ALLEZ JO!

Disappointing match from both players, didnt live up to the hype, but still happy jo's through yoohoo. At least after mourning Murray, 'still got one fav to cheer for hehe, or two (Verdasco's a cutie lol).

Yeah crap game, many UE and not much drama. Tsonga was 2-5 down in the last set but came back, and it was the highlight of the match.

Only Blake could play such a clownish tiebreak after starting it off with an epic winner.

Very impressive stuff from Tsonga on serve, James was pretty piss poor, it was NID that he'd find a way to lose that 3rd set despite a 5-2 lead. Tsonga-Verdasco should be a ripper of a QF if both play aswell as they have so far.

Wow Tsonga made a muscle at the end of the match and Blake could barely look at him at the net and hightailed it out of the stadium in a BIG HURRY!

I really think he overpowered Blake, but also psyched him out by showing him that he could hang with his power and even overpower him and outserve him. Blake is VERY UNCOMFORTABLE with the idea that anyone can overpower him. He likes to be the "big man" on the court but today his whiny butt was sent home by beautiful, sexy Tsonga.

Tsonga is one of the few players in today's game playing the beautiful game. Fantastic serving, big groundstrokes and net-attacking. This is the way the game is meant to be played. Kudos to Tsonga for that.

Too bad that a player like Tsonga can't be the saviour of the sport. Tennis doesn't want to be saved...

Tsonga :yeah:

Showed some good fight back against Blake's set points in the third, and cruised other than that. Didn't seem to show much physical wear and tear, really, and turned it up a notch when it mattered, to which Blake had no answer

Hoping for Tsonga-Nadal, but Verdasco will be no cupcake, that looks like it will be an interesting battle :)

Blake has always been kind of a head-case. Tsonga 1 st serves was practically bouncing of him or passing by him and he was still standing up front on the baseline trying to retrieve them. Never even tried to make a step back.

Pretty decent match, just too many points decided on UEs. Blake should’ve taken the third.

James was disappointing, he doesn’t have what it takes to go deep in the slams consistently.

Blake lost another match in a muggish style. He could have lost it 4-6 4-6 6-7 but ina different, better style. Some people never learn from the previous bitter experiences, Blake is one of them :smash:

Exactly! I'm going to call him Obama for the rest of his career just to make myself feel better. I'll take extra special joy in each of his losses and the fact that he'll retire with 0 slams, 0 MS and 0 TMC titles. He'll probably squeak out 2-3 more mickey mouse titles.

Pathetic performance by Blake. He gave first service games in the first and second set to Tsonga as a gift by making unforced errors and double faults and then held easily, but unable to break Tsonga serve. And tiebreak was horrible, hitting second serve returns into the net..

Why do you always go on and on about results? Do you feel special that you've ingeniusly picked a guy who has won everything in sight for the last 5 years? Does it make you feel skilful, like you've won them yourself as well? All it means is that you have no taste or personality at all and just picked the player whose won the most :retard:

Blake didn't play too well, lots of silly errors and struggled to really overpower Tsonga until the third set where tsonga's level dropped as did his serve. Tsonga seemed relaxed and calm throughout, although sometimes a bit sloppy. Blake never managed to apply any real pressure on Tsonga making numerous errors when he had his chances.

Still, happy that Tsonga made it through :)

Tsonga's game doesn't really suit Blake, Tsonga has the edge on Blake on most parts of the game. Blake still should of won the 3rd set when he served for it and then played a poor TB. Don't know if he'll beat a QF in a Slam.

Perhaps but contrary to last year,he now knows he can win titles(and even big titles: see his MS win in Paris last year) and regularly beat the top players so his confidence is probably higher than last year.
Also,he has much more experience now when it comes to big matches against top players.
You are saying that he is not playing as well as last year but remember that until 1/4 final,he wasn't really playing great tennis neither last year: it was only from his match against Youzhny that he began to play awesome tennis.
The thing with Tsonga(as he has proved it numerous times last year) is that his level of play always seems to dramaticly improve in the later stages of the big tournaments comparing to his level of play in the first rounds.
The real and only unknown about Jo is his back injury.

Tsonga's FH overpowered Blake's FH. That's how he lost.

???

He lost because he donated service games at the beginning of the first two sets and then was useless in return games refusing to back up at all despite facing huge serves. Total joke match from Blake and typical braindead strategy.

In his interview Blake said it was useless to try to block Tsonga's serves back because then he'd have you running as if that is a worse option than not even getting the ball in play at all.

Hey All,

It would seem that the writer of the below piece from the AO site disagrees with many of you. This person thought it was an exciting and decent match. There are few things worse than for one to point out all the negatives but never mention the positives. It's like evidence presented in the courtroom. The prosecutor wants to introduce all of the negative and damning evidence - but will actually dismiss and not enter the exculpatory evidence. Tsk-tsk.

I taped it - and will watch it when I get home. I did watch the last few games of the last set and tiebreak this morning as I was getting ready for work. You know how we tennis fans do. LOL!

Anyway, from the stats - it was not an error filled match. Are you kidding me? It would seem the haters and bashers on this board could care less about checking out the stats - indeed.

One thing about this board though is that it has its fair share of equal opportunity bashers. Some hate this one and that one - and etc. Of course in my opinion, those are the ones that aren't true tennis fans. It's fine to comment on what a player did wrong - but to hate on them relentlessly is stupid. They are the ones out there trying.

And they are making big bucks for their efforts - too. So who really are the big losers here as it relates to how much money we are raking in out here? Tennis is just a game - and not a surgical procedure that saves lives.

Some of us just find the fun in tennis. We love to watch matches - because we know someone has to win and someone has to lose - period. And a duh! It is almost like many on the tour are our friends and/or relatives. We just love to see them do their jobs - and we respect them for it. We'd miss most when they hang up their sneakers.

James should have played T-Songa like he did Igor.

Good on T-Songa for pulling it out - and for being in the draw after it looked as if he would miss out because of his back.

Not a blockbuster match, but somewhat entertaining. Blake wasn't serving or returning very well, which screwed the little chances he had. There were some good rallies with crazy shotmaking from both.
