Verdasco going to make it to his first GS final?

Verdasco has had a great tournament. He's playing some exceptional tennis and the best part is that he's in great shape. Do you guys think that he's got the capacity and strength to get past Nadal or Simon in the semis and even maybe pull a huge upset and win the AO ?

I can see him beating Nadal, but I don't see him beating Fed. Not enough experience.

Bad matchup for him against Rafa, their H2H reflects that, but if Simon pulls off a shocker tonight and wears himself out in the process, Nando will be my pick to make it through to the final. He's not beating Fed though, only Rafa has a shot at that anymore.

I see Verdasco on the winning position against Simon, Roddick and Federer, not against Nadal.

Definitely got the capacity to make the final but Fed WILL own him.

If Simon doesn't pull off the upset then Rafa is in the final

The last time they played on hard courts was almost 2 years ago. Nando is a much improved, and he will defeat the butt picker in 4 sets!:devil:

I think a lot depends on his mentality during the match. He has the game. It just depends on whether or not he believes he can win.

We're making the assumption that Nadal will get through. I wouldn't take it for granted. Simon, if nothing else, makes you beat him.

We've had three surprise finalists these past three years so...

Rafa's also playing a tad better on HC at the moment than he was 2 years ago :p And Nando's improved play doesn't remove match up and possible mental issues he has when playing Nadal

Until few months ago every serious GS contender owned Nando (including Murray) so that alone doesn't mean anything...

Because Nando is a lefty, Nadal can't bother him with that lefty topspin. In fact I think Nando would be more bothered by flatter hitter like Tsonga/Fed/Djokovic.

I somehow think he'll beat the other semifinalist, no matter it being Simon or Nadal

Same thing is true for Rafa  And I think he does what Nando does... better.

he's got 0% chance to make final esp if he plays Nadal

4 or 5 setter against Nadal which Rafa will come out on top of but visibly tired and ready for a smack-up by the Velvet Sledgehammer.

Too bad he's got to play Rafa before the final--I think he has a great chance against the others that are left and I'd be willing to put my money on him if not for Rafa.

I think Nando has a lot of potential. And he's hot.

We'll have to see. If Rafa plays as poorly as he did tonight, Verdasco can take him. It all depends on which players show up.

I've said since Kooyong that if there is going to be a surprise finalist this year, it will be Verdasco. But I don't think he'll get through Nadal. He'll probably give Rafa a run for his money, but I don't think he'll win.

Maybe next year.Nadal will be in the final.;)

I think he'll lose to Nadal in the semis. Not because of the bad track record against Nadal (0–6) but simply because Nadal will really turn it on for his (possible) final two matches.

If he keeps up the intensity he has throughout the tournament, he might have a slight chance in beating Rafa... But i dont really see it happening
