There are so many threads for Polish players deeper in the rest of world section. I don't know if Kubot has one, but I think those threads should be more active;)

Well, you know those leagues like Bundesliga. And in the Czech league Łukasz represents a team from Prague that is called TK Neridé. :) From what I remember now, there are Lukas Dlouhy, Tomas Zib, Kveta Peschke, Agnieszka Radwanska and others in this team.

Roddick Falls On Mixed Day For Finals Contenders
Beijing, China

by ATP Staff
06.10.200

Lukasz Kubot recorded his first win over a Top 10 player.

There were mixed fortunes at the China Open on Tuesday as Andy Roddick, who leads the battle to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London in November, made an early exit.

Qualifier Lukasz Kubot recorded the biggest win of his career as he stunned defending champion and World No. 6 Roddick 6-2, 6-4. It was the Pole’s first victory over a Top 10 player (1-3 record).

"I think first and foremost is you try to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals." said Roddick. "That’s certainly a goal at the beginning of every year. I missed an opportunity this week, but you certainly want to get confirmed into that tournament sooner rather than later."

The No. 143-ranked Kubot took advantage of a below-par serving performance from Roddick – the American was limited to just five aces and won only 59 per cent of points behind his renowned first serve – to break serve five times from nine opportunities in the 81-minute match. Roddick captured the title last year with victory over Dudi Sela.

"I didn’t play well," lamented Roddick. "I don’t know if I was super prepared. It showed. I was trying stuff out there, and nothing seemed to be working too well." The American, who is through to the doubles quarter-finals with Mark Knowles, added: "I'll just try to practice here in doubles, so I’ll try to do as well as I can in that and actually use that as a tool to get prepared (for the the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000). I certainly need to put some time in."

The 27-year-old Roddick, who was contesting his first match since suffering a third-round exit at the US Open (l. to Isner), will next have the chance to qualify for the season finale at the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, beginning Sunday.

Kubot, also 27, improved to an 8-5 mark on the season, highlighted by reaching his first ATP World Tour final as a qualifier at the inaugural Serbia Open 2009 (l. to Djokovic) in May. He next will face Croatian Ivan Ljubicic, who fired 22 aces as he battled past Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-1 in two hours and 17 minutes.

Good on Kubot for entering the top 100, however, I was checking the rankings earlier today, Kubot is 89 now but may/will fall right out of the top 100 again, he has 42 pts. to defend the rest of the season, it would take him to around 100-105 range I believe. Hopefully for his sake he plays the last couple of challengers of the season.

Unless a pretty decent result next week he will be out of top 50 in couple of weeks :(

Lukasz' results in both singles and doubles have fallen off quite a bit recently. He is 12-12 this season on the ATP tour, with Australia and Costa combining for 7 of those victories. He has 2 wins the last 3 months and he's out of the top 50 after losing 150 points from Belgrade last season.

All of those negatives out the way, he is back playing after a week off, and here is his draw for Madrid starting Sunday:

Youzhny - Lacko
Gulbis - Montanes
Kubot - F. Lopez
Roddick v Bye

Winnable first match, but it will be difficult in front of Lopez' home town fans. If he does manage to win, Roddick will be a stern test, but it's on clay and it would be Roddick's first clay court match this year, so Lukasz has some chances. Hopefully he can take advantage of them and put forth a good performance in Spain.

Good luck Lukasz!

Filo V.
05-10-2010, 04:46 AM
Kubot and Feli are the 3rd match on center court today after Serena and Monfils. The crowd is going to be heavily support F-Lo but hopefully Lukasz plays aggressively and doesn't allow Lopez to take it to him and make him play defensively, and uses the crowd as fuel to pump his game and energy up, and start playing better than he has recently.

Luke and Oliver are also playing doubles and are the #6 seeds. They have a bye into the second round and will play the winner of Inser/Querrey vs. Bellucci/Soares in R2.

Good luck to Luke in Madrid in both events!

Filo V.
05-11-2010, 01:16 AM
Luke lost 3-6 3-6 to Lopez. He didn't play very well and he had a hard time holding his serve. Lopez was aggressive from the baseline and took the match to Luke, and used the crowd to boost himself to good play. Unfortunately now Luke has a below average record in ATP events this season and has lost 5 straight matches.

Hopefully he has better luck in doubles with Oliver.

I don't know what's happened, but Luke's results in both singles and doubles have just fallen off the radar. I think it's probably just too much pressure combined with too much playing, but he needs to start picking it up now, as the last part of the year he has quite a bit to defend. Unfortunately, as of right now, it appears the end of the year last year/start of this year was a fluke run. Let's see if the second half of the season gives him better performances.

Lukasz's Double Life

DEUCE
by James Buddell

http://www.atpworldtour.com/~/media/189B7519CE3545049F232B2281779B54.ashx
Pre-hair cut, Lukasz Kubot looked more like a surfer than a tennis player.

Lukasz Kubot is proving that hard work and a solid doubles game can be transformed into a viable force inside the doubles alley.

Tall, lean and bronzed, Lukasz Kubot looked more like a surfer than a tennis player until he decided to cut his long blond locks for the first time in 11 years after an early exit at Wimbledon in June. It came as a surprise to his family, but the amiable Pole has always made his own decisions. "I wanted to feel more comfortable and I am happy I made the change this summer," he says. "I'm hoping it will help my game!"

As an energetic teenager he once confidently stated, "If I am as good as I am good-looking I would be Top 10 player," but he has since matured and has proven to be equally adept as a singles and doubles player. "On the court, I am pumped up and have a lot of energy, but off the court I feel I am easy going," he explains. "When I was younger I sought perfection in everything I did. I still have a tendency to do things at the last minute, but I am trying hard to change."

This year, he may have to revert to his old habit. Kubot and his Austrian doubles partner Oliver Marach, whose common language is a mix of English and German on court, are predicting late qualification for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. They are currently tied-fifth in the year-to-date 2010 ATP Doubles Team Rankings. It is just their second full-season as a partnership.

"We missed three tournaments on clay at Stuttgart, Umag and Hamburg, when we could have picked up points on our favoured surface," says Kubot, who missed two months due to an ankle injury. "Having done so well at the start of the year, it was disappointing to be out for so long. But that's life. I am focusing on getting healthy as quickly as possible, because many teams have a chance at qualifying for the Finals."

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/DEUCE-Tennis/DEUCE-August-2010/~/media/3B3CA74A101C4CC8850E11297822E724.ashx?w=180&h=250&as=1

Kubot and Marach excelled during the Latin American clay-swing in February, when they compiled an 11-1 mark. They won the Movistar Open in Santiago; finished runners up at the Brasil Open in Costa do Sauipe and won their fifth ATP World Tour team title at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco. They have a 24-15 match record on the season.

But Kubot admits his recent return to the ATP World Tour hasn't been easy. "It's been frustrating. I've undergone treatment three-to-four times a day, but I was also able to do fitness work on my upper body and the time off has helped me mentally, so that now I'm ready for the final push for London qualification."

The Lubin resident has another goal. In 2009, only four players – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Jurgen Melzer, Tommy Robredo and Pablo Cuevas – finished in the year-end Top 50 of both the singles and doubles ranking. Kubot hopes to achieve that feat this year.

Wielding a Fischer racquet, made famous by one of his childhood idols, former World No. 1 Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and with an equally weighty grip, Kubot – already a well-established doubles star – is looking to finish the year inside the Top 50 of the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings. It would mark the first time in 25 years a Pole has done so.

Popular amongst his fellow professionals, he is a fine returner, with a powerful serve, a solid forehand and long reach. As a lucky loser, Kubot was a singles finalist at the 2009 Serbia Open in Belgrade (l. to Djokovic) that he describes "as a complete career 360-degree turnaround."

As a result of Agnieszka Radwanska's rise into the Top 10 of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings, three Polish journalists travelled to the Australian Open in January, when they witnessed Kubot become the first Pole to reach a Grand Slam fourth round since Wojtek Fibak at 1982 Roland Garros.

The following month, at the Brasil Open in Costa do Sauipe he "played seven matches in three days to reach the singles and doubles finals", beating Albert Montanes, and Igor Andreev, only to run out of gas in the singles final (l. to Ferrero). In mid-April, he rose to a career-high No. 41 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings. "I'm determined to return to the Top 50 by years-end."

Of course, his newly-earned reputation as a Polish sporting hero is a far cry from his early career, when "only my family believed in me and I didn't have the right people by my side to tell me what to do."

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/DEUCE-Tennis/DEUCE-August-2010/~/media/0CE07FA819AE49B6BF26A585F4102CF5.ashx?w=250&h=180&as=1

Nobody ever put pressure on him to play tennis, but Kubot was determined to succeed and silenced those detractors who considered him a laughing stock by insisting his "only talent is one for hard work", when he left Poland for Austria in search of a bigger pool of hitting partners, indoor courts and experienced foreign coaches.

Tomas Hlasek, his Czech coach, has been a driving force behind Kubot's ranking improvement in recent years. "He has improved my game and forced me to be more aggressive, to play inside the baseline and mix it up," says Kubot, who often intersperses three to four hours of on-court training with long fitness sessions each day.

"I am learning all the time, especially in doubles. I am attempting to get closer to the net, to serve and volley and to think more about how I construct points."

With these additions to his armoury, Kubot firmly believes he can become an even better all-round player. "I have to make my body fitter and even though I am 28 years old, I think I can do so strengthening my legs and my serve. In the winter I will work hard, to ensure I keep improving."

After years of hard graft, Kubot is determined to maintain his singles and doubles career as long as he can and prove those critics wrong, who never dared to believe he could compete with the best.

Season-ending reflections

Dear fans!

I'm sorry I haven't updated my blog for a long time, but as you know I was very busy with my injury in July and August, when I put my 100% effort to get back to the competition. To be honest, I wasn't happy with that at all, all athletes are trying to keep their bodies healthy and fit. And the only thing I was thinking of and tried to do was getting my unkle back in shape.

I was back in action in the US where I didn't win a single match. I played much better in doubles though :).

I was starting to feel much better on court during tournaments in China… The Isner match is the one I will never forget. Everyone talked about how many matchpoints I squandered, but those who watched the match were saying that Isner was more lucky that day. Pity, but life goes on. I played my best tennis after the injury in Vienna, I beat Blake and played a very good match against Melzer (check some highlights videos on YouTube).

After those matches I didn't play any other match due to my doubles. Oliver and I qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London and that was the target of the season. It's a very special tournament for all of us. The draw was not good at all but we were ready to fight for the semifinal spot. We started very well in the first match against Bhupathi and Mirnyi. We had an early break in the first set (4:3 and serve), but we lost it, lost 1st set in the tiebreaker and also 2nd set. It was a very close match and the one that prevented us from making it to the semis. The match on Wednesday against Moodie, Norman… let's not talk about it at all as I was the worst player on the court… And that pushed me to play relaxed on Friday against the champions. We beat them 6-0, 1-6 and 10-6! I was very happy and excited about that win; the last match of the season and a big win against Nestor and Zimonjic. After that great match and with high spirits I packed my stuff with no tennis equipment and went on unbelievable holidays with my girlfriend! We had this opportunity courtesy of my very good friend Lukasz, so I would like to thank him this way once again.

Since arriving to frozen Europe, I started to work out with Oliver in Prague. We played club matches for our team TK Neride (here are some pictures from the Czech Extraliga 2010: http://www.protenis.cz/fotogalerie/set.php?catid=210 - look how many tennis stars were competing!).

At the moment I'm looking forward to Christmas Eve. I will spend these special moments with my whole family in Boleslawiec and on the 27th of December I'll fly to Brisbane where I start my next season.

Greetings to all of you, I'm wishing you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2011. Hope to see you out there at the tournaments!

Lukasz

Lukasz Kubot, 29, is currently No. 93 in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings.

Poland's Lukasz Kubot reveals his favourite meal, funniest tennis memory and the last book he read in this biofile...

First Tennis Memory: “With my friend and my parents to the tennis courts. That’s the first thing I remember from tennis.”

Tennis Inspirations: “Well, when I was younger, my father was a soccer player, so I was playing soccer. And tennis. And when I became 15 I decided to play more tennis. My inspirations were Kafelnikov, Edberg and Bjorkman.”

Last Book Read: “The Alchemist by Coelho.”

Favourite Movies: “I grew up with Rocky movies. Over The Top with Sylvester Stallone [smiles].”

Hobbies/Leisure Activities: “Soccer, basketball, a lot of sports. And if there’s time, going to the beach.”

Favourite Meal: “Tomato soup from my mom.”

Favourite Ice Cream Flavor: “No ice cream.”

Pre-Match Feeling: “Exciting. Looking forward to the match. Pumping up, for sure. Just staying focused.”

Greatest Sports Moment: “Just that I was born and that I have a life [smiles]. But…that I’m doing in my life what I’m doing and I’m enjoying the life with it.”

Most Painful Moment: “Always when you’re having injuries.”

Favourite Tournaments: “Let’s say Acapulco and Belgrade.”

Current Car: “Audi A6.”

Closest Tennis Friends: “Oliver Marach and Mariusz Fyrstenberg.”

Funniest Players Encountered: “Dmitry Tursunov.”

Toughest Competitors Encountered: “I had the worst feeling against Jiri Vanek of Czech Republic, but I made it through, I beat him once. And Davydenko.”

Strangest Match: “6-0 against the Bryans [in 2009] in Cincinnati.” (Editor's note: The Bryans came back for a 0-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Kubot-Marach.)

Funny Tennis Memory: “Funny was once I played with Oliver in doubles. And I hit him with my serve to the head. And the ball didn’t go left or right – it went 20 meters straight up. Fell down and the ball fell down and hit him again. And we were playing French guys in the Challenger. It was at the end of 2005, the Challenger in Doha. After, it was the ATP tournament. And the first question that I asked Oliver, Man, sorry, are you okay? And his answer was like, Man, I want to win [smiles]. So I had a second serve after and I couldn’t stop laughing. So I was laughing. I got a time violation from the referee. And I hit the second serve directly to the fans with my frame [smiles]. So that was probably the funniest.(Win?) We win the match. We won the tournament with a wildcard. And we played semifinal in Doha tournament, which actually started the doubles career.”

Favourite Players To Watch: “Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek.”

People Qualities Most Admired: “That they are staying on the ground. And when somebody goes on the court, that they try to give the best. And I like those kinds of players that are mixing and coming to the net, playing aggressive. So I like those kinds of players.”

Łukasz about the match against Cilic:

"The first set was very very close. We both played very well. We both held our service games and didn't face a single break point. In the tie-break, I double faulted, hit one forhand long and got passed by him twice when going to the net", said Lukasz.

"In the second set, he was very confident. His serve worked incredibly well and his return game was excellent. It's true I broke his serve in the first game, converting the only chance I had in the match, but couldn't consolidate the break for a 2-0 lead", he added. "There wasn't much I could do today. He was too good".

Interview from them

"It was a very good week for us. We made the final in Bucharest and now we have won the title. I think we can be a very dangerous team, especially on clay," said Lukasz. "To be honest, the conditions today suited us. It helped us to hit heavily from the baseline. I think we played very solid today - maybe our best match of the tournament. Match to match we played better and better."

"I think we played very aggressively," said Chardy. "All week we played very solid. We played one of our best matches together today, so it was good it happened in the final. It was difficult with the rain, but we returned to the court and Lukasz was solid on his serve to win. I am very happy to win the doubles title with my friend Lukasz," added the Frenchman. "We played have played two finals and won one title. I think we are a good team and very good friends. I hope we will play more times together."

Also, Kubot won his first match in Gstaad. He beat Dodig after losing the first set, very good and needed win :worship:

Kubot/Marrero Win Acapulco Title On Team Debut

by ATP Staff | 02.03.2013

Second seeds Lukasz Kubot and David Marrero triumphed on their team debut at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel on Saturday, easing past Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 7-5, 6-2. Kubot and Marrero capitalised on five of their seven break points to clinch the win 70 minutes.

“We decided to play together at the last minute. We were supposed to play with different partners, but they got injured,” Kubot said. “I think we did great. Every match, we played much better. We played good tennis today, especially in the second set.”

Both Kubot and Marrero celebrated their second title in Acapulco. Kubot lifted the trophy in 2010 with Oliver Marach, while Marrero successfully defended the crown, having been victorious with Fernando Verdasco last year. The two won 500 Emirates ATP Rankings points and share $86,200.

Lindstedt/Kubot Claim Melbourne Doubles Crown

Melbourne, Australia

by ATP Staff | 25.01.2014

Kubot and Robert Lindstedt won their first Grand Slam title. :worship:

Robert Lindstedt and Lukasz Kubot cemented a winning partnership on Saturday at the Australian Open as they triumphed in the doubles final, defeating Eric Butorac and Raven Klaasen 6-3, 6-3.

"I think everybody could see after the match what it means to me," said Lindstedt. "I cried like a schoolboy. It means the world to me. I even messed up the speech and everything.

"Hopefully we can build on this. Lukasz is one of the absolute best players that I ever played with. I played with a lot of greats, but there are few guys that it has worked so well with for me as a team as with Lukasz.

The Swedish/Polish duo were playing just their third tournament together and had never won a match before their victorious Australian Open campaign. As individuals, they both won their first major doubles titles, a significant milestone for Lindstedt after suffering heartache in three successive Wimbledon finals alongside Horia Tecau from 2010-12.

"I've been working so hard, so hard, for this," said Lindstedt. "Fighting injuries and working with the right people back home, trying to find ways to make this happen. I'm in the gym more than I am on the tennis court. So it's a childhood dream come true, and I'm probably not going to believe it until I finish my career. But it means absolutely everything to me."

In their sixth tournament together, Butorac and Klaasen had gone on a giant-killing run to the final, which began with a first-round victory over wild cards Lleyton Hewitt and Patrick Rafter. They had gone on to knock out World No. 1 pairing and defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan and in the semi-finals they upset Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.

Their run came to an end against the 14th-seeded Lindstedt and Kubot, though. The Swedish/Polish pair hit 33 winners to just four unforced errors and lost only seven points on serve in a dominant display. They claimed victory in 65 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

The 31-year-old Kubot was contesting his first major final and became the first Polish man to win a Grand Slam doubles title since Wojtek Fibak partnered Aussie Kim Warwick to victory at the 1978 Australian Open. The right-hander, who reached the Wimbledon singles quarter-finals last year, collected his ninth tour-level doubles title.

"It's an unbelievable moment. I don't know what to say. I have no words," said Kubot. "I was really focused today. Maybe I played the best match of my life in doubles. "I didn't miss many balls; I didn't miss many returns. I knew this is the fourth final for Robert. This was my first. To be honest, it is always tough to make first time.

"But I'm actually more happy for Robert to win this title than for myself, because I know he's one of the hardest workers on tour. I'm happy that in the end everything paid off right here with me in Australia."

The 36-year-old Lindstedt is the first Swedish player to win a Grand Slam doubles title since Simon Aspelin claimed the 2007 US Open crown with Austria’s Julian Knowle. After winning his 18th tour-level doubles title, the former World No. 3 is projected to return to the Top 10 at No. 8 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Rankings.

I'm sure that he will play in singles in the end of this season, what later? Even he don't know, I think.
Only doubles career has more chances for success :)

Obecnie przebywam w Polsce na rehabilitacji. Jestem w trakcie leczenia kontuzji stopy. Robię wszystko, by jak najszybciej wrócić na korty. Pozdrawiam Was serdecznie! | I'm currently in Poland and doing my best to recover from a foot injury. Can't wait to be back in action. Greetings to all of you!
