They stopped the King's usual preparation.

Hope Gaudio will try and get a WC here.

the prize money 106.5 thousand euros is very near to 150.000 dollars now, the euro being higher than 1.4 dollar :

for the ranking points, when do they decide how many they give ? which exchange rate do they use ?

I guess it will be the points for $125K, that was the original plan. But I'm not sure though.

Good question, and yes, their website seems to have all the kinds of info but ones about the draw. What's the point of all German tournaments' websites to pay so much attention to parties, concerts and other similar events that don't actually have many things to do with tennis?!

Anyway I think the MD should be out tomorrow evening/late afternoon, at least that's what usually happens at Challengers taking place on the second week of a GS.

Isn't Souza getting a SE?

No, he is playing qualies because he lost yesterday at Constanta and qualifying starts today, on Sunday.

SE for Reister?

The entry list hasn't been updated but he is very likely in, as SE or direct acceptance, since he was alternate #13 and the alternate #15 is playing qualies as highest seed (even though the ranking for qualies seeed is from another week).

yes, that's the criterium, for example, if a tournament has a Saturday final and another tournament of the following week starts its qualies on Sunday, even by winning the title, the player has to play qualifying/can't apply for special exempt.

for more info about special exempts, you can check the ATP rulebook (chapter 7, page 82)

I just came back from Braunschweig today and I would like to comment on some matches. It is my opinion and of course if anyone thinks different I don´t mind to hear your comments:

Hernandez vs. Sidorenko:

Amzing match of King Oscar. It felt like Sid. didn´t score at all during OH´s serves. His bh today was fantastic. Even under pressure he did a lot of magic. His fore steady and strong as ever. The only reason why it went to tie-break in the second set was AS strong and effective first serve - It was a weapon today- and some break conversions that OH couldn´t use.

Hrbaty vs. Lapentti:

What a choker that Hrbaty is. 6 set points in the first set. 3rd set 3 times with a break in front, 2 match points and then double foults or unforced errors. Incredible. But today senor Lapentti didn´t have a chance at all. He was far the worde player. Hrbaty dominated every rally, no power or pressure from Lapentti at all. The only reason the score was so tight is that DH did tons of UE and DF, because of his risky play. I really doubt that Hrbaty will have any chance against King Oscar tomorrow.

Brands vs. Kamke:

Didn´t see that much, but Brands was in good form. Great returns. Dominated the rallys, did some UE though. If there was a weakness today it was his serve. Few 1st serves...He underlined that Braunschweig is something very special for him. It seemed to me that Kamke wasn´t focusing too much. He complained about the umpire, lines, court and spectatores (" Warum muss so ein Daddel vor meinem Aufschlag rumlaufen...")

Phau vs. Massu:

What catastrophe that game was for Phau. I don´t remember any good hit of him. I can´t say any about Massu because Phau already hit every ball in the net or out. Today I could have played Phau and be the winner. He was far the worst player that I have seen today. The next match will show how good Massu really is, because today wasn´t a challenge for him. Bice warm-up...

Martin vs. Ouanna:

In the beginning it lokked like Ouanna would have a calm afternoon. 4:1 in front (1st set) impressive serve, nice attacking and returning. Martin was lost during his service games, because ervey service came back as a rocket and was running from line to line without succes. His bh mostly worked and Martin only answer was throwing the racket and screamin some "puta merda". But then everything changed. Tons of UE (mainly BH), bad serving and Martin was back. The tie-break was close but after that Ouanna was already calling for the doctor and everyone knew it didn´t look good. His retirement after a break was better for everyone.

Rosol vs. Del Bonis:

Only watched the first set. Del Bonis was the better player. A lot of variety in his game and always close to a break. Only the stunning serve of Rosol saved him. But Del Bonis was too passive, even he dictated the rallys. He was able to close the point and Rosol was very clever and took the momentum/used his few chances and saved his service.

Vejmelka vs. Devilder:

I have never seen Vejmelka play. With his hair wild like Pavel Snobel he certainly is someone who takes the attention even though he is very queit and only hangs around with his girlfriend besides the court. He has a great forehand and nice returns. During his service games he actually had more problems then with Devilders services. Devilder was emotionless in the first set, no body language at all, no fighting. After he called the doctor during the set break it seemed that a recovered a little bit but at the end he lost his service game after leading 40:0 (4:5)....I have never seen someone trying so many times to play a stop. Minimum 25 times he tried it and almost every stop was hit in the net. And even if the stop was succesful, Vejmeka got it and tipped hit to the side lines and won the point. I don´t get how someone can be so stupid and to play always stops without winning 1 point. It looked very unmotivated. If Vejmelka really has the skills to advcance in this tournamnet, I can´t say. I think Devilder was too bad today (only Phau was worse) to forecast the match against Rosol.

Meffert vs. Andujar:

I was impressed by Dominik Meffert. I think in future I ll be a big supporter of him. Phenomal tennis against an Andujar who didn´t play bad all. With power tennis, aggressive even in long rallys against a clever Andujar. Meffert succeeded to play his game. In the first set Andujar took an injury break. Honestly, I think it was tactical. To me Mefferts left knee looked much worse and he walked very strange. Andujars weapon was to argue with the umpire. Almost every game he discussed with the man on the chair. Very annoying. Meffert on the other hand, didn´t complain once, accepted every decision and often praised Andujar´s shots ("good work"). With a little bit of luck and without injuries he could reach the semis...

Beck vs. Mannarino:

Very shortly: Beck was the better player with better shots. He was choking a did tons of UE. Never doubted that he would lose that match. Mannarino played a solid match but Beck is just a level higher than him, if he plays is tennis. But I think Beck has problems with the pressure beeing the number one seeded...

Off topic: Does anyone know if A.Mannarino is homosexual? No valuation but affection and expressions were somehow very poncy.Shaved legs and grils crying after dfs seemed very strange to me...

Training court:

G. Canas, trained one huour with his coach and was a very happy mood. A lot of laughing and jokes, but good tennis as well. His coach gave him a lot of advices.

Gabashvili: To me it seemed that he trained the whole day. He played doubles, traing with Joau Souza and others and tomorrow again 90 min just before the match...Didn´t know that he speaks fluently spanish. He seemed to me very motivated.

B.Dabul: Played 30 min a little match. He played horrible and was´t satisfied at all....

Ouahab: Only saw him in doubles where he played aweful. I think he got really fat....

C. Rochus: Seemed to me very conecntrated. Very quiet but extremly critical about himself. Even I thought it was a good session of him. He watch the Devilder match as well...

F.Mayer: I am really worried about Mayer. I watched his trainig session with his partner and it seems that he still has seroius problems with his ankle and can´t give 100% ( F. Mayer to his partner: "Junge, ich kann noch überhaupt kein Volldampf geben. Die ganze Zeit habe ich Angst das es nicht hält." Partner: " Hast Du denn wieder Schmerzen?" F.Mayer: "Nein".) After 10 min. they stopped their session.
