Nalbandian doesn't deserve to win if he doesn't want to fully commit himself to the sport. He had plenty of opportunities but his shoddy footwork had a hand in his 60+ ue.

Saw the last few sets and Nalbandian was really bad. If he put any pace on the shot, it was out. If he tried an angle, it was out. Poor performance. I'm not happy to see him go out so early.

One of the Finnish tennis journalists booked Nalbandian to win . He should know better than that.

Pretty much anyone in the 2R would have defeated this Nalbandian. Lu played good tennis for his standards, but Nalbandian is infinitely the better player and self-destructed. He really should not be having any trouble with someone like Lu and his game  But he managed to string together quite some nice UEs.

Fat Dave back in typical slam tourny form, often looking lethargic on court  All credit to Lu though, he could actually have won this match sooner if it wasn't for inexperience and/or nerves - especially in that last long game - but he eventually managed to prevail :yeah: To think I was actually starting to think Nalby could make a deep title push this AO, and I'm not even one of his deluded fans...

I'm happy for Lu, who did play a good match by his standards, but this unfortunately means that Robredo will reach 4th round, as I don't see Lu beating him. Nalbandian would have a good chance even at this poor form.

Can anyone please tell whether nalby played the worst match of his life or Lu played the best of his?
This is just pathetic, I am just pissed off!

I wouldn't call this an atrocious performance by Dave at all, just below average. He was good occasionally but treaded the line between mediocrity and pure badness most of the time. Credit goes to Lu who played on a very high, consistent level.

This not WTA tennis, after all. A subpar performance by a top seed puts them in real danger against most players. Not everyone can play against Brydon Klein in the 2nd round (yes, I'm saying Wawrinka would have lost to both these guys today).

Lu was the one who was forcing the match to go on in his terms. He hit the ball very deep and pounced on oppourtunities as they presented themselves. After the third set, it looked like Nalbandian would be able to get a win here due to his veteran composure as he was never clearly the better player of the match for any prolonged stretch of time but managed to snatch two breaks at the end of both 2nd and 3rd sets. This is, what, the 11th subsequent disappointment in a slam? The guy has gone from a GS threat to Mickey Mouse king.

For long-time Nalbandian followers, this match reminds me of the RG'05 Hanescu encounter. A journeyman guy plays a consistently good five-setter and wins eventually.

Oh Gasquet's pretty good at it!:sad::sad:
Poor Nalby, I thought he would do really well in this slam. I saw a little of the match and he just seemed to get more and more frustrated, some players pull it out of the hat when they get angry and others just lose focus because of their anger. I think he does care, I don't think it's a case of nonchalence, but I don't really know what the problem is and I doubt he does either.
As somebody said, he will probably be one of the most talented players to never win a slam

Pathetic display from Nalbandian. This was his worse performance since USO. Nothing worked for him today, not a service, not a FH, not a BH, not an angles, not a DPs, no footwork, he just could not stay in the rallies longer than 3-4 shots. It was simply Lu's inexperience at big stage not to wrap this one in straights. He did played ok, but nothing exceptional from his side, Nalby was pretty much awful in all 5 sets. Robredo is going to smash Lu in 3rd round.

Clydey

Anyone with a clue knows that is true.

Yeah, Nalbandian is a real mental midget. I mean, he only came back from two sets down to beat Federer in the final of the Master's Cup, and a set down to beat him in the final of Madrid. Being inconsistent is not the same as being mentally weak. Robredo isn't fit to lick Nalby's boots, let alone lace them.

No Nalbandian was leading 2 sets-0, and Federer came back to two sets-all, then Nalbandian lead in the 5th set with two breaks if I remember, and Federer comes back.

In the end, Nalbandian won.

Btw Federer was not totally fit, because he had not played the previous weeks because of injury.

But Nalbandian played very well : he might have won this match in straight sets.

Lu celebrates like a frail doormouse who has stumbled upon a particularly large hunk of cheese, David 'Banner' Nalbandian (that won't catch on) looks like he's stumbled into an all-you-can-eat buffet only to find that the only thing on the menu is brussel sprouts.

This draw has opened up to Roddick just like Mandy Moore's legs.

You know, I want to like Nalbandian. But he obviously doesn't care too much about his tennis career so why should we. Awful result.

F.U. Dave! Absolute pathetic performance. I was yelling at my TV last night watching this crap. Get your fat a$$ to the gym and the practice courts you mug! :shout:

:worship: to Lu for keeping your head together.

I watched all 4 hours of it at Hisense and it was painful sometimes but Lu played great.

Dave smashed:
- a racquet
- a fridge
- a barrier

Great fun. :haha:

While this may have been far from the highest quality match we'll see here, it's certainly been the most entertaining so far. There were so many twists and turns and highs and lows. Most importantly, there was an unexpectedly good performance from a relatively unknown player and an even more unexpected result. For Lu to gut this one out in five when he really should've won it in straights was very impressive. Nalby definitely helped him out quite a bit but impressive nonetheless.

Best match and result of the tournament so far for me. Great job Lu! Keep it up.

Sadly you are beginning to sound like richie21 always bringing up Nalby vs fed Madrid 07 like its the only match that matters.Just like richie brings up MC O5.I have nothing personal against it but I'am sure you are resourseful enough to get more eg. If I remember carefully fed played with an ankle support in that match for what its worth, that is YEC 05.

Always bringing up Madrid 07? I've maybe mentioned it twice since I've been on the forum. Way to exaggerate beyond all measure. I was using the example to demonstrate that Nalbandian is not a mental midget. He is merely inconsistent. No one who knows a thing about tennis could possibly think that Nalbandian is mentally weak. He simply isn't dedicated and, as a consequence, is inconsistent. You don't beat the best players in the world as regularly as fat Dave does if you're a mental midget.

What I am sure is that Tennis is not an important matter for Nalbandian. This is not an opinion, this is what Nalbandian always had said and demostrated through out his attitude towards training. I agree with you that he is not mentally weak, but as he enjoys other things in life, specially parties, women, cars, etc... more than trying to be #1 he never trained to much.

This is a pitty for his fans, as he coud have done extroardinary things such as wining some GS, being more than a top 10, maybe TOP 3 at least a couple of years.

The problem we (his fans) have he has is that he can live very good with the earnings he has...
