Did I get the tiebreak scores correct?

Didn't see the first set but apparently Chardy was pretty weak.

The second and third sets were entertaining though, with winners from both players, good serving (from Pics as well), nice approaches and volleys from Chardy and excuisite passing shots from Ferrer. Chardy cramped in the end of the 3rd set tiebreak.

Haven't seen Chardy play before, he has a nice game. A bit unorthodox technique on the forehand and serve but still both are very effective. Hope to see much more of him.

Good luck in the final!

Great comeback from Chardy. Hit outstanding aces in the 3th tie break.

Now through to the final! Allez Jeremy!

Fabulous win Jeremy! :worship: He saved 2 MPs in the second set tie-break i think! I was afraid he'd fall apart at 4-5, 15-30 in the last set but he held! Probably his second best win ever, and if he plays this well again and Tsonga plays dodgy then he can win the whole tournament! Ugh, im so happy, he deserves a great year. :D

3 aces in the last tie break.

this chardy is the real deal

Don't know if he is the real deal but he is a very good player ,that's for sure.
I saw him play against Djokovic in AO this year and he impressed me,at least in the first set.

1 of the best matches i've seen this year.

Go Chardy

Oh yh he saved 2 match points in the tie break and Ferrer served for the match. All of this in 2nd set.

Chardy :yeah: Courageous play in crucial moments :)

Unbelievable what has happened to Pics. In three tournaments this year he has lost 5 sets after wasting setpoints (two matchpoint sets)! Most players don't lose 5 those sets through the whole season.

Chardy on the other hand, has won 3rd match after saving MP in just 18 ATP tournaments what is worth to mention. It's amazing frequency of winning those matches.

Chardy strikes me to be a quite solid player only lacking something in the confidence/mental-department. Let's hope he can progress this season getting a few important matches in under his belt.

Is it??
I mean,Ferrer is far from being the same player he was in 2007.

Ferrer had no answer to both Chardy's 1st and 2nd serve which surprised me a bit.

Fair enough. But Chardy's shots were amazing at crucial moments, alot better than i saw In Australia.

still, i think his form is improving

On the face of it, a bit of a surprising result for me...made more incredible by what actually transpired (notably, Ferrer having the opportunity to serve for the match).

Saw Chardy last year, and there is no mistaking that he is a good player, but I'm not sure I'd go further than that...a little bit too rash for my liking. At any rate, he deserves huge congrats for digging this match out and, in the process, reaching his first ATP final. But, Ferru... :smash:

It's all relative, Ferrer from 2007 was better, but Ferrer is at least playing much better than he was in the second half of 2008.

yes..but Ferrer is still a great defender and returner which kind of neutralizing Chardy's strength

can't wait to see him playing Tsonga (or Gil :D )

Unexpected one.

Chardy is climbing the ranking without doing any noise. He will probably be top20 at the top of his career.

Pics has lost 8 tie-breaks in a row...

Comparison of MP-saved matches on the main level:

James Blake - 169 tournaments; 3-10
Jerome Chardy - 18 tournaments; 3-0

I don't say Chardy is a new mental giant. He is still a TB sucker...

This Chardy can go places. I called the racket smashing from Ferrer in the end was so predictable. I guess its gotta hurt when you give everything but the other guy just have more talent then you.

These two are destined to play each other.
If it has to be a final, then so be it.

I like Chardy game, I watched him beating Nalbandian at RG, it was great. :)

Great victory for Chardy making his first ATP final. Congratulations for him and French tennis. I don`t understand why Ferrer is not playing on the South American swing until he returns to his best form.

What the fuck? Weren't you saying Ferrer was looking good for the tournament last time? And Baghdatis before that? Are you trying to look ridiculous?

great win for Chardy, I've liked his game since the first time I saw him defeating Nalbandian in 2008 FO after being down 2 sets, he has such an enjoyable solid game and he could be a solid top 15 or more soon enough :yeah:

While the stats may prove that Chardy is solid, the 1st 2 sets (yes the 2nd set too) showed you everything BUT that. The UEs were in bunches from Chardy and i think his total UE count is >50. But having said that, he also did come out with impressive winners on important points (3 MPs) so good win!

You can't really read too much into the stats at this tournament in fairness. It's a total anomaly. The balls are flying in the altitude and the guys doing the stats obviously aren't taking it into account. regular flat shots are bouncing as high as a nadal fh on clay, slices are drifting 5 feet beyond the baseline. it's bizzarre to watch.

Mateya
02-07-2009, 11:27 PM
Yes, playing tennis in the mountains would be quite an experience
Nadal forehand would be bouncing out of the court, I'm sure Fed would enjoy it on his backhand :)
