Great play by Cuevas.

Losing zero points on serve in a set is remarkable, statistically it is almost impossible especially on clay.

Vina del Mar is for Cuevas what Moscow is for Kunitsyn it seems.

that's quite an impossible statistic really. *speechless*

And Zagreb for Stakh...oh wait he lost :o

The fact that it was a 7-5 set in a competitive match makes it even stranger. I only saw parts of the match but it seemed Cuevas was playing with great confidence in those service games.

And Sopot to Florian Mayer. When Sopot got cancelled Mayer fell into a very deep slump.

Capdeville played really poorly in the second.
It's funny though, a 7-5 set where the winner won 62% of the points

Good for him, although I don't really think he will be fresh enough to get far next week. He will give it all tomorrow against Gonzo or Monaco, he may have a chance.

It's ironic that last year in this tournament, he also played a SF match against Gonzo, that was effectively a final because Monaco had withdrawn with injury, he even held matchpoint I think.

why Cuevas plays this way only in Viña?

Paul

Pablo played good specially after *4-5 on the first. But those breaks at 5-5 were completely Capdeville's work IMO.
Surprising stat , I was watching the match and thinking he was serving well, but hadn't realized he won every point on serve

Yep, obviously he didn't know at the time, but that was championship point :p

If I'm not mistaken there were 2 matchpoints (championship points actually :p)

On wasting one mp Cuevas said : "I didn't hit a BH like that since juniors "

He did and choked badly at that point in the match.

Cuevas played a fairly good match, he was always aware of what was going on, never had a brainfart or whatsoever.

As for Capdeville, well, he was returning great during the 1st set, holding bps on EVERY service game of Cuevas, until 4-4. then Capdeville's shots weren't penetrating that much and landed in the middle of the court, which allowed Cuevas to hit with more freedom and make Paul fail or just simply outplay him.
Paul serve saved him for most of the match though, he actually played some nice shots to be fair.
During the second set, Paul was just pushing, ...looked a bit clueless too, Cuevas was too solid.

Good match for most of the 1st and 2nd. At the end, NOT

that's an incredible stat

I remember Cuevas had a serve clocked at 139mph v Murray at the US Open. Always wondered if it was something he was capable of producing or just a dodgy speed gun...

That's just an unbeliveable stat, considering it was a competetive set and almost went to a tiebreak. And this is on clay.
You would expect this to happen in some 6-0 or 6-1 set, where opponent sucks or can't win a point anyway.

I will remember this. :worship:

I think he did know, because Monaco had already withdrawn with a serious ankle injury he suffered during a doubles match earlier that day. That injury has plagued Monaco maybe even to today, he came back much too soon to play Buenos Aires in 2008 without fully healing his injury.
