Your'e lucky to, we only get to see the singles on main court.
I will have to find a livestream, and then also stay awake until goodness knows what time of the day.
I am going to have to record the matches. There is a 10 hour time difference between us and California. :(

Tori or Eimear, do you know if IW is televised on Sky? I looked through the tv listings and couldn't find any coverage yet Scoobs one of the mods said it is, is this a 2 week tournie? I've never watched this one before.

Cloudygirl
03-09-2009, 09:14 PM
It runs 9-22 it is qualies at the moment. It has a bigger draw than most tournies 96 players but the seeded players (I think it's 32 seeds) get a bye to round 2.

It is also a joint tournie. I have no idea about Sky I will be watching it on tennistv. I don't have sky. It is just qualies at the moment.

Cute. :p He's French so very flashy. And he has a very weird FH, when he brings the racket back, he kinda snaps his wrist back... it's odd.

exactly. I'd prefer him to team up with somebody who plays a differernt game and is more extrovert. Wawrinka is too similar to Richard also in behaviour.....

And in order to get a French doubles going, Richard should play with Jo or Jérémy.

Davodus

actually i agree with that, i think thats why he and jo make a good team, different personalities and games
he could have played with jo, but instead they are both playing with different partners  would be good if the frenchies played together sometimes just as practice...

but it will be good to see all the flashy shots that richard and stan pull off :p

IMO, Chardy is like a mirror image of richie.

A good serve, both can be erratic at times, both like to come to the net quite often (richie has a slightly better technique than Chardy at the net IMO, but sometimes Chardy pulls out brilliant volleys too), both like to come in sometimes when I don't think it's a good time to come in (i.e Serve and Volley on a 2nd serve break point down:rolleyes:), both can be incredibly solid and pull up great plays at critical times (richie-wimbledon QF, Chardy against Ferrer at johannesburg earlier this year).

Mirror image being that Chardy has a good FH and richie has a great BH. On the other hand, Richie's FH can be great while I don't see Chardy's BH as anything more than ordinary.

So, they'd make an interesting doubles, wouldn't they?

In addition, Chardy is on the rise, not spectacularly, but slowly and consistently. And to me he seems quite passionate oncourt. Maybe I am just in love with my own idea :o, but I definitely think this combination is worth a try, and much more geared to the future than Richard/Llodra. ;)

I have seen many times how Richard can blow a chance to go far when his draw is soft. So, I don't it matters that much. In this case, he should at the very least play up to his seed, meaning winning one match. If he gets to Verdsaco, then he will have to come up with something special to beat that guy (by that I mean play on baseline and take control of the point with 1-2 shot combos). If he just plays his "normal" 15 feet behind the baseline game, he will maybe win same number of games as against Ferrer.

Unfortuantely that's what happens when the ranking falls. Richie is the 23rd seed and Del Potro is a lot higher seed, which ABSOLUTLEY KILLS me cuz I really don't like DelPotro's game, if he wasn't so big he'd be ranked about 50 right now.

But good draw/bad draw, doesn't matter, I've seen RIchie blow MANY good draws so who knows. If he wants to be TOp 10 he HAS to beat TOp 10 players so Bring 'em On.

IMO most likely it will be feli coz mika still looks to be struggling with that injury. In that case, it will be a difficult match coz of feli's serve. I was watching feli's match against tursunov and i think they only lost 6 points altogether on serve after 12 games.

Richard is clearly trying to change up his forehand. It was noticeable in Australia in some matches and today as well. It is still relatively short shot, but with slightly more safety (top spin) instead of side spin.

Sorry I missed the whole thing but sounds like he played well hitting some of those amazing shots. Maybe that's why when I was watching a few points of the Fed match and Fed hit a blazing BH DTL passing shot and the commentator said "Wow that was Gasquet-like" - I think it is supposed to be the other way around - I can imagine what Roger would think if he heard that.

anyway good job Richie. I was a bit worried this being his first match of the tourney, against a Frenchmen and he usually starts a bit tentative.

Well hope he comes out on fire against Verdasco cuz he'll have to if he doesn't want to get eaten alive. Bon Chance Richie!!

In L'Equipe today:

He seems in great mood, he's very happy about his game, the way he returned right from the beginning. He went a bit to sleep when he was up 4-0 and Mika played a few surprising shots then, but he managed to step it up and after the break right at the beginning of the 2nd set, it was over. He keeps taking care of his shoulder, but it's not bothering him anymore at the moment.

I share the same point of view as him.Great start of the match, with much of agressiveness and fluidity in his game.
Then he let llodra come back but the second set was more tight than it appears.Llodra had many opportunities to break back but didnt convert.
I hope richard will give the same quality tennis but for more than 4 games cause verdasco will be MUCH MUCH tougher to dominate.
He has to believe in his game and go for his shots.

Congrats for your win yesterday Richard! :)
Watched the match and he was playing really well, especially in the 1st set.
The first 4 games (which he won) were perfect, Llodra couldn't do anything. Richard served, returned and hit amazing passing shots from the BH side :) Later he "slept" a bit, but served great in the end of the set in order to win it.
In the second set, the crucial game was the one which Richie served in *1-0, Llodra had few bps and that game was very good and tight and Richie won it. Then Llodra lost his concentration and Richard kept his level and said to the 3rd round.. Good luck! :)

it didn't look that friendly considering they were playing together last weekNo it didn't. Personally, I don't think they are a great choice for doubles. I think Marion said they don't really get on that well. I don't know much about Llodra but heard the way he was talking to one of the ball girls last night and really wasn't impressed, he was damed rude!:o Maybe he has a prickly personality and Richard probably wouldn't know the best way of handling him.

Cloudygirl

Keijan
03-15-2009, 10:54 PM
Well Llodra did get bagelled so it was probably hard to have a big genuine smile on while shaking Richie's hand. You're right, I felt it was cold too, but maybe not that surprising, they're not really friends after all.

About that, Tori, actually I was refering to what Llodra said back when they lost against USA in DC. He had some harsh words towards Richie's father but I don't know much more. I wouldn't call them the best of friends that's for sure. And when you're going to play doubles on a regular basis, especially in DC, I'd say you'd need some close relationship at some point

I don't think they can decide (although I'm not 100% sure on how it works) but it will definitely be played tomorrow (weather permitting). Evening all!

Gonna sound like a stupid question but why are tennis players calves so huge? I mean footie players calves aren't so pronounced are they?!

Schu

 I didn't know he did that Tess! Richard is definitely starting to serve better. He just needs to try and get into Nando's service games which I'm sure he will in time

DAMN!! there goes the set.

That last game Richie looked like he was starting to panic a bit - shanked BH, wild FH, missed first serves. The SV worked but only if he got his first serve in which he misssed too often.

How many points did Richie win on Nando's serve? Can Verdasco keep this up? Unfortunately I think he can. But KEEP FIGHTING RICHIE!!!

Davodus
03-16-2009, 10:09 PM
he is barely making 1 unforced error
richard has to hit a winner to win the point
