whats the point of asking Federer's fans in particular, are you trying to prove they are glory hunters or something? this question should be asked in general or are you going to ask every group of fans in separate threads who they prefer?

This is one poll for which I have an clear-cut answer: Agassi

I never really liked Pete until after he retired! Now I respected Pete a lot as a player, but his personality was sort of bland to me while he was playing. I tend to support players with some personality on or off-court. But I like Pete a lot more now. He just seems to be able to let his personality come through a lot more since he's retired.

Andre has always been a hoot though. To me he's just too funny. I saw him on Larry King Live the day after he retired. Larry kept calling him Pancho Gonzalez! :retard:

Andre never corrected him, but just looked into the camera as if to say " :help: ," turned beet red, and started laughing. It was too funny.

But Andre was never rude to Larry. He just let it go.

i was a fan of agassi because i thought sampras was one dimensional only s&v

but yeah i didn't like the fact they played for usa instead of their family's country :smash:

but now that they are gone usa is exposed with their real player..andy duck dick

wow Federer has more fans than I thought around here.

anyway I prefer Sampras as I admire true attacking tennis and S&V styles very much, we see much of Agassi's baseline game these days (except for taking the ball that early which only Federer and Davydenko are doing).

on a more personal level I liked neither of them

Hey, Andy is playing pretty well right now! LOL And how about Jimmy Connors and Johnny Mac? And how about the Williams' sisters? So we have had our fair share of great tennis players.

And don't a lot of players from all over the world still train in the US? I know it's true in other sports.

As a huge federer fan, Agassi is one of my favorite players, which sounds wierd because both have contrasting styles. I can't really pinpoint why I love Agassi. I just enjoyed seeing him play, I loved his personality, and I think he was a decent player. Pete was definitely the better player and in general I enjoy serve and volley tennis, but I just liked Agassi more.

I prefered Sampras, he was my first big Idol in tennis. Agassi was too much in your face and I've never been a fan of grandioseness. Besides Sampras' smooth serve technique just bedazzled me I guess. :p

Later on I could not avoid the fact that Agassi was a great champion and had the best tennis hand eye coordination for sure, certainly of the modern era.

Andre is the king of all types of tennis courts & surfaces along 20 years!
He won all possible Grand Slames (including French Open :)).
Andre is just very nice person.
He is well known in all parts of the world :)
I never was Feda-fan...

That is a good point, I was hoping that this thread showed exactly what you said, because most people assume Federer's fans were Sampras fans, but this is not always true, it seems to be about even with Agassi fans becoming Federer fans. I guess Federer takes the ball on the rise a bit which is an Agassi trait (though Agassi takes it a lot earlier, but still)

You more or less said it for me, and as I also like s/v, I find it puzzling so guess it has to do with something other than just the style of tennis played. I think for me it had to do with the fact that Fed's on court demeanour when I first saw him (2001 against Pete) reminded me a lot of my first tennis love/hero ... Bjorn Borg. Their games weren't similar either ... but I obviously go for the strong, silent type! Except Roger doesn't seem to be that silent anymore  Ah well, I love him anyway.

a-train all the way.

pete played a more similar style to federer but i feel federer's talent is more like agassi's talent. it has to do with the way they strike the ball and the pure skill.

pete i found really monotonous - like a robot.

I like Pete's game better, but much prefer Agassi as a person. I've met both of them, and Andre is much more personable. Actually, he's very, very nice. Pete? He's more of an introvert.

I was never really a fan of Agassi during his early years, though he was an interesting personality for sure even then. I mainly followed his career and life when he and Steffi Graf became a couple.

Sampras was never really a favourite of mine, mostly as he always beat my favourite players of that time. Though as his career got on I really learned to respect Pete for his achievements. Following Roger's career now I acknowledge even more what Pete achieved.

^ RogiFan88, I liked Pat the best back then too.

I'm amused at the number of non-Fed fans answering this question, or maybe Fed had more fans that I expected... whatever. Why is it addressed to Fed fans anyway?

I liked Agassi better, Sampras kinda bored me, I only started to like him after I read his biography and realised what a sportsman and champion he was. But Andre was just one hell of a human being, plus he married Steffi Graf, my all time favourite WTA player - great taste heh?

Wow, Yves not only did you chose Pete like me, but you have the coolest avatar. My all time favourite actor-the one the only Harrison Ford

Great choice. Still it was not easy for me to say Pete at the same time because Andre was cool....what a character AA was on/off court

When Agassi first hit the courts, in his absolutely DREADFUL outfits -
THIS, for instance: http://plastik.hu/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/agassi_1990.jpg
- I couldn't stand him at all.
I thought he made himself look an utter idiot, not just with his outfits & hairband-hairdo, but also with his very bratty behaviour, his silly love-interests (eh... Barbra Streisand??? :bolt:), his boycotting of Wimbledon, etc. What an ultimate TOOL he was!

But fortunately, at times, people are able to change their opinion on a player - and during his career he very much grew on me. I started to admire his game and his demeanor, fighting back to the top ten after having been down to somewhere at... was it ATP spot #78? can't remember exactly anymore - he dumped the silly outfits, got rid of the starlets, and slowly-but-steadily changed into a very likeable guy! :) Of course, when he hooked up with Steffi, he totally won me over (:inlove:), and I ended up always rooting for him (as long as he wasn't playing Roger) in the final years of his career, which - also very admirable - seemed to last to eternity.
Also the last to win a true Grand Slam. One can't help but admire him. One of the true GOATS imho. :worship:

Sampras - FANTASTIC game, always a pleasure to watch (as long as he managed to keep his tongue inside his mouth ). But a bit of a boring personality. Well, it was good for him, so much is sure :).
I started to feel for him when his career became in decline and the media openly started to blame his girlfriend (Bridgette) for that. I mean... how :retard: was that??? How difficult must that have been for him to deal with - but he just didn't give a wink and went on concentrating and doing well at the slams. :worship:

Also, kudos to him for grabbing his #14 at the age of 31. I hope the Mr. Bozo's and Mr. Prickers of this world remember that, before writing off Roger like they seem to do right now. :ras: :ras: :ras:

hmmm, maybe because its the fact that I'm younger, but I liked agassi for that entire rebellious attitude that he brought oncourt. I liked the flashy clothes, the charisma he brought and everything. Its quite interesting that the first slam he won was wimbledon. I think the best thing I like about agassi was his transformation from that bratty kid to a man who worked really hard to get back after falling in the rankings.

I don't know how much 'age' is a factor whether to like him or not in his younger days, but I guess you have a point there. :)

as I remember, it was not rebellious (arrogant yes, willing to beat the current best) but fully "marketing" in that time.

Agassi (we didn't say "Andre" in that time, as he needed to be older to be more near) was completely surrounded by a marketing business in that time.

I agree that those who only knew the old Agassi couldn't imagine what it was in that time.

I guess Federer takes the ball on the rise a bit which is an Agassi trait (though Agassi takes it a lot earlier, but still)

Actually Sampras's style and Federer's style are very very different ... nearly as much as with Agassi.

As far as I'm concerned, I was astonished by the young Sampras in his first final in 1990 who seemed to have a very complete and "cool" game, whereas, as I said, I didn't like Agassi's marketing and also quite one-sided game.
These first years with Sampras remind me a little bit of the impressions I've had about Federer : such beautiful and perfect game

... but then I became fed-up and boring about Sampras's serve,
and I started to appreciate Agassi : first moment was Wimbledon 1992, which really was a reveal and beauty and desire to support him because to beat the "servers-volleyers" on grass in Wimbledon in that time, which really needed a hard effort and great strokes.

All of this was progressive
... and I precise that I "liked" them both because they were among the most interesting to see, if not the most interesting,

but I loved none of them.

And when they played each other in the 2nd half of the 90's, I was for Agassi, mostly because, like in Wimbledon 1992, I would feel what efforts he needed to do.
Whereas I was really fed-up with how many free points Sampras would win with his serve.

Then my final answer is Agassi, but not by far, not loved any of them, bt liked both of them.

And no none of them has the same style as Federer.
