Check Fabio's website, it seems like there was some controversy over whether or not Seppi would play.

We are playing Switzerland in Davis Cup world play-off. Well 1-0 down already and Federer hasnt even played yet. Seppi lost easily to Wawrinka.

Seppi is shit. The guy should step down from Davis Cup... his record is poor... 11 wins 8 losses. Only 2 wins of note for Italy and thats against Ferrero and a young Cilic. Apart from that he loses to everyone who is a half decent tennis player. The facts are (and his singles record would show this) that he bottles it in the big moments so Davis Cup cant be for him (please make me eat my words). So from now on I would even prefer Fognini or more so Starace who seems to like the big matches and at least gives us a shot. Bolelli will lose to Federer but he still isnt 100% yet.

Italy playing at the Netherlands this week on indoor hard, Starace and Bolelli are the singles players, Lorenzi and Bracciali are playing the doubles.

Much of this tie is going to come down to whether Potito can beat Haase. If he does, the Italians have a chance at a 3-2 win. If he doesn't, probably a 4-1 type loss. The doubles team can win for sure, and you never know about Simone. They are the underdogs but do have some chances. Let's hope for a road upset win and a chance at making the world group!

Italy is ahead 2-0 on the road after day 1!!!!

S. BOLELLI def. T. DE BAKKER 7-6 (5) 7-6 (5) 6-3
P. STARACE def. R. HAASE 7-5 6-3 2-6 7-6 (2)

So proud of both the guys, they both played great! Tomorrow the team can clinch the tie in the doubles and they should have pretty good chances to do so. Good luck to Paolo and Daniele!

Poto and Simone ended up playing the doubles and they won 6-4 3-6 7-6(5) 6-4 to win the match and the tie 3-0 over the Netherlands!!!!!! Great performances from both Simo and Poto all weekend long, great job to them and the Italian team. They now play in the WG playoffs coming in September. Hopefully they can make it in the WG this season.

Dead Rubbers

Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) def. Igor Sijsling (NED) 6-4 6-3

Robin Haase (NED) def. Daniele Bracciali (ITA) 7-6(4) 7-5

Italy wins 4-1 overall and will await their draw for the world group playoff phase for September. Good luck in the fall boys!

Bolelli really brings his game for the davis cup, but itsnt doing that well on the main tour. Quite strange.

i predict a Sweden - Italy 5-0

Sweden only has one good player, though. I can see both Poto and Simone beating Vinciguerra. Then it would only take the doubles win. It's going to come down to winning all non-Soderling matches.

Sweden should not be able to win this 5-0 for sure although they are the home side so they have the chance.

If this was in Italy I would be quite confident we can win, but it is on the Hard courts, and with no Seppi on this surface it will be difficult. Starace is our number 1 player, but he basically sucks on hard courts so I would even prefer if Fognini and Bolelli were the ones to play the singles. I think Fognini can defeat Vinciguerra on the hard court, but Im not sure about Poto.

Having said that Poto beat Haase on hard court in Holland so maybe I underestimate him. He will definitely play anyway so lets hope he can do the job against the no.2 because we know Soderling should win his 2 singles.

Hopefully it comes down to the doubles, and with Starace-Bolelli I would be fairly confident as they have beaten some decent pairings.

Why doesn't Seppi play Davis Cup? I think that the Swedes are the favourites, but of course I hope that the Italians win the matches against Vinci and then they have their chances. Forza Italia!!!!

Just realised Sweden have good doubles too. So it will definitely be tricky. Soderling should win his 2 games, but you never know. Superbol comes out firing for Italy in davis cup. He and Poto will hopefully do some damage should they be the 2 to play the singles and doubles :)

Awesome Starace so far. 6-2 6-2 against Vinciguerra. Come on win the 3rd :)

6-2 6-2 6-2 Starace. 1-0 to Italy. Beats most predictions on here of a 5-0 whitewash.

Now we need to win 1 more rubber before the final one. The 2 chances against Soderling are slim and the doubles is tough, but Forza Italia!

Great job Poto!!!! Played really well today. Hopefully Fabio can keep it competitive with Robin, and then you never know what could happen. Just have to make sure we get the doubles tomorrow, if Simone/Daniele win, then we will be the favorites. Good luck boys, I know you guys can do it :)

09-17-2010, 04:28 PM
pretty sure it'll be Potito playing in doubles with Bracciali or Bolelli

Filo V.
09-17-2010, 09:47 PM
Poto will definitely be playing the doubles I'm guessing. I would pick Bracciali but we'll see what happens. Robin beat Fabio 6-1 6-3 6-2 in around 1:15, so it's clear that this is going to come down to tomorrow and winning the doubles. Lindstedt/Aspelin are a good doubles team, so they will be underdogs, but it's not impossible. Robin may end up playing doubles himself, so we'll see.

Just win those doubles guys! Good luck.

Poto and Simone lost in 5 sets to Lindstedt/Aspelin after having a 2-0 sets lead, and 30-30 at 5-*4 in the third. Unfortunate way to lose the match and the tie. Neither team played very well. Simone was very poor at the end of the match, and put too much pressure on Poto, which resulted in him breaking.

Oh well, they gave a great effort, they'll just have to continue winning in zonal ties and hope they can get a Romania or Brazil, or maybe Sweden again on clay, and they'll have chances. They just aren't good enough without Seppi to beat teams in the world group playoff stage.

Really disappointed and heartbroken with this tough loss...
It's definitely a hard time for the team and the fans. Too discouraging.
Hope they have better luck next time and fight for their place in the world group:rocker2:

Unfortunate loss, but a much better performance in general. Maybe next year we can finally win the play-off if we get to that stage.

We play Slovenia next week in the Davis Cup to qualify for the World Group play-off match. The squad as expected is Bolelli, Bracciali, Fognini and Starace, with Volandri as the reserve I would guess.

If Fognini is fit, I would assume it is he and Starace in the singles, though Bolelli is playing well, Starace has always done well with the Davis Cup team. Possibly with Bolelli/Starace or Bolelli/Bracciali in the doubles.

Slovenia's singles players will be Kavcic and Zemlja, both of which can be threats on their day to our singles players. That said we should be disappointed if we do not win this one.

RUBBER #1: Fognini (ITA) def. Zemlja (SLO) 1-6 6-4 6-4 6-4

RUBBER #2: Starace (ITA) def. Kavcic (SLO) 3-6 6-3 6-2 6-4

RUBBER #3: Starace/Bracciali (ITA) def. Kavcic/Zemlja (SLO) 7-6(3) 7-6(4) 6-2

RUBBER #4: Fognini (ITA) def. Bedene (SLO) 6-2 2-2 ret.

RUBBER #5: Bolelli (ITA) def. Zemlja (SLO) 7-5 6-3

Italy won the tie 5-0 over Slovenia!!!! Great performance from Poto in his singles and he and Daniele make a great doubles pair. Daniele played great in the doubles match.

In the WG playoff stage they will play one of Czech Republic, Russia, Israel, Croatia, India, Chile, Austria, or Romania.

The only teams on that list I don't want to see Italy play are the Czechs and Russia. Russia would be a road tie, and on fast indoor courts, that wouldn't be a good match-up. The Czechs have Berdych, and Stepanek plays great in Davis Cup.

Croatia would be a home tie and they can beat Croatia at home on clay. The teams we most want to play are Romania, Austria and Chile.

Hopefully Italy can make the world group this year :)

Italy plays at Chile for a spot in the WG. All in all, that's a great draw for the Italians. Chile doesn't really have a doubles team, Massu has declined, Gonzalez isn't 100% fit and who knows when he will be, and Capdeville is mediocre.

The question now is, while Chile select hard court? That may be their best chance. But if Italy is going to make the WG, this is about as golden an opportunity as they will receive.

Good tie indeed as long as Gonzalez doesnt roll back the years. Great win v Slovenia aswell :)

Chile this week on Hard courts in their country.

Fognini, Starace, Bolelli and Bracciali is the team.

Fognini and Starace will be the singles and I think after their USO run Fogini and Bolelli should be the doubles.

Starace won the first rubber in 4 against Capdeville. Excellent win and Poto keeps up his great Davis Cup record. Fognini next against Gonzalez and a win here would take us a long way to winning this. Tough match though, Gonzalez used to be a big game player.

It is 2-0 after Gonzalez retired at 1 set all with Fognini. A bit of luck, but the tie is considerably in our favour, especially if Gonzo can't play the Sunday anyway. It says Bolelli and Bracciali will be the doubles team, but I think it will either be Poto and Bracciali or Bolelli and Fognini. Hopefully Bol/Fog makes up the team after their USO SF.

hopefully a good draw for world group
