Was the betting investigation just a marketing ploy?

that's what this guy writes here...fair enough point seeing that NOTHING came out of it...though canas does have a history of cheating...but that was to win not to lose...

doubt so ... They wouldn't have THAT much to gain. After all, those that are interested are those that bet in tennis anyway.

The guy is an idiot. He doesn't know the facts. The odds clearly showed some kind of fix/insider information. Why would Canas be such an overwhelming dog when he had won the first set? Before the injury timeout!

Why would Betfair want any publicity from this. If there was more publicity over these fixing matters, and more pressure put on them, maybe they would seriously investigate these matters. They have no interest in this at the moment as long as they're getting commission, no matter how dodgy the market.

In no way does betfair want any kind of publicity like that. It only hurts them and their revenue in some ways that are obvious to the public and in other ways that are not so obvious. The only reason they made an investigation was because there was such a huge outcry. As far as betfair is concerned it is in their interest to just settle matches with a minimal amount of fuss. They don't need any publicity to attract gamblers. In fact before the Davydenko affair betfair's tennis betting volumes were much higher.

If the odds showed so sort of fix, why was nothing found after investigation? And as far as bad publicity goes, it doesn't make Betfair look bad, it makes them look stringent in their checks and puts their name out there even more..

You're being naive mate. There have been plenty of matches like this, plenty of fixes, suspicious odds movements, etc. Do you honestly think Betfair give a shit? Because they are a betting exchange, they are only taking commission from the markets. They are not taking a position. Therefore, the more money in a market, the more money they'll make. If they agreed there was a fix, they would have to refund everyone, and lose their commission.

A corporation's number one aim is profit.

http://alexkayblog.dailymail.co.uk/ This tennis writer thinks so because he says they've done it before...(appearing to be vigilant, looking for publicity? )so he won't even mention their name. I will though.
BETFAIR

I and others have been also barred access to their live streams because they now want a L 10 deposit in the account. Sorry, Betfair, there are better free live streams anyway.

Pfffft

I wouldn't be surprised if the Davydenko affair was partly motivated by a desire for publicity.
Not this one though. Canas isn't a big enough name.
