Howcome everyone is suddenly showing their devotion to Pete?!

He has always been my favorite tennis player along with Roddick and Hewitt, after Guga and Roger. And I have known of him the longest thus I have always had an oath of allegiance to him before anybody else that I adore. But I feel like other people just wrote him off, but now that he's beaten Andy, everyone suddenly loves him again. Like, only a few people showed faith in him from the beginning. Not many people were in my thread that I made for him at the beginning of the tourney.

Yeah, you don't have to shout it to the roof tops day in day out that you love a player, I know, I know. However, some of you are a bit skecthy, eh?!

I noticed that too. And I was sure someone was gonna write a message like this.
I am sick of people saying he should retire as well. Ive had some "fights" over that, especially in the tennisweek message board. Sampras reached the last two USOpen finals, and has a big shot of doing that AGAIN this year. It should be enough to shut everyone up, but I doubt it will. As soon as he loses another match, people will come and say hes boring (last year Us Open, this year US Open. BORING? :o), and hes finished.
Well, what can we do in the end? Turn our tvs on and enjoy his wonderful run these weeks. And wait for the detractors in some time. :p

I've been rooting heavily for Pete since he played Greg.

I had wanted Greg to win, but as it got close in the fifth, I realized that I didn't really want to see Pete lose.

Since then, I even rooted for him against Tommy (who I quite like). Roddick had squat all to do with it, and I highly doubt that is the reason MOST have been cheering for him (some, for sure ;) ).

I have always respected him, and said that he should retire when he feels like it. Frankly I like seeing him prove people wrong ;)

Yes, it is. I have a plummeting feeling that it's ordained for the Droid this year. A pox on Linus the choker! And please make me believe that my worst fear won't happen-- tell me Andre's not going to beat Lleyton only to fall again to that damn serve-o-matic. It's foregone that he will have to beat the Android in the final if he's gonna win it, and I won't be able to restrain from hoping for Agassi tomorrow, but I think I'll have a sense of relief if Hewitt wins. If Andre does get to the final only to lose again to the Droid, I will retire from professional tennis fan-dom.

I must admit, I root for Pete only because I want his opponents to lose. Though I do respect that Pete is a great player.

I'm still not counting out Schalken. I don't think he will win it (let's face it, that would mean beating Hewitt or Agassi), but he may be able to beat Pete tomorrow

Hey now, Schalken was up a break against hewitt in the quarters at Wimbledon a few months ago, so nothing is impossible :)

Mrs Guga, I'm not sure if you were intending to insult Schalken?

My point was he was choking at Wimbledon and still gave Hewitt fits.

So to suggest it is ridiculous to think that he could beat hewitt in a slam, is to ignore said "breif" achievement.

People are finally coming to their senses and properly appreciating Pete Sampras because people don't realize what they have until it's gone. Or in Pete's case, almost gone!

TC, if Sampras wins the U.S. Open, you "won't be coherent for atleast a month." You left yourself open for a real zinger there! ;) But I won't zing you! But remember, it's only tennis afterall. And Sampras deserves all the respect and love he's getting!

I think it's destiny that Pistol Pete Sampras wins grand slam #14 tomorrow and cements himself as the greatest tennis player of all time! :bounce: Case closed!

P.S. - I'm happy Sjeng Schalken had such a fine tournament. That guy has been through alot. And I'm glad for his success! :)

No Cat, people are not noticing shit. They just simply jumped in the bandwagon.
Dont worry, everything comes back to normal when Pete loses the first time.

Pete and Andre have always been two of my favourite players and i always get pissed off when people say they should retire. All those people who were saying that are strangely quiet now, but your right, as soon as one of them loses a match the calls to retire will start up again. Some people seem to have trouble believing that two players over 30 can compete with the young guys.

Pete still sux IMO...

TC,

In my opinion, Pete has never suxed, and still doesn't. He's showing what a true Champion is made of. I just wish he'd been doing it before now.

I've told you before Pete wasn't "washed up" that he still had the game to compete with the top players so I'm gonna do something I don't normally do and say "I told you so!" :D

Good luck to Agassi but I hope the outcome is Pete holding up that trophy. He needs it more, if only to get off the "unlucky" 13!
