Not such an easy draw after all

Well, I guess it is true what they say that hindsight works overtime. The Cincinnati draw would not have been as easy as many thought it would be had Roger still been alive in this tournament. Had he overcome Hrbaty he would have had to take on Bjorkman, then Santoro who drove him near to insanity in Toronto, then Robredo in the quarters. Also, he would have had to play the winner of Safin v. Hewitt in the semis- and on current form I'd say Roddick in all probability will make it to the finals- so no easy pickings!

Imo, all Roger's draws have been difficult this year. He had a " pleasure" playing Safin in 1st round on hard court, Gaudio on clay, he's been unseparable with Hewitt and Nalbandian, also his quarter is usually full of dangerous floaters.

Rogi was due for another break.

who thought it was an easy draw anyway?? Hrbaty was 1-0 v. Rogi and now he's 2-0...

I don't think Cincinatti was a high priority for Federer and then again some people forget that Hrbaty knows Roger very well. It's good for him anyway that he lost, more time off and get ready for carrying the Swiss flag in the Opening Ceremony and winning Gold.

I'ts definitely a good thing he gets to rest, not least of which is getting over the jetlag. I have no idea how they can fly transatlantic so often, it usually takes me about a week to get used to the new time zone!

Cincy was a good draw for Roger, and the first one in a required tournament this year. Normally his quarter is chock-full of players that he finds very difficult. He doesn't usually have any problems with Santoro or Johansson, for example, but he did last week mostly because he was tired. It wouldn't have taken much more for him to have beaten Hrbaty in straight sets - just one of those 6 bps in the second would have done. He would have struggled for the next couple of matches though. As everyone else is saying, it's better that he rests.

What I find so awesome is that no matter what the draw is like, he just goes out and gets the job done (usually so far this year) without any ado. Obviously this time he had just accumulated too many hours on the court.

Yep and both Thomas and Santoro played great. I'm glad Rogi lost. He said he would go to Athens next wednesday so now he gets to rest and relax for a few days and hang with his pals.

I'm not happy Rogi lost in the 1st rd but it was a blessing in disguise... he desperately needs rest before Athens and then back to US for the USO, where he has to defend his R16 pts... hope he can do it. He IS a fave to win GOLD apparently, but that depends on if he can overcome the heat, which will zap any athlete of energy, and if he has the energy to go the distance...

any TV scheds or olympic scheds for tennis???

No idea about the TV scheds (I expect all we'll get here is Tim and Greg), but the actual schedule is on the ITF tennis site at http://www.itftennis.com/olympics/

In the US, I don't know how much coverage NBC will be giving tennis. I have TiVo, and when I did a search for tennis, Bravo came up. It looks like they will be carrying a fair bit of Olympic coverage, which hopefully will include a lot of tennis: http://www.bravotv.com/Events_&_Specials/.
