Not surprsinig scoreline for two big left-handed servers. The official website hasn't shown aces from this match and shows fake match-time but I guess both served more than 30 aces. Muller had first MP at 12:11 in the following game was 0-30 down but never faced a BP in the final set. He looks like a mental giant in 5-setters after this match and two at the US Open (Haas, Alamgro).

Why does Muller only play well in grand slams and disappear for the rest of the time?

What a boring ending, seeing Muller's reaction you could think it was a routine win.

Always happens to this guy.

He won first two marathon 5-setters (Economidis, Canas) but lost another three (Pim-Pim, Ljubicic, Muller).

 Congrats!

I don't think the match lasted so long. In the official scoreboard was written that second set lasted 116 minutes what is obviously senseless because players like Muller and Lopez can play against each other a set with normal tie-break approximately 60-70 minutes.

NBP, about Muller going far, he's only good for one match... or max two.

I've checked out the longest 5-setters in Australian Open history (the Open Era). It's the second longest 5-setter in amount of games. Here are short stats with the longest 5th sets in Melbourne (at least 26 games):

2003: QF - Andy Roddick d. Younes El Aynaoui 4-6 7-6 4-6 6-4 21-19
2009: 1R - Gilles Muller d. Feliciano Lopez 6-3 7-6 4-6 4-6 16-14
1988: 1R - Yannick Noah d. Roger Smith 6-7 5-7 6-4 6-2 16-14
2007: 1R - Lukas Dlouhy d. Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-3 6-1 6-7 6-7 16-14
1985: 1R - Brian Teacher d. Kelly Evernden 7-6 6-2 4-6 3-6 15-13
1991: 3R - Boris Becker d. Omar Camporese 7-6 7-6 0-6 4-6 14-12
1983: 3R - Roscoe Tanner d. Mike Bauer 7-6 3-6 4-6 6-3 14-12
1985: 1R - Mike De Palmer d. John Fitzgerald 7-5 6-4 4-6 5-7 14-12

5:34 would have been the longest match in terms of length, I think

Becker - Camporese was around 5:10, right Voo?

Exactly, they have still the record in terms of length at 5 hours 12 minutes.

How it could be too many errors, when it was mostly service winners, though LaLo pulled some very good volleys.

I suspected Muller would come through in this one, but I don't think it's fair to criticise Lopez's big match credentials. He took out Baghdatis 8-6 in Wimbledon '08, brought a winning mentality to a very daunting Davis Cup final, and beat Canas in a five-setter in 2004 when the Argentinian was virtually unbeatable in marathon matches. Just a case of someone haveing to lose decided this one, seemingly.

if you want my opinion, that's kind of the Luxembourgish mentality. most of us seem very cool and relaxed to the outside, hardly ever show emotions. Strangers often tell me that  I'm not saying everyone is like that, but I hope you get what I mean

Wow Gilles, what a marathon! :bigclap:

indeed! I'm lucky I only followed the livescores for the first 2 sets, then went to sleep. if I had watched the whole thing, I would have died lol

It was obvious to anyone awwake at the time that the match wasn't 5 and a half hours long. ESPN are just a bit slow on the uptake.

I was expecting such a reaction from either him or Lopez so it was a little bit dissapointing, but I understand it :)

According to ESPN they were on the courts shortly before noon Aussie time and finished well after 5. I was watching this match live for the last half set or so.

DelPo first has to beat F. Mayer. I know many people would view this as a formality, but I am not quite sure.

Good job, Muller! :yeah:

I got to see the end of this - kinda boring. They looked like they were dragging themselves around the court. It probably would have been more exciting if I had seen the whole match!

The match time has been fixed up - lasted 4 hours 22 minutes. That "116 minutes" set lasted as I expected 61 minutes.

The change is reasonable but some matches ain't fixed up yet. Malisse still won 7-6(8) against Llodra in 5 minutes (), Tipsarevic's lost set to Hernandez is changed from 120 minutes to just 3 :retard: In the first version of match-time, Tipsy won in more than 8 hours... ehhh

There was a discussion here about this. I'm not sure but this match is likely a record:

Roland Garros 1992: Woodbridge def. Kulti 0-6 6-2 2-6 6-4 6-1 -> 2 hours 3 minutes
