Q. Do you feel a little bit lucky to get out of that one?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Well, yes, but I think you have to work for luck. I think it's not just -- it doesn't just fall through the sky. I think I fight my way through in the match, really believed till the end, and mentally, this is a very important win for me.

If I remember correctly, I quoted this from a MTF user's reports.

Novak/Umpire - '07 Queen's

Umpire (to crowd)- "Sit down, players are ready for you."
Novak- "We're ready for them?!!!"
(to crowd)- "Yes, sit down we're ready for you."

THANKS for posting this. Too often we don't realize the tremendous pressure that Nole is under. What other ATP player has had to deal with 20 years of media demonization of his people and being bombed by NATO???

I was in AWE when Nole went down to Kosovo and played tennis with those poor Serbian kids and said -

I knew the haters would be relentlessly after Nole when he said that...

I know Nole doesn't like to talk about those times (who can blame him really) but it makes me want to scream when I read all the crap about his parents. Yes they are often over the top, but after everything he's been through, surviving bombings, having to live with very little money and all the pressure of the world on his shoulder, how can people begrudge him his need to be with the only people who've always been there for him.

My favourite Nole quote is this, I find it very cute (probably also because falcons are my favourite animals )
I love the end and trying to imagine what it can mean in Serbian exactly:
"It's one of my favorite animals, and I think it describes in some ways my personality, as well," he said. "I play a pretty aggressive game, and I'm very emotional, and I'm kind of connected to that bird. My grandfather used to call me always when I was younger, 'Falcon, falcon.' Doesn't make any sense in English but in our language it does."

What a great post :yeah: Agree with you 100%. Yes of course Nole's parents have their faults - so does everyone........ but the fact is, they are HIS parents, and if he wants to have them around, to spend time with them, and to listen to their advice, then surely that is his choice and decision, and should be respected  Their family bond seems very strong, and whatever some may say about Srdjan and Djana, they've bought up three sons who know the meaning of family, loyalty ahd respect, and I applaud that.

Sometimes it seems like some people who follow a personality (whether in sport or any any other field) seem to build them up into some fantasy figure that they want them to be, rather than being satisfied with the real (and sometimes fallible) person that they are. And the whingeing makes me want to scream too  Thanks for your post.

I'm always amazed how non Serbs know nothing about Serbs (us)/know way better than Serbs, as you like. First of all his parents deserved all written and not written craps about them. Luckilly media in Serbia talk about them and their tons of craps.
Two years ago Novak was one funny, full of spirit guy, today is half-ruined 22 years unhappy old man. He should get a grip asap (I'm sure he already did some important things in his head). Otherwise his way down would be fast as soko (falcon).

'having to live with very little money'! FYI, they lived their lives (at that time) we could only imagine. Wealthy lives.

'Falcon, falcon' (Sokole, sokole) is untranslatable but it's usually proud grandpa's vocative. We have many tradidional 'Sokole' songs. Some dating from 14 century.

Sure. But they were rich long before kids (rich in Serbian circumstances). And that's ok. Cavic could never been Cavic if he didn't get USA fellowship. If you could only know how many wasted tallents we have in individual sports particulary! I.E.Before University games we had only one proper athletic track (we have two now:)) Daughter of our OI silver canoer - Milan Janic is Hungarian now > Natasa Janic, multiple OI and world champ. Both her brothers are canoers and competed for Croatia since 2004.

I remember at that time (late eighties) Monica Seles's parents sold almost everything just to pay Bollettieri School.

Serbia is Belgrade, Novi Sad, EXIT but Serbia is Kursumlija, Surdulica, Dimitrovgrad too. Towns where people barely live having no money.

I mean what to say if I tell you that average salary in Serbia is about 400 eu. Not to mention huge crisis in '90-ies (+ warS, bombbing), transition, over a million people without a job (Serbia's population is about 8.5 millions)...

1993 I could buy 10 cheap cigarettes for my salary!

Hopefully you can understand why I'm boiling so often when...you know. Believe me, I'm literary sick and tired of 'knowing Serbs and Serbia' craps.

I was at a restaurant to meet a client. Nole was also there, but I didn't know it at the moment. My client had made a bet with me that I couldn't climb Mount Aconcagua without using oxygen. There was a huge sum going to charity riding on it. Well, I did it! :D (It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but, at the same time, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be.)
Quite naturally, after doing that, I was under the impression that I was the only person to ever climb a mountain. Also? No one had ever climbed a mountain as high as Mount Aconcagua. Am I right?...Am I??
So when I met with my client in Melbourne to see my big, fat check made out to my favorite charity instead of his, he brought a friend along with him. This friend had also climbed a mountain. One much higher than mine. :'( He had brought a photograph to show me how tall it was. So, with great enthusiasm and in a voice much louder that I realized, I said, "OMG! It's SO BIG!" Nole, who was walking past our table (and only heard me, not the conversation), said, "If only I had a Euro for every time I heard that." :D
Classic, right?
That's so Nole. :devil: :rolls::rolls:
