Peter Polansky (CAN) you da man!!! Now show us what you're made of!

Canada sucks, we never have good tennis players but this kid could be something else.

Currently up two sets in his match, he is on his way to beating Igor Andreev in his very first Australian Open Main Draw match...

Breakthrough for Canadian tennis or what? Only time will tell.

Is this where it all begins???

This is crazy. Can't believe Andreev is losing to this random guy I never heard of. You say he's a talented young prospect?

Good thing this thread isn't premature.

Not like Polansky would choke and drop the 3rd set or anything.

Peter's not a talented prospect, journeyman challenger at best.

Don't really know anything much about his game but, if I am thinking of the right guy, he was in the local sports news a while back when hospitalized after sleepwalking through a hotel glass sliding door and then (IIRC?) falling from the balcony that was a few floors up.

Yes, it is this sleepwalking guy.

Thanks, was pretty sure he was the one but have too many browser tabs open plus the TV and livestream going so didn't feel like confirming the exact identity and story details - the last bit in particular may be my own inaccurate over-dramatization of the sleepwalking incident :p

Considering that this was Peter's first ever GS match, just his second ever match against a top 25 player, and his first five set match, I think this is generally a good result from him, certainly more than I expected. I came in just hoping he would show well, and he did much more than that :yeah:

Very disappointing , but good in the long run, hopefully. :)

Hopefully once he gets over the defeat, he will take some confidence back to the challenger circuit and tear it up:rocker:

Is this the official Polansky-Andreev result thread?

Whoo! At least one Russian didn't lose today! Sadly didn't see any of the match, but winning from 2 sets down must give some confidence in one's abilities, even against such a low-ranked player, right? Maybe not, but congrats Igor!

btw, that sleepwalking story is a bit bizarre, but good luck to the kid

I must admit this thread made me chuckle.

Not that I don't feel sorry for Peter Polansky. He does seem a rather unfortunate individual. I often him my sympathies for at least three things specifically. A) Suffering a heart breaking loss to Igor Andreev after being up by two sets, B) Sleepwalking through a hotel window and C) Having to cope with having threadstarter Mistaflava as a fan.

Hang in there Peter, it can only get better.

TYPICAL CANADIAN CHOKING PIECE OF CRAP...what else is new, all we do is develop hockey players here and it's pathetic with the amount of immigrants that we cannot have good tennis or soccer players as well.

Good effort by Peter but typical Canadian outcome. Unreal.

Whatever, im not cutting Polansky any slack. If he was able to beat Andreev in the opening set there is no reason he couldn't do it at least one more time in the next three sets. JUST PATHETIC!

Do you not see what is happening to Federer right now??? I called it two years ago. I said if he keeps hanging around with that fat piece of garbage Mirka, he is going to fade in the tennis world and its happening as we speak. She probably makes him eat 6-7 times a day.

Polansky's game is more suited for clay, he could have a sneaky run here. Dancevic needs to get his act together in the next month for the grass/hardcourt season.

Yeah, Peter's game is suited for clay. Great performance here though considering his preparation wasn't exactly optimal. Very nice to see him in his first RG main draw.

"Polansky survived a major scare as an 18 year old. While in Mexico to play a Davis Cup series, he woke up sleepwalking and jumped or fell from a three-storey room suffering serious injuries. Later he said that he saw a dark figure approaching his bed wielding a knife and only thought about escaping through the window. He recovered miraculously and four months later was playing tennis." Just about to go to sleep and i read that, im gna get nightmares now :(

Doesn't look like Peter enjoys playing serve-volleyers, but really you'd have to give him an edge today on a surface that doesn't suit Petzschner's game. There aren't too many more favourable opponents he could have landed for a R1 match, so up to him to seize this opportunity.
