AO R3:(6) Gilles Simon defeated Mario Ancic 7-6(2) 6-4 6-2Fedexex 01-24-2009, 03:22 AM welldone Simon:woohoo::banana: Ancic:hug: Arkulari 01-24-2009, 03:23 AM babyface chokes again  AlexNYR 01-24-2009, 03:25 AM is it me or has simon's forehand improved this year? philosophicalarf 01-24-2009, 03:27 AM Too many errors from Simon in the first/second sets, rather uncharacteristic. However, the key thing was he played the big points well despite this, especially that first set tie break where he went straight to a 6-0 lead, and saving 10 of 12 break points. In the third set Simon was simply glorious. Masterclass of variety and precision flat hitting. If he meets Nadal playing like that, he'll win easily. finishingmove 01-24-2009, 03:28 AM if simon was the real deal last year, he's the real real deal now. Lee 01-24-2009, 03:30 AM is it me or has simon's forehand improved this year? IMO, every aspects of Simon's game has improved. MsTree 01-24-2009, 03:33 AM Only 2 threads? His movement was great, in the part of the match I saw anyway (slept in ) Looking forward to his next match against Gael :) petar_pan 01-24-2009, 03:34 AM Too many errors from Simon in the first/second sets, rather uncharacteristic. Every single net cord went against him. But allez petit Gillou! :bounce: philosophicalarf 01-24-2009, 03:42 AM i donn't know which game did you watch but: 1. in tie break ancic didn't any first serve Yes, but 6-0 tells its own story. 2.ancic had more errors than simon As he always would, given a more aggressive game. However, Simon still dumped far too many into the net, by his standards. In 4 sets against Guccione he made 15 errors, here it was mid 30s in three sets. 3.simon should loose 3rd set easily Huh? You meant first surely? The 3rd was a total walkover. Tutu 01-24-2009, 03:44 AM Played Gilles, never in doubt. :worship: He played well within himself and only went for it at certain times in the match but all in all another nice match and can you believe that this is his best GS showing ever? Gael up next, will be interesting but I just think that Gilles is waaay too smart for Gael. Cricketics 01-24-2009, 03:51 AM it's about time Giles bow out of Australian Open. The only thing which is keeping him alive in this Australian Open is his newly grown beard which he isn't shaving off. once he does and starts looking like a teenager, he won't continue to survive more then 2 rounds MsTree 01-24-2009, 03:53 AM it's about time Giles bow out of Australian Open. Stick to cricket m8 :retard: Cricketics 01-24-2009, 03:55 AM So crap you had to say it twice? Stick to cricket m8 :retard: i never meant to be rude.. just wrote it but don't be offended. Giles is one of my fav player too.. i was just playing around you know and regarding posting it twice, well there were 2 threads on same topic, and i thought why not post in other one too. again don't be offended. and btw, HI.. nice to meet you.. :):wavey: MsTree 01-24-2009, 03:57 AM The two threads will be merged at some point when a mod notices :) Doggy 01-24-2009, 04:11 AM I love Simon. I would totally do him. Sebby 01-24-2009, 04:43 AM Simon is the real deal. Rumour 01-24-2009, 05:11 AM Ancic :tears: if simon was the real deal last year, he's the real real deal now. IMO, every aspects of Simon's game has improved. Simon is the real deal. Only way he convinces me is if he's still in the top ten at the end of the year. Otherwise his fans should enjoy his success while it lasts but not necessarily presume it is long term - something his opponent today knows all too well... Tommy fan 01-24-2009, 05:13 AM allez ;) kutafon 01-24-2009, 06:36 AM magnifique Bilbo 01-24-2009, 07:22 AM what a player this simon. his returns are upper class. Deivid23 01-24-2009, 07:45 AM Lucky one Gilles Chileno 01-24-2009, 08:44 AM Go Gilles!! Any player born the same day and year as me shall have my support. gambit84 01-24-2009, 10:01 AM I'm really surprised of the ability of Gillu to return almost everytime great serves also Hes game is increasing yet, the only problem is he really has problems during derbies, probably for former equilibriums when they were children and Monfils is playing so good as well, is trying to become more offensive, that was the key to improve his game and results Simon should be able to use sharp angles with hot shots dtl after, hitting when Monfils will be in the wrong part of the court because of his run before to hit the sharp cross Deivid23 01-24-2009, 10:51 AM That was a frustrating match for Mario, he served against the wind in the first 6 points of the tie-breaker, in every chance he got to break he either missed easy shots, got a netcord against or Simon came up with the goods and after he got broken at 2-2 in the third he just gave up. At this point, if you scratch the tie-breaker they had won the same amount of points yet he was down 2 sets and a break. He definetely didn´t deserve to lose in straight sets. gmak 01-24-2009, 11:22 AM gilles :worship: :D :) never in doubt ;) PinkFeatherBoa 01-24-2009, 12:40 PM Mario. :( Well done to Gilles, hope he continues to progress. petar_pan 01-24-2009, 01:41 PM ancic had 6 break points in first two games on simon's serve in 3rd but didnt convert any of them(he had good chances of some on them) while simon had zero in first 2 games on ancic serve.after ancic didn't convert break chances everybody(because tennis is tennis) knows that he will loss his serve(0:2 in sets and that unconvert break balls,so player blow up).simon had 2 break balls in 3rd set and convert both of them. somebody said that simon never in doubt.i just can says:LOL. petar_pan 01-24-2009, 01:46 PM ancic just need to keep his nerves, his tennis is good and it will be like it was.he need to not miss break balls and 1st serves in crucial moments. Jōris 01-24-2009, 01:46 PM Simon showed a more offensive game than I thought he had. Montego 01-24-2009, 02:05 PM I was surprised to see the attacking Simon. I always thought of him as a pusher, but this is the first match of him I saw since about a year (unfortunately I missed the end of 2008, but of course I know the scores) and he was hitting some nice finishing forehands and especially backhands. I still think he doesn't belong to the very top (Top20 for sure, but Top10 ?) and his fans should be happy as long as it lasts. The match was closer than the scoreline suggests and Simon was just 100% effective on important points. GlennMirnyi 01-24-2009, 03:12 PM Ancic once was a good player... oranges 01-24-2009, 03:19 PM Ancic once was a good player... It's liking riding a bike, give it time, he'll be back to his self come Wimbledon sammy01 01-24-2009, 04:22 PM well done simon, i love that he continues to prove the doubters wrong, some good play, other patches not so good, but even with bad patches thrown in hes still good enough for a straight sets win over ancic. good look next round the thought of sexy simon in the qtrs is  sawan66278 01-24-2009, 04:46 PM I'm telling you: Simon is a dark horse for the finals...and has a REAL shot to win this. Mark my words. GlennMirnyi 01-24-2009, 05:38 PM It's liking riding a bike, give it time, he'll be back to his self come Wimbledon Right. Losing to Simon is definitely a sign of better form. NOT. MalwareDie 01-24-2009, 06:40 PM I'm telling you: Simon is a dark horse for the finals...and has a REAL shot to win this. Mark my words. Simon has absolutely no chance of winning. Certinfy 01-24-2009, 06:45 PM Very impressed with the score tbh... Still can't get over it :) Tutu 01-24-2009, 09:06 PM I was surprised to see the attacking Simon. He was playing easily top 10 and 5 tennis at the end of 08, and as been much more aggresive than what he was yesterday. oranges 01-24-2009, 11:57 PM Right. Losing to Simon is definitely a sign of better form. NOT. Hilarious, in all aspects | |
