djokovic might still hold something against roddick after that "joke" he pulled on him at USO. That might give him some extra focus I guess.

Djokovic's level isn't what it was last season.

Roddick appears refreshed but has yet to play anybody that can really challenge him.

I hope it's Roddick, but I think it'll Djokovic in 4.

Roddick will smoke the Djoker in 4.

01-25-2009, 09:17 PM
roddick will exploit nole's weaknesses much more than baghdatis and unmask the defending champion's lack of form these days.

i'm saying roddick in 4. given my track record recently (i predicted haas would take out nadal for example) i'm fairly sure you can bet on nole in 3 then.

Bernard Black
01-26-2009, 02:30 PM
Roddick's serve will make this close but I can't see him having much success in the baseline exchanges, so for that reason, I think Djokovic will win in four sets.

Roddick has a shot if he gambles and plays aggressively. 70%+ first serves in wouldn't be a bad thing for him either.

A nice article about A-Rod and his coach, Larry Stefanki
http://tennisworld.typepad.com/string_theory/2009/01/squares.html

and an excerpt

What does Stefanki think of Novak Djokovic, Roddick's quarterfinal opponent on Tuesday afternoon? He's a fierce competitor and incredible mover with a backhand that is more solid and reliable than his dangerous forehand.

"[Roddick] needs to come to the net 45, 50 times," Stefanki said. "[Djokovic], he's a little more agile than Andy from the backcourt--I call him Gumby. That's good in tennis, that flexibility. He digs out a lot of balls back there."

Though Djokovic's movement is an asset, Stefanki also sees it as an injury risk, unless Djokovic improves his "body control."

"I've been around a long time," Stefanki said. "That power sliding, rolling your ankles, it's great when you're 21, but it's brutal on your joints."

I'm still waiting for Djokovic to REALLY up his level. He's been good, getting better against Baghdatis, but he'll need to step it up even further here.

Novak in 4.

Let it be known that if Djokovic is to win in this match and end up taking the AO Open, unless he beats Verdasco in the finals, this will be yet another tainted championship of his due to the easy draws and not beating the best.

Novak should win this in 4. However, if he does a good job returning Roddick's serve, it could be a straight sets victory because Novak is a lot more consistent than Roddick during the rallies.

Roddick in 4. Just have a gut feeling that Andy is really focused for this one and Nole isn't playing all that great.

LleytonMonfils
01-26-2009, 11:33 PM
People forget the US Open should've gone 5 sets. Now what Roddick did on that service game when he was serving out the 4th set that would be defined as a choke. I think Andy looks much better than he did at the Open and while Novak is a great player I haven't seen the kind of tennis this year that makes me to believe he's unbeatable.

It's all going to come down to how well Roddick serves and well Djokovic returns.

I'd say roddick. The Joker was really poor against baghdatis and roddick has been improving quietly (albeit little bit). Joker might be shocked to find how much roddick has improved at the net. Roddick in 4.
