Burnie CH 2nd round: Tomic beats Matosevic 6-0 4-6 7-6

OK, I am not posting this because of the importance or quality of the match, but something is very noteworthy here. The thread is dedicated to Voo, with whom I was discussing these scorelines of Tomic :)

After the epic qualie match with Wang in AO last year 4-6 7-6(13) 7-5, Tomic won three tight tiebreaks against Starace this year. And now in Burnie his results are:

R1: def. Mitsuhashi 4-6 7-6(6) 6-3
R2: def. Matosevic 6-0 4-6 7-6(6)

Of course Mitsuhashi and Matosevic are mugs, but still out of 8 matches the kid played on the tour - 4 ended with the closest socreline possible and Tomic won all these 4 matches. Superb mentality as for 17 y.o.

He plays Polish finest Peter Luczak next.

will be good to get a report from this match, after the much publicised event in w.a...

This match is not interesting because of the scoreline, but more because of what happened earlier between a match of these two, as the infamou incident of Tomic walking off the court happened against Matosevic (who was winning at that time).

Expected Marinko to take this, but Bernard proved me wrong.

Seems to have a cool demeanor which helps him in the big points. That is a nutty scoreline though.

Bravo Bernie :clap2:

He's a tough guy... will do him well in the future

He better not turn into Lleyton though :armed: Otherwise I'll be pissed :o

Looks like the traditional juniors lapse of concentration though - races through the first then gets lazy and overconfident. It's something he's going to have to deal with.

bravo tomic, kick that asses(i am sorry for matosevic, another croat from australia).itf would give him a ban, that is really too much.
yes i think they are some enemies from last meeting.
because matosevic talk badly about bernard after that match an you saw today it was 6:0 in 1st(it seems that motivated bernard).

Tomic's tie-break record (all levels, including that qualifying TB against Wang where he saved 5 match points) is absolutely stunning: 13-1!
Usually tie-break's record improves when a player is more experienced and knows how to deal with the bigger pressure. It looks like, Tomic doesn't need bitter experiences, he builds his mental strength from the very beginning. Of course he won most of those tie-breaks against rather unknown players but Starace who lost threee tie-breaks to Tomic, isn't a TB mug: 85-67 (55 % its a good TB record) - all levels.

Tomic had already as a junior very good TB record: 15-7 (68 %) :yeah:

tomic said for himself that he is really good in tie-break.

tomic said for himself that he is really good in tie-break.

He also said that with Nadull's speed he'd be a top 10...

So... :p
