Hey they're brazilian after all :p. But its portugal against Brazil next though.

Anyway, it was really horrible from Almagro, UEs everywhere, composure non-existent. And the Footfault for 4-0 in the 2nd set tiebreak was hilarious

absolute pathetic performance and behaviour from Almagro

Very funny match. At one point Almagro tried to kill Gil with a shot (Gil played a good drop shot and Almagro just wacked it at Gil's head).

There was also a funny point in the second set when Gil broke after only playing exaggerated slices on breakpoint.

I don't like him, such a behaviour can't change my opinion about him...

Gil :yeah: Peacock confirms once again how useless tie-breaker he is on the main level (36-57... 38 % -> just awful record for a Top 20 player)

He's one of the worst players to ever make a maintour ATP semi-final.

Well............ wouldn't want anyone getting the wrong impression that Gil was actually any good.

Gil allows players to hang themselves, GGL didn't need a second invitation.

Yeah I have.

He has no weapons, a weak serve, a good defence, decent brain, and pushes the ball back.

For him to make a main-tour hardcourt semi-final is nothing other than a joke.

i have a few times and I agree with KaiserT

Good call guys.

What is so bad about this Semi final? A veteran top 100 Player with a pretty descent game Frederico Gil. And a player with a great potential Bellucci.

It's phlegm (pronounced flem). How is "gil" pronounced in Polish? 'Cause in Portuguese it's pronounced "zhil'" or "zhiu".

ETA: Erm, yeah, snot is more colloquial. ;-)

I' m a sorry, Frederico Gil is no veterna yet...lol.. Now that I saw. He is only 23 years old. But I remeber him being around the top 100 for quite sometime now.

I think it is actually, a pretty interesting Semifinal. I would give the edge to Bellucci though.

Hmmm. I don't know how to put in English. Do you know Italian? An Italian the Polish word "gil" would probably pronounce as "ghil".

I don't get it, either. Bellucci made the sf of a small tournament on clay...in the South American swing...wasn't he somewhat expected to anyway, after his good run in the challenger circuit last year?

Well, let me put you up to speed. Bellucci by this time last year was around 200 in the rankings, hadn't even won a Challenger tournament yet. He won 3 in a row, by the time the clay season was ending last year. So when he got around to playing ATP events. It was away from his best surface, in places like Grass while he was still adapting to the ATP level.

Now less than one year later, he is here with a chance of deciding an ATP tournament well inside the top 100. And he is just barely 21 years old. So, very high progress, better get used to him..

Frederico Gil, I haven't heard much about him. I just rember him surrounding the top 100 for quite sometime now. And he is still young, I think his game is nice, so he got plenty of time to develop...

It'a amazing how quickly the things can turn around. Last week I was partially watching 2nd round match in J'burg between Gil and De Voest. I consider De Voest as a one of the biggest mugs out there and he was leading against Gil comfortably so the Portuguese seemed to me as an useless player. At match point down, Gil suddenly out of nowhere played the best return of the match, reached the semifinal there and at least another semifinal this week :D

Always love to see Mugro losing. This guy is one of the biggest idiots in the ATP tour.

Gil doesn't have weapons, that's for sure. He's very intelligent though and played exactly how you should against Mugro - lots of slices, dropshots and changes of pace.

Actually the crowd helped him because Almugro has been a complete and utter jerk since the first round.

Hilarious match. Almagro behaved like a d*ckhead during most of the second set. First he smacked the ball to the ground after winning a point, the following point Gil did the same. He also clearly aimed a shot at Gil's head when the latter was at the net, and he tried to cheat Gil out of a clear ace (the umpire had to intervene and check the correct mark). The crowd kept giving him crap and shouting "Gil! Gil! Gil!".

Biggest win of Gil's career for sure, he was crying after the match. He could well beat Bellucci tonight.

After elimination, Almagro was involved in confusion with the public. Looks like Almagro hit a guy who called him "maricon" when he was walking to the hotel.

"The guy called me gay and nothing happen with him. I never saw people enter with alcoholic drink in a tennis court." said Almagro to ATP member.

He was also really angry because during the match the crowd scream to him: "Go sleep Algordo" "You already lost" "Go to pack"

I think this year Costa do Sauipe public had a great behavior, even during Bellucci's match. Almagro provokes the public to insult him and he deserved to listen everything they said, and IMO the words was not ofensive. Of course there's the "gay" history but I don't think is a reason to get angry like Almagro did.

Worst of all is that these pricks are actually, for the most part, people that were invited by the tournament organization to stay at the VIP area, without paying their tickets and loading up on alcohol during matches.

Even though Almagro deserved the treatment he got during yesterday's match, it's totally out of line to confront him on the way to the hotel.

GugaF1

The porblem with Costa do Sauipe, is that it is located in a far away turist resort. So the crowd you get are not the Tennis fans. But rather People who get invited or just turists in the region. who generally knows little about tennis.

They need to re-organize the tournament and aim to the Brazilian tennis fans which are many. The current format is turism marketing for that region, it is silly.

I agreed with you, but I'm sorry in this case this is not the point. All the problem has been started by Almagro and his stupid behavior. Wherever crowd in the world would have the same reaction or still even worst.

No he doesn't. He wasn't even playing a Brazilian. The words WERE offensive and I doubt "maricón" was the worst of them all.

Yeah, that's my problem with it too. Bunch of no-ones "nouveau riches" who think they can do whatever they want, boozed as hell.

I don't think he deserved it at all. I hate him, think he's a real prick, but he's there doing his job, it's not right to offend the guy outta nowhere like that.
