Hope I expressed myself accurately in that title. :)

Finally pushed myself into doing this, thanks to icedevil0289 :yeah:

Okay folks, here's the place to dump all your friendly stories & pictures about Roger's Biggest Rival aka. The Clay Bull, The Spartan, and assorted other :bs: names under which this rather friendly and appreciative FAN of Roger goes along. So at least we won't be spoiling the regular Fed Forum threads with our posts showing his kindness, meh.

In fact, the guy is FedTard #1, as can be seen from all his messages, all his gestures, and all of the lovely pictures spread around the net. :worship: :ras:
The guy deserves a much more friendly rap than he often gets among Roger fans. HECK, he's one of US!!! :o

I'll start off with this, be happy to join me - or not. ;)

I think this is a nice idea, stop the hating. They like each other, so it seems logical.:)

I love how Rafa is always giggling with Rogi,

Yep. The fellows at least respect each other, and why not? I'd like to go out on a limb and claim that in some ten years of time, they'll actually acknowledge being friends.

Martina Navratilova & Chris Evert, anyone? :worship: :yeah:

me 2! I often wonder what they discuss when they meet each other in the locker room or in general waiting for the ceremony to begin. For someone who does not speak english rather well, he always seems to speak quite a bit with fed.

I saw an video once about their rivalry, and Moya said they were friends. He said something like (and I am paraphrasing) it's nice that they have this rivalry but it doesn't harm their friendship. They are good friends.

So maybe in 10 years they will be more like proper friends - socialise and all, but I think now they are like work friends- just see each other at the office kinda thing. At least I am hoping. I like happy endings.

THAT was such a lovely gesture - Roger initiating it, and Rafa, despite his disappointment at his perfomance, gladly accepting it! :D :worship:

 to both gentlemen, but well, in the end... that is what this thread is for! :D

In contrary to what the Media Hyping tells us, these guys have a lot in common. Both of them brought up in sensible, middle-class families, who have obviously tought their sons to be respectul and gracious towards opponents. Also, as far as I can conclude from what I've read so far, NEITHER of the two was being 'pushed' into playing tennis.

I guess that's one of the main reasons why both of they guy's parents are such a wonderful people, applauding for their son's opponent's good shots.

In other words: Roger & Lynette & Sebastian & Ana Maria!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

yup, agree. Although I want to clarify that I'm pretty sure the picture was from wimbledon 2006 and not wimbledon 2007. He definitely looks a lot happier than in the pics I have seen of wimbledon 2007 and I am sure he was dissapointed with his wimbledon 2006 performance, but that was his first final. If I was him, I would be proud for getting to the final and taking a set off of roger. Pretty good for someone who was labeled only a clay courter.

You are entirely right on that.
There was an obvious difference on how Rafa went through his 2006 Wimbly loss compared to the 2007 one. In 2006, noone (except for this particular fool, perhaps :p) expected him to reach the final at all. In 2007, the odds were rather different, and it was obvious how much that loss actually hit him. A very close battle which could've easily gone the other way. (Just as was the case in the 2008 final, but that's besides the point here... ;))

In 2006, Rafa was happy to just have reached the final at all. In 2007, things were rather different - he smelled the victory out there, and it wouldn't have been very strange if he indeed took it. It must have been a major disappointment for him there.
In 2008 - let's not even go there. Let alone, this year's version.

karin, you're going to have to pardon me for my ignorance, but how was the wimbledon final 2007 close like the wimbledon 2008 final? I did not see wimbledon 2007, but the scoreline, atleast for the 5th set was 6-2 and compared to 9-7, doesn't seem that close. However, perhaps he was close to finishing it in four sets or something of that sort and wasn't able to.

The bolded sentence is how it happened in the 2007 final, indeed.
To me it looked obvious that Roger was about to win that match, but in all honesty - I thought the same thing about the Wimbly 2008 and AO 2009 matches after the fourth set, so don't take my opinion for something that is worth of anything... :tape:

Just don't like it when they have to meet in a big final cause of course natually one has to lose.

I always find myself completely ripped up after a final between the two, now even more as the 'rivalry' (is it, still?) has become so lopsided. :o
Would be a lot better to bear if they'd share the trophies a bit more equally. :p

I'm loving this thread. Roger and Rafa have proper respect and nothing but respect (and affection I suppose) for each other, and Rafa is as much a gentleman on and off the court as Roger is.

I love him. In a lesser extent than I love Roger, but I appreciate him for who he is and how he plays his tennis :). Of course I'll root for Roger more and i'll get annoyed and frustrated if he happens to beat Roger again (I hope that won't happen anytime soon again!!) and maybe secretly wishing Rafa will stumble in a couple tournaments so Roger can have his number one back, but I never agree with dissing, dislike, or hating Rafa just because of what he has achieved through his hard works.

I hope I expressed my thoughts properly there XD! Pleasure to find this thread :D!

Thank you so much  - I was feeling insecure about starting this thread at all, but did so because I thought it would be a better idea to discuss Roger & Rafa (or even solely mention his name :tape:) in a separate thread, so anyone who enters it knows what to expect... and those who don't like him are free to ignore it completely.

That's exactly how I feel about Roger & Rafa as well. You've certainly managed to express it perfectly!

I fell like a brick for Roger when he first appeared on the tour, and he'll always be my personal no. 1 - even more now it looks like Rafa has firmly taken over his reputation as 'The Unbeatable One' - but it is good that Rafa is there at all, for tennis, for the competition, etc. Of course it's sad that Roger one day had to lose the top spot, but it was to happen inevitably, and I'm very happy that it is at least a very friendly, decent fellow who he lost it to.
That said: at least, take back Wimbledon this year, Roger... please? :awww:

I agree! I believe roger once made a comment about nadal that said, "If I'm not no.1, than he should be." I can't think of anyone who was more deserving to take the no.1 position from roger than rafa and I'm glad roger lost his no.1 position ot a great, humble champion.

Ace thread Karin :yeah:

I'm another who likes Rafa a lot - I must confess I'm not a big fan of his tennis, but he always seems like such a sweet guy and he loves Rogi so much :inlove: I think their relationship is an amazing thing, because they manage to be so lovely to each other despite all the crap in the press and the horrible disappointments they've handed each other.

I always cheer for Roger when they meet, but I'm really glad that his biggest rival is such a nice guy. It makes it slightly less devastating when Rogi loses to him

Fantastic pictures btw :hearts:

I would like to add that as tennis players they have been able to push each other to become better competitors and that can only be a good thing for us RF/RN fans because Roger would have eventually got bored out there only because his genius would not have been tested enough...now that Rafa to a point has achieved in doing that I think it will only make Roger improve more, work harder to win and to play longer, to have another goal so to speak apart from winning the FO of course.:wavey:

Hope my point makes sense?
