep practising your poker face... even in the face of impending disaster, you might just bluff your opponent into implosion...

well, increasingly (and worryingly), that's is how i am managing my wins over the juniors... when in truth, i have used most of my aces already...

Yes, the Toad is a prick, but that's the way he is. Just hope he can at least be competitive and serve well, he should kick over Nadal's bottles.

Yeah, when you speak you seem to sound normal. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Lendl is awesome.

Ivan Lendl is a legend.

Justin, I'm glad GWH spotted you and made you stay on MTF. Guys like you make MTF a better place

Well he might be normal, but his interest in gold panning is not something new... though the most difficult task is to find a way to keep gold safe for a long time...

That was mighty impressive by herr Padda Söderling! I probably revert to cheer against him in the Davydenko match though. Davydenko is so totally underrated imo in many respects. I hope he wins the whole enchilada!

Yeah, I like Kolya's game. :) What bothers me about him is his fainthearted attitude... he's recognised for his unflagging efforts though. :p

Anyway, I've always preferred the somewhat "prickish" guys... much iron fist, not enough velvet glove.... how these two can be most effectively blended? it's relatively easy for them...

There was a presentation to Santoro from the FFT. It was very well done and they gave him a piece of Roland Garros.

Santoro seems really humbled and it looks like it's finally over for him. His dad is in the stands, big chant for the man.

They asked him if there is any last wish, he said a woman.

Here is a funny. I was paying bills this weekend and saw a charge for " Barney's Nails New York" for 74 dollars. I appreciated the Fab tribute. Though, as most of you know, this made me particularly sad.....Golovin, who's working and commentating for French tv, said that she was only 1 year old when Fab started playing
After the tribute, Fab has been interviewed on French tv and he said that he was surprised that nobody wanted to believe he was retiring. He's writing a book on his experience as a player, as he's often been told he wasn't like the others....and yes, he definitely wants a woman :p

Monfils sure made my day yesterday. Always good to see the Ducky lose! He was his usual whining prick-self and very arrogant to the ball kids. Shame on him. Good to see Molina wasn't impressed at all by his antics!

Good thing that there still are quite a few players I like such as Delpo and Monfils of course but also Gonzo and well, Muzza isn't one on my favs but still I like watching him and of course the fact that I get to see some of Corretja then helps hehe.

Yes, David is known as wacked. I could be wrong, but that explanation would make sone sense.

Söderling is his own man and has always been like that, even as a junior. Though he has become a bit less abrasive, at the same time he will still be direct and knows what he wants.

anyways, for the player, its pays dividends to feel physically stonger at the 2nd week... and stosur looked rock solid...

I so want the Toad to keep it up and get into the final. Playing like this no one else could give Federer some fits and make a go of it. just a couple of nights... i intend to make a few whistlestop tours this season...

yeah... she gets some bite on it... there are only just a handful of kick serves in the women's game... and... it's effective... the women's game is so bland you only need to seperate yourself a little, make yourself a little unique to make a huge impact on the ballbashing clones... the williams sisters haven't changed there style at all... they've just outlasted their early generation of peers pretty much and now only a fair monopoly of GS know how - which, is enough for them... so many coaches building there players for the quickest way to a quick buck has made it blander than it ever was... but, that generic flavour also means its ripe to be exposed by a hingis with power or something like that...

money and the coaching for the reward of quick money has done that to the women's game... imo...

while... the ongoing sterilisation of surface difference is on the way with the mens generic bland feel... bogey players are less now as one game fits all... thats the lack of understanding at the top of the game... not the grassroots like the ladies...

The Toad's forehand looks ugly, but generally it's not that bad of a shot, as he can hit through it on faster surfaces, but give it some spin if he needs to as well.

There will be a few that will want to copy Nadal as well.

gonna go to cyprus for the ireland vs Custard Guts n friends davis cup event... a few of the players and players on the fringe are good mates... its good to get loud sometimes...

other than that i am just scoping at the minute....

My boys have it too easy. I should make them go sweep some local courts after school. Where have I gone wrong?;)

working a court before playing on it is almost spiritual thing - well, thats what my memory says it is, although i am certian i didnt think it at the time...i was probably thinking there was f*** all else to do...

i hired a local coach to play on some clay in rabat in december at the stade marrocain club... at the end... i bagged the court, then after that, picked up the small sweeper to do the lines... the maroc dude laughed and said something to the effect of 'no, no need, enough'... but, i wanted to, so i did the lines on half a court while he smiled at my knowledge and actions of karim alami, hicham arazi and the great younes - who came from that club... then i said that i watched the irish beat younes and co in dublin 8 months ago...

this killed the broken yet friendly conversation...

Bagging the courts is a great thing.

Bagging the courts is a great thing.

yes.. its great... common courtesy...

and you have laid out another blank canvas for someone else to paint upon... hopefully the court might see some foot slides extending from the 3/4 court nearly meeting the service lines...

Give it a bit of water as well, as your sweeping the courts. After a loss it's a good way to cool down.

Got to admit Nadal losing has shaken things up.

sure has... should be a lot of fresh thinking out there... for me personally, its great.... cos the bull was woulded by constant, unyielding pressure, with nadal doesnt seem to get... even with federer who is content to wade through time not being proactive... but, i didnt expect that sort of result at this time of year...

i mean, i feel a bit disconnected from gm... which is weird, cos i like gm... but, the amount of sh!t in there after 5 days unread... well... i havent considered reading the long thread from the match + a couple of others which look like there could be a bit of fun...

are there any worth lookin at for a laugh or whatever...?

Clay Death and some others not coming to terms with the loss. The Clay Monster one.

Clydey going silly in the Gonzo/Murray thread. R=FK blaming the pink shirt.

Just had a look at the Stuttgart entry list. Not a bad field at all, and a gift among everything. Santoro playing Stuttgart :woohoo: I was starting to think I'd never see him again before he officially retires. This made my day.

eh yep :p It is a very small one about 20 minutes south of me. It is called Spring Point Lighthouse and you can walk to it over a stone bridge about 1/4 -1/2 mile. Really pretty. Just there for show now.
I so want the Toad to keep it up and get into the final. Playing like this no one else could give Federer some fits and make a go of it. I saw a French interview of Robin after he beat Nadal; he was on the verge of crying and having a hard time keeping his composure. So yeah he may be abrasive outwardly but deep down there is more to what meets the eye. And asshole would never have shown as much emotion as he did.

:awww: Sue, don't do this to me...next thing I'm gonna like him :help:

yes... i have a tan up... is good... i look aussie now... the celtic part of my blood masked for a bit... just had an annex ticket for one day... i managed to make a few donations at a few local bastille establishments on sunday evening and wrote myself off in keeping with the ongoing tradition that way was weekend from friday afternoon... but squeezed into see a tiny bit of murray's match with the help of a person leaving... before i had to leave for the plane... walked around, watched a few junior matches... few pros warming up... its a lot of food for thought when you see a warm up take place and it is only centred around the first 3 shots of a point... so practiced on foot are they at this stage that they need not a grinding workout - only to reaffirm that the confidence that they are taking control of the point when they can... this was stosur and thats the female game - first strike... i came home to find she brutalised cristea... from that one session, i could write a 15 week progression for a men's grasscourt prep... it is required i think for a coach to maybe not be at the cutting edge, but, to feel it... for a moment...

anyways, for the player, its pays dividends to feel physically stonger at the 2nd week... and stosur looked rock solid...

Good to hear you had a great time :D
I can imagine that watching the warmups and the training sessions is very interesting and even more since you are a coach.
Goes for every sport, I guess.
Also in dog training (if you can call this a sport of course :p ), I pay much more attention to my competitors trainings then to the competition itself and so do they. Always trying to pick each other's "secrets"

paris is a quality city... spent a lot of time walking around... eating the food... having a beer outside in the sun... some more food... chill out with another beer... get hungry... look at french ladies... down another beer.. sigh... eat a bit... ahh the ballet of life... i hadn't felt it on my previous visits, but, i could definitely work and live there this time i felt...

In case you ever plan to do that... I'm a teacher and what's more, a FRENCH teacher... so if you wanna know the right words... not to be doomed to only "looking" at the french ladies :p

Yes, also a King will be there among many others, just hope there will be good access to the training courts and not shitty weather, plus he is looking for a Mrs. Santoro.

It has to be Belgian and I think that would be Dewulf in there somewhere?

Marti, speaking of Dewulf, I am thinking of asking him to be interviewed?

Spot on, he is in the middle of the top row (but then again this isn't that difficult to guess if you know my favs :p )
He's playing soccer now as a hobby and having a lot of fun. His team is a local club near to where I live.

Well, He always likes the attention and he is still is into tennis and commentating a lot, so I guess he wouldn't mind an interview.
How would you be planning to do it?

No need to find out about my tactics. Then again I have linked his blog, so that might help.

I wonder how good a player he is? If it's like his tennis, he'd have some very good passing and technical skills, but not much running and couldn't be bothered at times.

he has a tennis website now, doesn't update the blog anymore http://www.mytennis.be/

Well, I don't have a clue about soccer, so no idea how good he is. I know he loves the game and is a loyal (fanatic) supporter of Standard FC.
But his back still is bothering him a lot, also for the soccer.

I thought he has been quite soft spoken during his interviews. Nice dimples too;) But I realize he has his moments. Maybe he is growing up.

He has always been like that in interviews Suey. The Game Set and Mats when he was in the studio with ToJo as well, was all very Swedish.

It's just your maternal instincts.

Meetings are fine- only 15 minutes. And my full morning has just ended. Can not wait to see the replay of Toad/Gonzo this evening. Sounds like it was a great match. Maybe good enough to put to disc!
